Vol. 1 - Ch. 3 - Titles and Weird Magic

The [Light Attribute Vulnerability] skill has been reduced.

 I hurriedly logged out, and Right after that, I got a call from my boss at work.

Well, it's okay, it was just a call to tell me that they're having a drinking party next week. I was panicking about whether I had to work on my day off,

 Leaving my real-life aside, just as I thought, the [light attribute vulnerability] has been reduced by one level, though. I did it.

 However, I don't think it will go any lower than now because the light is too weak to do any more damage. I should increase the intensity of light.

 I already know how to do that.

All I have to do is add a magic stone to the lamp. I'll use the one I got from the hunt earlier.

 " Whoa! That's pretty strong."

When I used the magic stone of the same quality and size, the light's intensity and damage became double.

My recovery is just barely enough to keep up. It is no good if I try without considering my vulnerability.

"Let's turn off the lamp for now,"

 I'll use the summoning technique instead.

"Return. And Summon, moving skeleton, defense boost."

 What I used in this summoning was [Granting Technique].

"If I do this, I can make a strong servant." That's what I thought.

 What appeared in front of me was a perfectly normal moving skeleton.

Now that there was an extra hunter, it would be easy for me.

I was impressed to see my summon did not leave any heavy damage. [Summoning Technique] and [Granting Technique] are a great combination. This time, the servant took almost no damage from Ratman's attacks. He's the best fighter I've ever seen! Well, besides from me.

 It fought so well even in the presence of the second servant, but I had no regrets. The Ratman was bound to be defeated even if there were three of them against us.

I'm sure I can now defeat four of them with ease.

 I continued hunting until I obtained two magic stones.

 Still, the rat skin and front teeth that I have accumulated so far has become a hindrance. I'm so poor that I can't even bring myself to throw them away in the hope that they might come in handy in the future. As of now, I don't know what to do with them.

 My hunts have somehow led me to the north end of the sewers. It was a dead-end, ten blocks from the base. I hadn't finished filling in the map since I just went straight ahead with no way out on the direct route.

From now on, I have to look carefully.

 'I'll go east next time.'

 'Okay, now for the fun part. It's time to read again. What should I read this time?'

 I've read through all the basic books except for the thick "Twelve Great Divine Sutras", which explains the world view and describes the doctrines of each god in detail.

'There's no way to learn anything new about alchemy for now....'

 '...Maybe it's time to reach for the books in the lab?'

Some parts were too difficult or unreadable. The language used in that book was too scientific to understand, but I think I will handle it now.

 There is a reason for this. It's only the first day, but I've found that this game has an excessive number of links with ability skills. At first, it was just [dark magic], but now that I've learned nine different kinds of magic, I think I met the requirements.

If not, at the very least, I will be able to improve my [linguistics] and [archeology] as I continue reading. I'm going to read it while taking care of my physical strength!

 My prediction was correct, and there was an increase in my [archeology] skill, the text I couldn't read as I started to slip in my mind.

It reminded me of a book in the lab, "An Introduction to Heretical Magic".

 As I kept reading the book, I was left awestruck.

"This is crazy."

 The techniques shown in this book are very powerful, but it seems that their use was rather too evil to be classified as 'forbidden magic'.

'I don't know how old this book is, but if people find out that I'm a demon who can use forbidden arts, I'm going to be targeted by many creatures of many races.'

I kept on reading the book.

 Anyway, now let's read more. The first thing I need to check is whether I'm able to use [dark magic] and [summoning magic] as well [linguistics].

 The 'effect' is the ability to use and enhance immortal systems and creation.

The last one, creation, seemed particularly interesting.

 It means that immortal living beings can be created by gathering materials. Unlike summoned beasts, immortal living beings are created with material that will not reduce their maximum magic power. Furthermore, we can enhance their abilities by modifying them even after their creation.

  They can also evolve by gaining experience through battle. But, if they get destroyed, they disappear just like ordinary demons, and their materials do not return.

 If I had the materials, I could create an army of immortal beings and will be able to command the mighty soldiers... Woah, my dreams are getting bigger.

But I couldn't help but wonder why they are known as immortal beings when they disappear after being destroyed.

 Anyway, next on the list of dark arts, there's [Jujutsu]. It is the opposite version of the [Granting Technique]. If the [Granting Technique] strengthens your allies, the [Jujutsu] weakens your enemies. I think the conditions for acquiring it are [dark magic], [Granting Technique], and [linguistics].

The process of activating the ability was similar to that of setting up a [magic circle] under certain conditions. Although it does not have the same applicability as a magic circle, it was difficult for anyone to notice that magic within the [Jujutsu].

 It is a useful skill to harass both players and other demons.

 Finally, the titles.

When I checked the status, I saw that the title column had increased.

 'Was this a hidden thing?'

A detailed explanation of titles is as follows.

The Seeker of Truth.

 The title was given to those who have learned a great proportion of magic.

 Reduces magic power consumption when using magic.

 Requirements: Must Possess ten kinds of magical ability skills.

"The one who earned the title."

 Just a sign of someone who has earned the title.

 Conditions: To earn the title.

"The Heretic."

 A title for those who dabble with evil.

 They will be feared and hated by all.

 '" The Seeker of Truth" is a winner.'

 The 'effect' is also amazing.

 It's like a reward for those who have collected a lot of magic.

 I don't know what "Heretic" is. It sounds like it means that NPCs will hate you more.

 I've read too much, and now I'm going to hunt. I'll continue to use the two summoned beasts until they are destroyed, and then I'll try to use the [Necromancy] next time.

In front of me is a moving skeleton that I summoned with [Summoning Technique]. Now let's try to strengthen it first.

"Undying enhanced undead boost."

 " You scared the hell out of me! Don't move so suddenly!" I scolded the summoned servant.

Even so, the enhancement of [Death Magic] is a nice effect. As soon as I applied it, a faint black aura started to form.

The [Stealthy foot] level has been increased.

The [surprise] level has been increased.

 The hunt was going well since I didn't take any damage at all. It was really easy.

 Well, I don't think it's going to be this easy forever. Even if I leave the vanguard to the servants, the AI seems to get loaded with only the bare minimum, so they can't make decisions on the spur of the moment.

 If that's the case, I should form a group, but I'm not in a position to recruit one. I'll think about it when I'm ready to go out and face other players of different races.

 It's not about the future, and it's about the growing [Dark Magic]. There are newly added skills, [Dark Lance] and [Dark Wave]. I'm already using both.

The [Dark Lance] is a powerful single attack, and the [Dark Wave] is a ranged attack. Both are more powerful than the initial [Dark Ball] but less fuel-efficient, so it's a good choice if I find the right target. The only problem was my magic power depleted quickly.

I hope other attributes will reach level 5 in the next hunt, and Let's hope for the best.

 Well, it's already this late for now. It's a Saturday and Sunday holiday, so it's fine to keep going, but I think I'll log out for today and get some sleep.

'Let's take a rest for a while.'

 I'll expose myself to the light of the lamp again this time.

 'Well, good night.'
