The Skeleton Magician’s Play Diary -
Vol. 1 - Ch. 7 - Alchemy
Well, now I'm back, in the lab. I can finally get my hands on [Alchemy]. Well, it's been a long time. In real life, I'd be a day behind, but here, I'm four days behind. I guess I'm the lowest level among the players who first chose the [Alchemy] ability skill. It makes me sad to think so.
Other people are other people, and I am me. Let's just accept that there were circumstances that could not be helped. So let's smelt!
Let's start with the easiest way to make a potion using Yalu grass. First, I have to grind the Yalu weed carefully until it becomes a paste. Add water to it little by little and stretch it slowly.
The way to make it in [Formulation] is to distill it when it is not too active and cool it slowly at room temperature. In the case of alchemy, however, the process is different. The process of making the paste is the same. However, in alchemy, the medicinal and other ingredients are extracted using magic and then mixed with water to refine the recovery potion. This is how a recovery potion is made.
Elementary recovery medicine Quality: Acceptable
Rarity: C Normal grade
The least effective healing potion. Heals 10% of your strength over one minute.
It works when you drink it or apply it on your body.
If used by the immortal undead race, it will cause damage. Please be careful.
Smelting scrap Quality: Scrap
Rarity: C Normal grade
This is the remains after the process.
There is no specific use for it, but it would be a good fertilizer for the fields.
Easily completed. Wow, I am a fast learner. I kept it in a small bottle, which I found from the countless empty bottles in the lab.
This recovery potion looks the same as the one given out with the initial equipment. But the initial potion was made from blending, which is much more powerful.
There are advantages and disadvantages to both "blending" and "alchemy." First of all, the former can maximize the power of materials if you work patiently and carefully. However, the procedure is complicated, and the product's quality can vary greatly with the slightest mistake. It seems to require real dexterity and concentration.
On the other hand, the advantage of potion from alchemy is the simplicity of the procedure. The only disadvantage is that it is not as good as the products of those who have mastered the art of blending. Right now, looking at my level, I don't think I can pull off a master blending potion.
Then there is [Compounding], which may allow me to make high-quality, high-performance potions. As a contrast, there is [Alchemy], which allows me to make mass-produced products easily.
In addition, some potions can only be made with the advanced ability skill of [Compounding], and some skills can only be done with [Alchemy]. There is a proper distinction between the two.
Another alchemy scrap is the herb residue. And I don't think I'll ever have a farm.
' So let's resume the work, hoping that I can improve the quality a little. Let's use up all the Yalu grass I have on hand.'
The [Pharmacy] level has been increased.
The [Alchemy] level has increased.
Yes, I just kept on extracting. My Pharmacy and Alchemy levels are both up to 3.
Thankfully, I was able to get one of the "good" quality Yalu grass. So, the amount of recovery is only 12% instead of 10%, but it's not that high.
So far, it's just a matter of gaining experience for me. Because, as the description said, the recovery potion doesn't bring me much benefit. But, I have risen to these three levels, which are meaningful for me.
"From here on, it's poison."
I can mix dollar grass and mapi grass at 3rd level. And if I go up to the 5th level, I'll be able to use the rat's front teeth, which are in abundance. Let's get into the swing of things.
So according to the book, I need to make the dollar grass into a paste just like the Yalu grass. The key here is to grind it without adding water.
Next was the Yalu weed, which was more effective when dried. However, there is currently no way to dry it, so as a last-ditch effort, I used the fireball from the [Fire Magic] to roast it from a distance. It was quite nerve-wracking, as I had to be very careful not to set it on fire.
When dried, it became so brittle that it would fall apart with the slightest pressure. I grind it further into a fine, smooth powder. After adding it to the dollar grass paste, I mixed it thoroughly to be evenly distributed.
This is all the preparation for the alchemy. Now all that remains is to extract it. Put it in an empty bottle, and I am done.
Weak Poison Quality: Acceptable
Rarity: C Normal Grade
A poison with weak toxicity. It is commonly used on daggers and arrows.
1% damage every 10 seconds for one minute.
In rare cases, it can cause 10 seconds of paralysis.
Smelting scrap Quality: Scrap
Rarity: C Normal grade
This is the remains after the process of alchemy. There are almost no poisonous ingredients left.
There is no specific use for it, but it would be a good fertilizer for the fields.
Hmm, Is it possible to use it in a boss battle or something? In a normal battle, I'll just have to pray for it to paralyze me. As it is, it's just a poisonous purple liquid that I can't use for now.
I'll keep making the poison potions. The only reason I'm in such a hurry is so that I can use the rat's front teeth! Let's aim for level five!
The [Magic Control] level has been increased.
The [Fire Magic] level has been increased.
The [Pharmacy] level has been increased.
The [Alchemy] level has increased.
Newly learned Drying and Synthesis spells.
Yes, I'm at level 5. I got it.
I was struggling to do it until just now... I worked so hard that my [Magic power control] and [Fire magic] levels went up.... I'll think of it as a good experience and forget about it, yeah.
And synthesis. The art of fusing identical items to improve their quality. Interesting.
The most rotten things I have are rats' front teeth and skins. The next best thing is magic stones, I guess. It's possible to synthesize them to increase their quality. It would also be a good idea to synthesize medicinal herbs and poisonous herbs and healing potions, and poisonous potions---the more things I can do, the more things I want to do.
"Wuhhh, hahhh"
That's a happy scream.
Now that I am at level 5, let's start making the poison potion using the rat's front teeth as originally planned.
First, I dry and grind down the rat's front teeth. Oh, drying [Alchemy] is so easy. And it's fast and very convenient. It's also brittle like Mapi grass, so it's fast until it becomes smooth. Once it's powdered, the process of using the front teeth is over.
The next step was to use a weak poison made from dollar grass and Mapi grass. The powdered front teeth were added to this and mixed thoroughly. Then, the color became stronger and turned into a dark purple. After extracting the unnecessary ingredients, it was complete.
Poison Quality: Inferior
Rarity: R Rare
A poison made from a combination of various toxins. It is commonly used on daggers and arrows.
2% slip damage over 10 seconds and lasts for 1 minute.
High probability of paralysis for 5 seconds.
The amount of damage from bleeding increases.
If taken all at once, each effect is tripled.
Thank god, it's a very useful poison, especially if your opponent is not resistant to it.
Is the effect of a rat's front teeth a bonus to bleeding damage? Rats can indeed carry diseases, and if they bite you, they can decay and give tetanus. I think they put that into bleeding in terms of the game?
I wonder what this warning is about. Triple the effect smells like a broken performance, right? Poison does 6% damage or three minutes, paralysis 15 seconds, and increased bleeding is appealing. But there's no way I will make the opponent take all of it. Not only is this potion dark, but it also has a very pungent smell. I guess I should just use it as a weapon or a poisoned arrow. But I can't use a bow and arrow.
Now let's move on. Now let's try synthesis. The material I'll use is... rat skin. I have a lot of it, and I want to reduce it as much as possible.
To use synthesis, all I have to do is gather the materials in one place? That's easy. Let's start with two pieces...
"Composite. ...Huh?"
'Hmm? I think I failed? I thought I was following protocol...?'
At times like this, I should borrow the wisdom of our ancestors. Let's go back and read "Fundamentals of Alchemy." Again. I thought there was no mention of synthesis, but I may have skipped over it.
...there it was. I see the reason why the synthesis failed was that there weren't enough of the materials. So it's not possible to change them into something of higher quality.
I tried again and again for 6 times.
Oh, oh? Just as I thought the rat skin was glowing, it turned into a big piece of skin. Let's have a quick [Appraisal].
Rat's Great Skin Quality: Acceptable
Rarity: C Normal Grade
Large skin of a rat.
Because it is large, it has many uses, but it is not preferred as a material.
Has the item name changed and the quality improved? It looks like so. If you were to ask me if I could wear clothes made from rat skin, I would probably say no. I don't want to wear rat skin.
Let's try using the magic stone this time. It's not as much as the rat material, but I can always hunt slugs if I run out of it.
Magic stone Quality: Inferior
Rarity: C Normal grade
A stone produced within the body of a demon.
Absorbs and accumulates magic power in the surrounding area.
The absorption efficiency is proportional to the quality, and the maximum magic power is proportional to the rarity.
Oh, this one has improved in quality. It's a good change.
The [Magic Control] level has been increased.
The [Pharmacy] level has been increased.
The [Alchemy] level has increased.
Whoa, I am leveling up fast. I guess it's natural growth since I've been working hard. And here are the recovery potion and poison potion that I synthesized and completed.
In conclusion, the recovery potion is not worth the cost! Each item has been upgraded. It's now in.
The poison is... well, passable? Its performance may be evaluated differently by different people. I'm not sure if it will be my go-to when the need arises.
Wow, is it time already? I've been so focused on my work that I've lost track of time. No, no, no. I have to go to work early tomorrow, so I'll have to log out, finish my dinner and bath, and then go to bed. So I'll leave the lamp on as usual and log out on my chair in the room.
Well, good night.
