The SSS Beast King: Rebirth of the Legendary Predator -
Chapter 38: Flames Of Rebirth
Chapter 38: Flames Of Rebirth
What did pay mean? What was the payment for someone’s life? Did it vary with the person who was revived? My first thought was another soul, but would Dusk really take the life of another to get me back? We weren’t that close, so I doubt he would go that far.
So, if it wasn’t a soul, what else could it be? Money, was it a special item? It made sense, maybe it was an item he got from killing that giant.
But am I sure he even succeeded in defeating that beast after my sacrifice? As much as I’m confident in his ability, there is no way for me to be sure.
So if it wasn’t a soul, and probably not an item, what could it be?
As endless possibilities came to mind, from the corner of my eyes, I noticed something in the abyss that normally shouldn’t exist.
I turned my head rapidly and faced the glowing eyes, their orange color reminding me of a great fire. Who did they belong to? Were they part of my imagination, or really did exist?
Were they the ones who had paid for my death? Were they the voices that I heard whenever I talked to myself? And why was it here? The abyss shouldn’t hold to being together it has never happened.
Or maybe it had, and none have stayed alive to document them? Was I about to die? Was this whole thing just my brain trying to give me some last hope, trying to prolong its existence in this cursed world?
Sweat ran down my face, falling into the deep pool of water covering the ground of the abyss. This felt too real to be my imagination. Impulsively, I moved toward them, but I stopped, also thinking about the possibility of them being a trap.
They felt... familiar as if I had seen them before. I felt touched by nostalgia, yet I couldn’t find it springing from it. Well, there was only one thing where it could come from, but how would that make any sense?
Just how in the world were these eyes connected to my past!
[All preparations are done, you will be sent back into The Core.]
Shit, just when I wanted to stay a little longer in this place... ’Copy’
...
I found myself in the middle of a genocide, left and right, I heard the screams of innocent people. How did this happen? This had turned out to be much worse than I ever predicted.
It felt unreal, like I crawled out of my own grave. Feeling the wind blow against my body and being able to smell again, I had forgotten all of these feelings. I was glad!
The sound of bones cracking made me shiver, making me think of the moment I died just some time ago. I had just arrived back and was already about to die again. ’Let’s see’
Skills- [Kings Authority], [Pawn Of Adaptability]- copied ability [Undying flames]
So they were real, and they belonged to a beast. Just what kind of beast can manipulate the abyss, what beast is able to pay the price for someone’s death?
[Undying flames]-A long time ago, humans were praying for many animals, not putting up much of a fight. That all changed when one lit up a flame in his comrades. And with this newfound fire burning deep inside, they topped the food chain. This skill allows the user to manipulate the very fire of hope. The bigger the fire burning inside you, fueled by desire and longing, the stronger you are.]
I felt like my core was bursting out of my body, as if I was one with the world, as fire erupted from my stomach, I felt enveloped by a warm sensation through my whole body. It felt amazing and even better after being trapped in that place for so long.
The flames were bright red and wrapped themselves around my body like a snake. My heart was beating faster than ever before like it accelerated just to keep up. I felt a burning sensation inside my core, the point where the fires originated.
Was this my hope? My spirit? The core where all my emotions resided? Were these flames fueled solely by yearning?
It felt amazing, like I had truly been reborn... for the second time now.
With my core still full of fuel, I used more than I should have. My flames spiraled out of control, turning the battlefield into an inferno. I tried to stop, but I was too exhilarated by the warmth to hold back. It felt like I was losing myself in the fire.
Made me wonder if I was still inside the abyss and if this was just a way to make me let go of myself, forcefully ripping my soul from my body.
I concentrated, pilling up all the flames into one place, then dragging them back from where they crawled as the skill ended.
I took deep breaths, trying to fight the sudden fatigue that had come after the skill disappeared. So, I wasn’t paying attention to the system screaming in my ears.
[You have slain a bishop class beast, Giant.]
[You have slain a bishop class beast, Giant.]
[You have slain a bishop class beast, Giant.]
[You have slain a bishop class beast, Giant.]...
Bishop only? Pretty disappointing that I died to a beast of such a low class.
I looked around me, the burned bodies of the giants and the remaining bones of the humans created an eerie atmosphere, one where neither humanity nor the memory beast had won.
[One of your passives has evolved.]
Oh, interesting, though it would have still prepared for it to have been a skill evolution instead of a passive. My passives aren’t that great either way, maybe if I gained a new one-
[You have gained a new passive!]
This... was unexpected. Gaining a passive, and coming from all those beasts, it had to be at least mediocre. But no time to waste.
’Let’s look at our new toys.’
