The Ruthless CEO's Revenge Wife -
Chapter 88: What could go wrong?
Chapter 88: What could go wrong?
Emma continued chatting as she helped Jean dry her hair and get dressed, but Jean heard none of it. Her mind wasn’t blank... it was burning.
Not with panic or nerves, but with something wordless and determined. Something that kept her hands steady, even as the world around her blurred.
"Logan and Henry already hit the road," Emma said, checking her phone. "Apparently, there’s something they need to go over with the lawyer before the registration."
Jean nodded absently and walked to the mirror. She stared at her reflection for a long moment.
The woman staring back at her looked composed. The dress hugged her figure perfectly, her hair was done just right, and her face held no trace of the chaos she’d lived through.
She should feel pretty. She should feel something.
But all she could manage was a whisper: "Let’s go. I’m ready."
Emma didn’t question it. She just picked up her purse and opened the door.
As they stepped out of the apartment and into the car, neither of them noticed the non descript black vehicle pulling out two cars behind them. The same one that had followed them all morning. The same one that never lost sight of them.
Their path to the registry office had already been paved but so had the shadows waiting just beyond the turn.

The assistant immediately called Alex to inform him. The phone rang once before Alex picked it up. "Report."
His assistant’s voice came through, sharp and alert. "Sir, I just saw Ms. Adams. She exited the Kingsley penthouse wearing a thick coat and sunglasses. She’s with Emma Adams. They’re heading out now... getting into a car."
Alex’s eyes narrowed. "From Logan’s penthouse?"
"Yes, sir. Confirmed."
A cruel smirk curved Alex’s lips. So that’s how it is. She didn’t just grow a spine... she crawled into the lion’s den. And now she thinks she can escape with a ring?
"Keep following her," he ordered coldly. "Don’t engage. Just give me the location the moment they stop."
He hung up without waiting for a reply. Turning to his desk, Alex ran a hand through his hair, breathing hard. The rage boiling inside was twisted with something darker... pride, ego, humiliation.
"You thought you could make a fool of me, Jean?" He murmured. "You thought you could erase everything with one impulsive act?"
But not today.
Today, he would drag her back... by her hair if he had to. He would show Logan Kingsley, the world, and especially Jean that Alex Adams still controlled her fate.
He grabbed his coat and stormed out.
Game on.

Logan stepped out of the elevator onto the 30th floor of the sleek glass-paneled building, Henry flanking him on the right. His sharp navy suit was tailored to perfection, his expression unreadable.
A group of sharply dressed men and women stood waiting just outside the registrar’s office... Logan’s legal team. They immediately straightened up at the sight of him.
"Is everything ready?" Logan asked briskly.
One of the senior attorneys, a composed man in his fifties, stepped forward. "Yes, Mr. Kingsley. The marriage contract has been prepared according to your directives."
Then came the pause.
"However..." The lawyer hesitated, clutching the leather folder tightly. "Will Ms. Adams be comfortable with these terms?"
Logan’s jaw ticked. His gaze turned steely.
"That’s something she should be concerned about," he said coolly. "If she disagrees... then we won’t go through with the marriage. That’s it."
His words cut like glass, final and non-negotiable.
Without waiting for further response, Logan turned and strode forward. Henry gave the legal team a nod and followed close behind. The group moved as one, their footsteps echoing in the marble-tiled hallway.
As the doors to the registrar’s office opened, Logan’s sharp eyes caught a group of people standing inside, clearly startled by his arrival.
It was the shareholders of Adams Corporation. Their jaws dropped. A few even exchanged frantic whispers.
Logan didn’t stop. He didn’t greet them. Not yet.
He walked right past, his presence like a storm sweeping through the room. He had no obligation to explain himself. Not to them. Not now.
Then... soft laughter and a pair of open arms.
"Logan!" Martha Kingsley’s voice was filled with joy as she rushed to embrace him, Hannah just behind with his father.
Logan allowed himself a rare smile as his mother and sister enveloped him in a warm hug.
"You look dashing," Hannah teased, fixing the collar of his suit.
His father asked him genuine concern, "You’re really going to do this?"
He glanced toward the entrance, where Jean was yet to arrive.
"Yeah," he said, voice low but certain.
"I’m going to marry her."
And nothing was going to stop him now. Except JEAN.

Jean stepped through the polished glass doors of the towering commercial building, her heels echoing across the marbled lobby floor. Her thick beige coat was buttoned up tight, and oversized sunglasses shielded half her face, but there was no mistaking her presence.
Behind her, Emma hurried in, carrying the carefully packed dress in a zippered garment bag. Three familiar faces stood up from a bench near the reception... Jean’s project team from South Korea.
Jean blinked in surprise. "You called them here?"
Emma nodded, smiling. "We needed three witnesses. Who better than the women who stood beside you on your most ruthless trip?"
The women hugged Jean one by one, warm and buzzing with excitement. But the moment shattered like glass when a woman in a sleek black suit approached them.
"Ms. Adams," she said smoothly. "Mr. Kingsley has requested your presence in the boardroom on the 20th floor. He’d like to discuss something with you in private before the registration."
Jean tilted her head. "Logan wants to talk? Now?"
The woman nodded politely. "Yes. Just you. The rest of your team can proceed to the registrar’s office on the 30th floor."
Emma’s brows furrowed. "I wasn’t told about any meeting. Henry usually loops me in... let me confirm it with him." She quickly dialed Henry, holding the phone to her ear.
Ringing.
Ringing.
No answer.
Jean exhaled sharply through her nose. "It’s okay, Emma. We’re in a legal building. There are people everywhere. What could go wrong?"
