Chapter 170: Chapter 165: Calling Her Sister-in-law is Too Much of a Loss
Compared to Mu Shuoqian, Gu Qili’s tennis skills are as distant as the Yangtze River, but her mood was splendid, and to her surprise, Gu Qili won the game.
Of course, she knew it was entirely because Mu Shuoqian was letting her win.
No matter how domineering a man is outside, or how much he cares about winning and losing, in front of the woman he likes, winning or losing suddenly becomes less important.
She sat on the ground, tired like a dog, but still raised her head to smile at him, her white teeth as neat as seashells.
Mu Shuoqian walked over, crouched down, and handed her the water.
Gu Qili took a sip and, noticing the sweat on his forehead, took her handkerchief to wipe it for him.
The auntie who had been watching them play from not far away was earnestly learning Mu Shuoqian’s moves. Now, seeing the two of them so close and intimate, she couldn’t help but sigh to her fellow tennis player, "These young people are crazy, you know. That young man is her second uncle."
The fellow tennis player looked shocked and shook their head disapprovingly.
After the game, the two changed clothes and went out to eat. Leng Shaoqing called to say that Xiangshan Club had some new king crabs and specifically invited them to try it out. Gu Qili, who loved seafood, was immediately thrilled at the prospect of good food.
In Xiangshan Club’s private room reserved by Mu Shuoqian, Gu Qili was digging into her ice cream. She had always loved the ice cream from Xiangshan Club. Although she hadn’t eaten it in many years, the taste was the same. However, the price had doubled—a small bowl was enough for an ordinary person to eat for an entire year.
She found it delicious, but Mu Shuoqian did not feel the same, sitting beside her dealing with emails on his mobile phone, occasionally listening to her exclaim, "This tastes so good!"
He thought she was a person who could easily be satisfied—a bowl of ice cream could make her happy for a long time.
Every day, all he knew was work, work, and more work, losing many of the pleasures of life.
"I don’t like sweets," he said while replying to an email, the content of which seemed to have displeased him greatly, his handsome face clouded over.
"It’s really delicious." Gu Qili scooped a spoonful and brought it to his lips, saying that sweet things could improve one’s mood; she didn’t want to see him unhappy.
Mu Shuoqian stopped his action of sending emails, his gaze deep as he looked at her. Her face was full of anticipation, really wanting him to taste it.
Suddenly, he curved his lips slightly and said in a husky voice, "Actually, there’s a better way."
"Huh?" Gu Qili didn’t quite grasp the meaning behind his words,
Gu Qili blushed from his kisses, her heart pounding faster and faster. Was this the better way he mentioned?
Embarrassed and not knowing what to do, she had a spoonful of ice cream in hand and hurriedly stuffed it into her mouth to hide her awkwardness.
But he leaned in again, nibbling on her lips, her just-taken bite of ice cream largely ending up in his mouth. Even though she had eaten from it, he didn’t seem to mind; she felt it was unsanitary.
Leng Shaoqing walked into the room at precisely this moment to witness such a scene,
"Ahem." Leng Shaoqing covered his lips with his fist and coughed.
Mu Shuoqian acted as if he hadn’t heard, carrying on his way, while Gu Qili, seeing someone enter, immediately wanted to find a hole to crawl into, pushing him with a hand and whispering, "Your friend is here."
Although she didn’t have a strong memory of him, Gu Qili vaguely guessed him to be Leng Shaoqing, the owner of this club.
Mu Shuoqian, as if he hadn’t noticed the living person behind him, pointed at the half-eaten bowl of ice cream in front of Gu Qili, his tone full of anticipation, "Not eating anymore?"
How could Gu Qili dare to eat,
"Qili sis, if that’s not enough for you, I’ll get someone to bring two more servings," he said.
Ever since Nan Zhan called her "Qili sis," everyone in their circle had adopted this new nickname.
"Who’s your sis?" Mu Shuoqian sat up straight with a righteous look, as if the one who had been stealing ice cream from someone else’s mouth a moment ago was merely a bird of prey.
Leng Shaoqing nonchalantly sat down across from them, casually dangling a cigarette in his mouth and offering one to Mu Shuoqian, "So what should I call you, little sister-in-law? Qili sis is so much younger than I am, calling her sister-in-law would be a loss for me."
After saying that, he winked at Gu Qili, his flirtatious eyes blinking, "Right, Qili sis?"
Gu Qili smiled awkwardly, it was just a nickname and she really didn’t mind it. Besides, she wasn’t quite sure whether these people actually knew about their marriage.
"Mu, there’s something I want to discuss with you," Leng Shaoqing said seriously, his dense eyebrows rebelliously curling upwards, his long and slightly curled eyelashes shading a pair of devilishly charming eyes.
Mu Shuoqian, looking annoyed at being disturbed, played with a small ice cream spoon: "Speak."
Gu Qili thought she should perhaps step away, but Leng Shaoqing didn’t treat her like an outsider at all. After taking a sip of tea, he said, "Has Ninth Brother come looking for you?"
"What’s the matter?" Mu Shuoqian’s expression was cool.
"His casino is about to be swallowed up by Tang, he’s looking to us for help. Tang’s influence in Aus City is growing bigger by the day, many people are afraid of being devoured by him and are guarding against him both openly and secretly."
Mu Shuoqian was indifferent: "I had warned Ninth Brother to be careful, he didn’t listen. Now that things have gotten to this point, he wants my help,"
Leng Shaoqing put down his teacup, "I only promised to inject some capital into his business. Whether he can stand up to Tang, that’s up to his own fate."
Mu Shuoqian said nothing, obviously not interested in caring about the matter anymore.
Gu Qili couldn’t understand what they were saying and didn’t recognize who Old Nine and Master Tang were, but she knew that Mickey’s dad worked at a gambling den, which seemed to be on the verge of being taken over by someone else.
At this moment, the dishes they ordered arrived—the king crab fresh in from Australia, half roasted, half steamed; the lid wasn’t even lifted yet, but the aroma was already overwhelming.
"Hope you don’t mind me joining the meal," Leng Shaoqing said unabashedly, about to dig in.
Mu Shuoqian gave him a cold glance, then turned to Gu Qili, who was still daydreaming, and took the little spoon out of her hand: "Stop with the ice cream, have the crab first."
Mu Shuoqian was always pretty lazy when it came to eating, especially food that required hands-on effort, which he normally wouldn’t bother with.
After Gu Qili ate a few bites, she found it so fresh she wanted to cry, but seeing that he hadn’t touched his, only watching her eat, she started feeling embarrassed again.
She had been accustomed to these kinds of delicacies since childhood and was skilled at handling them. With a few quick moves, she had the crab meat ready and placed it on his plate, saying with a smile, "It’s really fresh."
Mu Shuoqian picked up his personal chopsticks and silently ate the crab meat, finishing it and then looking at her with his eyes.
Gu Qili had no choice but to peel another large crab leg for him, both the roasted and the steamed kind. The legs of the king crab were so long and big that stripping two legs almost filled the plate.
He savored the wine that had just been brought over, eating slowly and elegantly.
Leng Shaoqing on the opposite side was so astonished he felt stupefied. He would have taken out his phone to snap a picture if it weren’t for the fact that doing so would probably result in a beating. He really wanted to capture this once in a millennium scene.
Flaunting their love in front of this single dog, where is their integrity?
"Shuoqian, you’ve set up WeChat, why haven’t you added us?" Leng Shaoqing asked, dissatisfied, while munching on a crab leg.
Mu Shuoqian, continuing to eat the crab meat Gu Qili peeled for him, glanced at him and asked, "Why should I add you guys?"
Leng Shaoqing felt provoked and retorted, "Then why did you set up WeChat? If you’re not adding anyone, what’s the point?"
"Who said I’m not adding anyone?" Mu Shuoqian took a sip of the red wine, speaking indistinctly: "I just don’t consider you among them."
"Damn, you looking for a fight?"
Gu Qili, nibbling on a crab leg, watched the two grown men squabble.
Listening to their conversation, she suddenly felt a warm and fuzzy feeling inside; so in his WeChat, he hadn’t even added Leng Shaoqing, which meant he hadn’t added Nan Zhan and the others either. In his contact list, there was only her.
She couldn’t help but want to cover her face and giggle stealthily.
A little while later, a person who looked like a manager knocked and entered the room. After greeting Mu Shuoqian, he leaned over and whispered to Leng Shaoqing, "Mr. Leng, Master Tang has arrived."
Leng Shaoqing raised an eyebrow, "How come he’s here?"
Having said that, he stood up to leave, "I’m going to say hi."
Knowing that Mu Shuoqian wasn’t going to go, he didn’t ask for his opinion. He just waved to Gu Qili, "Qili, go ahead and enjoy your meal, eat to your heart’s content," and left.
Gu Qili hurriedly responded affirmatively.
"Is it good?" Mu Shuoqian had finished eating and was sipping his red wine alone.
Gu Qili was still gnawing at a crab leg and couldn’t bother to answer, just nodding vigorously.
Mu Shuoqian then called the waiter, "Pack another portion."
The waiter agreed promptly.
"Put it on the bill of your boss, tell him Qili enjoyed her meal very much and to thank him for it."
The waiter: "..."
His nonchalant demeanor made Gu Qili feel embarrassed for him; she was working to get his brothers a deal, yet he always managed to gain an advantage so effortlessly that nobody could complain.
For example, he just loved taking advantage of her.
Gu Qili wiped her hands, which were not quite clean and still smelled of crab meat, and then stood up saying, "I’m going to the restroom."
"Hmm." Mu Shuoqian’s phone just so happened to ring, and he glanced at it but didn’t answer immediately.
Gu Qili pushed the door open and left. She could still hear his ringtone from afar, but soon after, it seemed he answered the call, though she couldn’t make out what he said.
Having washed her hands, Gu Qili headed back, and when she passed by a private room, she saw two men in black with sunglasses, standing like door gods.
She couldn’t help but sneak a peek, curious about who was seated inside,
