Chapter 138: Hannah’s Intervention
Chapter 138: Hannah’s Intervention
Jean looked away.
Logan took another step. "You were nearly thrown into a fire. Your brother beat you half-conscious. And the first thing you want to do... is silence the only people who care about you?"
Still no answer from her.
He gave a broken laugh, low and bitter. "An NDA, Jean? That’s what you trust more than me?"
Her lips parted slightly, and her fingers gripped the blanket tighter.
But her silence was answer enough.
Logan’s breath caught in his throat.
"You’ve never seen me as someone worth relying on," he said, voice barely above a whisper. "Not then. Not now."
She blinked, startled.
"Not even for something like this," he continued. "You’d rather carry it all alone. Rather silence Hannah... my sister... than let me in. Even for a second."
His eyes burned, but he wouldn’t let them fall.
The air in the room was thick with unspoken emotions.
Hannah stood by the window, hands tightly clasped, she quickly stepped between him and Jean.
"Please stop," Hannah said, her voice soft but surprisingly firm. "Both of you. Just... don’t fight like this."
Logan raised an eyebrow at his sister, surprised by her sudden intervention. Jean looked up too, startled.
"I get it," Hannah continued, her voice quivering. "There’s so much going on. Jean’s hurt. You’re scared and angry, Logan. But shouting won’t fix anything. And... Jean’s right."
Logan narrowed his eyes. "What?"
Jean looked just as confused.
"I signed the NDA," Hannah reminded gently. "I joined her company. And it said I had to protect anything about her and the business. It’s only right I keep my word. Even if it hurts. Even if I want to tell Mom and Dad everything."
Logan stared at her in disbelief. "You’re siding with her?"
"I’m not siding with anyone!" Hannah cried, exasperated. "I’m trying to stop both of you from imploding."
Jean looked away, cheeks burning in guilt. Logan folded his arms, clearly holding back from lashing out again.
Hannah stepped forward, standing right between them.
"Can’t you both just remember why you got married in the first place?" she said with wide, sincere eyes. "Because you love each other."
Logan almost choked.
Jean nearly fell off the bed.
Emma? She just snorted... followed by a full on laugh.
Logan whipped his head toward her with a glare. "Emma!"
Jean hissed, "You’re not helping!"
Emma grinned sheepishly. "Sorry, sorry but come on! That was... adorable."
Hannah blinked in confusion, then glanced between Logan and Jean, trying to understand the strange silence.
Jean cleared her throat loudly and muttered under her breath, "Hannah, maybe you should get some water or something."
Logan turned his back toward the wall, trying to erase the blush rising to his ears. "Yeah. Please go get some air before this conversation goes places we can’t recover from."
"Wait... but why?"
"Water, Hannah," Jean said firmly, pulling the blanket up to her chin like it could shield her from the embarrassment.
"Lots of it," Logan added with a grim nod, refusing to meet anyone’s eyes.
Emma was doubled over by now, laughing into her hand.
Logan turned to her with a withering stare. "And you..."
"Not a word," Jean growled.
Emma held up her hands in surrender but was clearly enjoying the scene too much to stop grinning.
Finally, Hannah sighed and headed for the door, mumbling, "Okay okay, going. But I still think you both are totally in love and just too blind to see it through your anger."
The door closed behind her.
The room fell quiet again.
Jean stared at the blanket.
Logan rubbed his forehead.
Emma gave one last giggle and whispered under her breath, "Tension aside... she’s not wrong."
Jean glared at her. Logan said nothing.
But deep down?
Maybe... just maybe... the chaos had cracked something open; neither of them could keep it buried much longer.
"I get it. You don’t love me. You never did. This marriage...this contract... it’s just paperwork to you. I knew that when I signed it. I was ready for that."
He looked away, jaw tight.
"But what I didn’t expect... is how much it would hurt to be treated like I’m still on the outside. Even now. After everything."
Jean’s expression cracked. Her lips trembled, just barely.
"Logan..."
But he shook his head. Not angrily. Just... tired.
"I’m not angry," he said quietly. "Just frustrated by your behaviour."
With that, he turned away. Sparing Emma a single glance.
"Get her discharge papers ready," he muttered, his voice low but commanding. "We’re taking Jean home."
Emma nodded, watching him go with a knowing expression.
No slammed door this time.
Just the quiet click of it closing, and the echo of his absence lingering in the room like a bruise.
Logan let out a sharp sigh and pinched the bridge of his nose. Without a word, he reached for Hannah’s wrist and gently tugged her out of the hospital.

Downstairs, Hannah struggled to keep up with Logan’s pace as they reached the hospital lobby. She finally halted near the vending machines, her brows furrowed.
"Logan," she said, "why did Emma laugh when I said you two got married because you love each other?"
Logan froze.
There it was... the question he had been dreading.
His jaw tensed as he turned to face her, searching for the right lie... no, the right truth that wouldn’t expose the contract.
"It’s not always about being in love," he finally said, his voice careful. "Sometimes it’s about... compatibility. About companionship. With Jean, it’s easy to talk. We understand each other. Our goals, our values... they align."
Hannah tilted her head slightly, eyes narrowing in curiosity.
"And you look good together," she added softly.
Logan blinked, caught off guard. "You think so?"
She smiled and nodded. "Yeah. You guys look... perfect. And it’s always like you want to have her all to yourself. You don’t let anyone else get too close."
He swallowed hard, unsure how to respond. Her words hit deeper than she could ever know.
Do I want her to be mine... truly mine? But that wasn’t in the contract.
