The Silent Pact of a Wolf Babysitter -
Chapter 89: We Love You, Ruben!
Chapter 89: We Love You, Ruben!
Master Raven mumbled, scratching his cheek with one finger.
"Also, th-thank you... for stopping the collision of those fourteen dreadful moons. I’m sure that was Tamayō’s handwork—if they had completed their course, maybe even Pison might have been wiped away. Worse still, heavenly beings would’ve descended, hunting us as culprits for the loss of entire star clusters!"
He paused and sighed.
Then, gently, he placed a hand on my head.
A simple gesture.
Though, one that earned me death glares from every direction.
"I really thought I’d end up responsible for some perverted ancient horror," he murmured. "But I was (almost) wrong. I can count on you, Levi."
...Warm.
So warm.
Warm, warm, warm!
Ahhhhh, I never want to stop feeling like this!
I want this for eternity. I love you, Master Raven!
He walked away.
Alicia immediately started nagging for her head to be rubbed too. He caved.
Well, I’m glad everything turned out well.
No one died. No planet was destroyed.
So let’s just put it all behind us. Mhmm.
*
Apparently, they’d been waiting for us to wake before eating. Now that we were up, Master Raven and his crew of culinary misfits brought out the food.
The crab’s crystalline armor had been cleaned and used as plates—bluish-green crystal shining beautifully under the moonlit sky.
Even the presentation made one’s soul yearn.
And the taste...
Not that I know what "delicious" should taste like—cooked food hasn’t graced my tongue in millennia.
But if Master Raven made it...
Then surely, it had to be peak.
Watching him serve food to his subjects like that... I found myself wondering again: Is this man truly Supreme Lord material?
"Pfft. Haha!"
I couldn’t hold back the laughter.
"H-How rude!"
Master Raven, for reasons known only to himself, assumed I was laughing at him and promptly declared I wouldn’t be getting seconds.
Now we can’t have that.
The crab meat—soft as clouded silk—melted between my teeth like it was crafted by the Creator.
Each bite carried a delicate sweetness.
The spices... I have no idea where he sourced them. From the forests? The hidden mountain groves? He wouldn’t say.
But they danced across my tongue in ways that reminded me I even had a tongue. Flavors rich, layered, and brilliant.
And the way he’d beam whenever we exclaimed, "Mhm. It’s good!"—how could I not want more?
A little humiliating though... having my future husband cook for me.
I must discipline myself. No more dreamy sighs.
I glanced up again.
There he was—Master Raven—rushing around with that ridiculous grin, balancing plates made of crab shell fragments in both hands.
That peachy apron still clung to him, making him look more like a cheerful maid than a transcendent being. Adorably so.
And I wondered... Did he once have friends of his own?
Did he once laugh like this in another time?
Or has he been lonely, like the rest of us—wandering in silence, playing guardian to worlds too fragile to understand him?
What did he used to do before setting foot on this cross-worldly path?
I want to know everything.
If he’s suffered—I want to flood his soul with joy until it overflows.
If he carries old wounds—I’ll cover them—bury them beneath new memories. Bright ones.
The kind he’d happily revisit again and again, centuries down the line.
Because...
I choose you, Ravenswood.
Because I...
Because—
"I love you, Master Raven."
I spoke with a voice calm and true, as he returned—still pouting and holding my stockpiled plate.
Then he froze.
They all froze in silence.
"H...Huh?!" he blurted, nearly fumbling the food. "What’re you yapping about all of a sudden—"
"I mean it," I said.
No edge. No doubt in my voice.
And in that moment, he knew I meant it.
"I love you. And I’d love to spend the rest of my life with you," I said gently. "All your burdens and crosses... I want to carry them with you. Let me be your shoulder, your helping hand—andyourbed—whenever you wish."
He fidgeted, clearly torn between awe, panic, and embarrassment.
"You... You don’t have to say anything now!" I added quickly. "We just met yesterday, and I attacked you like a wild beast... But... But I swear, I’ll make you see me. One day, you’ll love me too. I promise you that!"
Alicia literally didn’t take that lying down.
"What in the world, Levina?!" she screamed. "Trying to cut in line?!"
She turned to Master Raven with fiery eyes. "Ruby, I love you too! Even before that swamp monster!"
"E-Eh?!" he gasped, looking anywhere but at her—her robe had fallen off mid-confession.
She didn’t even flinch. "You might not understand why, but I love you with all my heart and soul... and body. And as your first wife—"
"Hey, that’s cheating!" I shouted.
"—I’ll make sure you recognize me!" she declared, full of pride.
Then Tamayō rose, her robe slipping too, and Master Raven’s face went from pink to crimson.
"M-My Lord..." she began, trembling. "I know this is presumptuous of me, but allow me to be bold! I, too, l-love you. And I wish to stand by your side as you dominate those plebeians—"
"I, too, my Liege, cherish you with my entirety," came a new voice.
Trigger.
Tamayō stopped mid-sentence, snarling with bloodlust.
Trigger had also assumed human form, dressed in a long black coat, his dark hair cascading past his shoulders. Unlike Tamayo and Shizuka, he was non-differentiable from a genuine human.
"From the moment I first drew breath in this world, I had become a tool to be used only by you, my Lord." He closed his golden eyes.
...That wasn’t exactly a...love confession.
But it still made Master Raven groan, hiding his face behind a crab shell plate, his shoulders trembling.
So cute! I want to hold him!
"I love you too, Master Ruben!" Jobina cheered, leaping onto him like a child desperate not to be left out.
"Well, I love y—"
Before Bladir could finish that sentence, every single Specter Wolf—including Shizuka—snapped their heads at him with Eldritch precision and conduct.
He clamped his mouth shut so hard, his teeth clicked.
"...Supreme Lord... Shizuka, like..." Shizuka breathed as she walked over, shyly gripping the hem of his cloak—her tail wagging elatedly.
Hachiman, now also in genuine human form—basically a clone of Shizuka without the chest—dropped to one knee with thunderous drama.
"I am your sword, my Lord," he declared with a youthful, reverent voice. The four-pointed icon in his eyes began to ooze dark element.
"Whatever threat comes your way shall be split—body, soul, and spirit. Just give me your nod, and societies, nations, and even dimensions shall fall—"
"Okay, that’s enough!!" Master Raven yelped, flailing his hands. "What is wrong with you guys?! W-was my cooking so good you all lost your minds?!"
"Yes. It was wonderful!" I chimed in proudly.
His eyes widened, and for just a breath, his whole face softened.
Then he quickly masked it with a puffed chest and a mock-haughty tone.
"Hmph. O-Of course it was!" he declared. "It’s me we’re talking about. A bona fide genius."
He turned halfway toward us, the blush on his cheeks glowing like sun-kissed coral, then faced fully away again, mumbling.
"...You can all do as you wish. It’s not like... I don’t also l-l-l-l-l-l-l-l-lo-lo-lo-lo-lo...!!"
And with that, he fled into the shadows of the igloo like a flustered legend.
After a few seconds of shared smiles and held-in giggles—
"So, Levina," Alicia suddenly said, arms crossed and lips twitching, "can you explain what possessed you and made you try to one-up me?"
And chaos resumed with gusto.
***
What the heck is wrong with those people?! Saying they l-l-l-love me! Have they no shame?!
Hmph.
Well, joke’s on them: I happen to love them all too! Not that I’ll ever say it out loud! Goodness...
(Well... Platform?)
{You called, Master.}
(D-Don’t you also have something to... s-say to me?)
{...Master is too naïv—}
Okay, the feast wound down, and the day mellowed into its usual brand of madness.
I dispelled the Specter Wolves, much to their overdramatic sulking.
Though they only used a sliver of magic, keeping them around without purpose was like leaving all the taps on in a rich man’s mansion. Wasteful.
But I can’t believe Trigger, Tamayō, and the rest turned humans just because they were jealous of the Phantom Fangs.
And how strong have Tamayō gotten when I wasn’t paying attention?!
After a round of nuzzles, whimpers, and glaringly guilt-laced side-eyes, they returned to the Shadow Realm, pouting every inch of the way.
Peace finally returned to Coastelle.
Alicia and Levina had fallen asleep inside the earth-formed igloo.
Which, I swear, was growing every minute. By now, it was a full house.
What’s left was a chimney. And curtains.
The two girls were fast asleep—together, in the single bed.
Except now, it was actually a real bed. Soft and plush.
Don’t ask me where they got it from—I’ll also like to know.
I lingered at the doorway for a moment longer, watching them cuddle, limbs tangled.
A picture of peace and beauty. A flower with two petals.
"These two do get along so well," I whispered, smiling softly.
Then—
"Ahn...! Ruby, I said... slowly."
Hm?
"Master Raven...yes. Yes. Over there—"
Okay, time to leave.
*
Outside—well, outside the house, now fully transformed from the makeshift igloo—I found Jobina seated on the grass.
Hmm, I sense déjà vu...
She said she couldn’t sleep because she was excited, or rather she doesn’t need much sleep as a god-man.
Platform had alerted me earlier, sometime between the ladies annihilating the mountain and the post-dinner chaos, that my new summons were ready.
I wanted to go check out the new batch at some faraway place.
Specifically, the heart of Coastelle; had been pulsing with a strange new rhythm—likely because of the women’s spiritual war earlier.
A ripple of power I could trace far, far north.
It had taken me half an hour earlier, but with [God Wolf Eye], I’d finally spotted it.
And let me tell you—if you thought Coastelle’s forests were massive, then brace yourself: there’s a sky above the sky.
The great forest I saw at the Pinnacle of the North wasn’t just big—it was an entire kingdom of green, so vast it pierced and licked the ocean sky.
Coastelle had a strange water cycle:
A large water fall drops from the northern sky, flows southward, and then—somehow—returns to the sky from the south again. A loop.
But most of that water doesn’t even touch the surface. It flows underground, through pulsing veins within the world.
And at the very crux of it all lies that great forest in the north.
The Heart.
So I wanted to check it out.
You know, Coastelle behaves like a living thing sometimes.
Maybe I could... Speak to it, or something.
I explained all this to Jobina—and she offered to come along.
It was going to be a long journey. A crazy long walk.
But the night was young.
And if Jobina was officially joining the crew, then yeah—I needed to get along with her. A bit.
So we walked. Quiet at first.
Then warm conversation filled the space between us.
I had thought she was a hopeless masochist, intrinsically...
But with what she told me—
