Chapter 68: Tyler Dominic’s Claimed Possession
The three of them froze.
Daniel Dominic stood behind them, perfectly dressed in a sharp black suit. His face betrayed nothing, but the chill in his tone was unmistakable.
Alex turned, face paled a little. "Mr. Dominic. I didn’t know you were standing there..."
"I was," Daniel said coolly. "Now tell me, what sort of feelings are we talking about? And why does it sound like your sister is about to fall for someone else?"
Darla quickly stepped in with a tight smile. "Oh, nothing serious, Daniel. You know how siblings tease each other. Alex was just being overdramatic."
Daniel’s eyes stayed on Alex. "Were you?"
Alex swallowed. "No, I mean... yes, I was just joking. That’s all."
But Daniel didn’t look convinced.
He glanced across the room, where Jean had paused near the refreshment table, quietly sipping water. His gaze narrowed slightly.
Then, with a smile that didn’t quite reach his eyes, Daniel said, "Good. Because I don’t like surprises. Especially when I’ve already made plans for someone."
He walked off with calm confidence, but a distinct sense of threat lingered in the air behind him.
Darla turned to Alex, voice like ice. "Next time, keep your mouth shut."
Alex just scowled. "She’s going to ruin everything."

Jean stood by the refreshment table, the glass of water trembling faintly between her fingers. Her heart hadn’t stopped racing since she left the stage. What had gotten into her?
The words she said weren’t planned... they spilled out of her as naturally as a breath. But maybe that was the point.
Alex had made it clear she was no longer a problem for them. So why not stir the pot a little before she was handed over like some fragile corporate gift?
"Miss Adams?" a soft voice interrupted her thoughts.
Jean turned to see a young hostess in a neat black and white uniform. She was holding a clipboard and smiling nervously.
"Yes?"
"Apologies to bother you, but... did you happen to leave a bag inside the waiting room?"
Jean blinked. "No, I don’t think so."
"Are you sure?" The girl insisted, her voice a little too eager, her eyes flicking behind Jean as if watching for someone. "It could be something important. Perhaps someone mistook it as yours? It’s best you check once."
Something about her tone made Jean pause. Still, not wanting to cause a scene or seem paranoid... she sighed. "Fine. I’ll go take a look."
The hallway felt quieter now, strangely still. Her heels clicked softly as she made her way back to the room she thought she was done with for the night. Pushing the door open, she stepped inside.
Empty.
No bags. No clutches. Nothing.
She was just about to turn back when...
Click.
The door shut behind her.
Jean froze. "What the hell?"
The metallic sound of a lock echoed in the quiet room. Her breath caught as she turned slowly, her heart pounding in her ears.
A tall figure stood by the door, one hand still resting on the lock.
"Who are you?" Jean asked sharply. "What are you doing here? Open the door..."
He turned.
Her blood turned to ice.
Tyler.
His dark eyes gleamed beneath the soft light, and his lips curved into a twisted smile. "That was quite the speech, Jean."
Her legs nearly gave out. She took a shaky step back, her voice caught somewhere in her throat.
"I almost thought..." he drawled slowly, stepping toward her with calculated ease, "you were going to confess your undying love for that fatty."
Jean’s throat constricted. Her back hit the edge of the table behind her.
Tyler chuckled... low and dangerous. "Because if you did..." His eyes darkened as he drew closer, each step more deliberate than the last, "...then I’d have to do something really, really bad... to you."

Logan gripped his drink tighter, barely hearing the laughter around him. Hannah was chatting away with some guests, while Martha stood beside him, her smile radiant... until she turned to him and gave his arm a firm smack.
"Ow," Logan muttered, glaring at her. "What was that for?"
"For embarrassing that poor girl on stage," Martha said. "Calling her clumsy and saying she was raised in the wild? Really?"
Logan looked away, jaw tightening. "I was being honest."
His father chuckled behind his glass. "Honest or still sore about the past?"
Logan rolled his eyes.
Then he heard it again. Her voice. Echoing in his mind.
’He poisoned himself and I had to save him.’
He’d expected her to retaliate. Throw him under the bus. Humiliate him in front of all those corporate wolves.
But instead... she’d thanked him.
’He’s the only person in this room I fully trust.’
His chest tightened.
Why? Why would she say something like that? After everything between them... after what she did... why now?
He caught himself staring at the hallway again, the direction she disappeared in after her speech.
Was she okay? She looked shaken.
"Thinking of going after her?" Hannah’s voice chimed behind him, amused.
"I’m just curious," Logan said flatly.
Martha’s smile returned, softer this time. "Maybe it’s time you two actually talked, hmm?"
Logan didn’t respond. He handed his glass to a passing waiter and stepped away from the group.
He didn’t know what he was going to say, or what she would say in return. But he needed to see her. Needed to ask her... face to face... why she looked at him like that, why her voice trembled when she said she trusted him.
He needed to hear the truth from Jean’s lips.
Logan couldn’t stop replaying Jean’s words in his head.
"He’s the only person in this room I fully trust."
Why would she say that?
Especially after everything? After years of rivalry, bitterness and unfinished history between them?
It didn’t make sense.
Which only meant one thing... Jean Adams was playing another one of her twisted games. And he was done sitting quiet.
His jaw clenched as he scanned the room until he spotted the Adams family gathered in their usual circle of cold perfection. Darla stood like a marble statue, expression unreadable. Derek was busy chatting with someone important, while Alex... Alex had his usual smug look plastered across his face.
Logan walked straight toward them, ignoring the people who tried to grab his attention on the way.
"I need to talk to Jean," he said, standing firmly in front of them.
