Chapter 114: A Belated Ring Ceremony

Chapter 114: A Belated Ring Ceremony

Jean was about to head for the door when Logan stopped her with a soft call, "Wait."

She turned, puzzled. "What?"

He nodded toward the coffee table near the staircase.

Jean’s gaze followed... and her breath caught.

Two small, elegant boxes rested there, side by side like a secret waiting to be revealed.

She walked over, slowly, her heels silent on the polished floor. "Rings?"

Logan came up beside her, his voice quiet but sure. "Emma and Henry picked them up the day of our wedding. But that day was already... too much. I didn’t want to pressure you into wearing them then."

Jean stared at the boxes, her heart thudding. She hadn’t thought about rings. Not really. Maybe because a part of her never expected the marriage to be this difficult.

Even though it’s fake, she didn’t think through the rest. It wasn’t a calculative move but an impulsive one.

She swallowed hard. "And now?"

Logan picked up the smaller box, flipped it open with a practiced elegance, and held it out to her.

Inside, a simple yet striking band sparkled under the warm light. Elegant platinum, with a subtle design... nothing flashy, but undeniably beautiful. It was crafted to suit a woman who didn’t want the world, just a part of it that was truly hers.

"With this," Logan said, his voice lower now, "our looks will be complete."

Jean’s fingers hesitated near the ring. Her throat tightened. This wasn’t just a showpiece... it was a symbol, even if it came late.

Her eyes met Logan’s, searching.

Was this all part of the act?

She didn’t ask.

Jean extended her hand... not to let him slide the ring onto her finger, but to take it herself.

But Logan didn’t let go.

He pulled the box slightly back, a teasing smirk curling his lips. "Let me," he said smoothly, voice just above a whisper. "After all, I’m your husband."

Jean exhaled sharply and rolled her eyes. "It isn’t really necessary. You’re wasting time."

Logan’s smirk deepened, as if he had been expecting her to say exactly that. "This is called romance, Jean. You would know, if you had any in your life."

Jean scoffed. "While you were busy having romance with countless women," she said, her tone sharp as glass, "I was out there building an empire on my own."

Logan’s eyebrow arched at her tone, his voice calm but biting. "And yet... here you are. The woman who begged me to marry her."

That did it.

Jean’s expression darkened with fury. "Fine!" she snapped, turning on her heels. "Do whatever you want... I’m out."

She stomped away, but Logan’s hand shot out, wrapping firmly around her wrist. He pulled her back, not roughly, but with enough strength to make her spin... and almost trip... into him.

Her hands clutched at the lapels of his coat for balance, their faces now far too close.

His other hand steadied her waist, firm and unapologetic.

Jean’s breath hitched.

His cologne wrapped around her senses... rich, dark, and unmistakably him.

But it wasn’t the scent that made her heart thump.

It was his eyes.

Dark, focused, unreadable... and far too intense.

She blinked, suddenly forgetting how to breathe. How did he always manage to steal the air from her lungs without even trying?

Logan’s voice was low and unyielding. "If you’re going to be my wife in the public eye, Jean... maybe it’s time you stop acting like I’m the enemy."

Jean opened her mouth to respond... but the words tangled on her tongue.

And then...

His fingers reached for the ring again.

This time, she didn’t stop him.

Logan slid the ring onto her finger, the metal cool against her skin... but the way his eyes held hers sent a flush straight to her chest. Then, with deliberate slowness, he brought her hand toward his mouth.

Before his lips could touch, Jean yanked it back.

"Don’t even think about it," she warned, her tone sharp enough to cut steel.

Logan blinked, then let out a short laugh, shaking his head in disbelief. "Unbelievable." He reached for the other box and handed it to her. "Now your turn."

Jean took it, opening the small case. The ring gleamed under the soft lights, elegant and bold... just like Logan. She raised her brow, impressed by the ring. "Your assistant has good taste."

Logan leaned in slightly, voice teasing. "Or maybe he just picked something he thought I would like."

Jean rolled her eyes again. "Yeah right, Kingsley."

"Come on," he urged, extending his hand.

With a small huff, Jean took his hand and carefully slipped the ring onto his finger. It slid on perfectly, almost like it belonged there. Her eyes lingered for a second too long.

"It fits," she said softly.

A silence passed between them... thick with something neither dared to name.

Then Jean brought his hand up slowly, her lips inching closer.

Logan blinked, confused. "Wait... what are you doing?"

Jean glanced at him. "Isn’t that what you were going to do with mine?"

"Yeah, but..." he hesitated, frowning. "Women don’t usually do that."

Jean froze. Her eyes widened in horror. "Wait... what?"

Before he could answer, she threw his hand back at him like it had caught fire.

Logan burst out laughing, unable to hold it in. "You really didn’t know that? I’m surprised!" he teased, eyes dancing with amusement.

Jean’s cheeks flushed pink as she grabbed her clutch and marched toward the door. "Let’s just get this over with," she muttered, hiding her face.

Logan followed behind her, smiling ear to ear like a man who had just won a war he never planned to fight.

Inside the backseat of the black luxury car, the soft hum of the engine was the only sound between them at first. Logan adjusted his cufflinks, glancing sideways at Jean, who sat with her legs crossed and arms folded, her head turned toward the window.

"You know we’re not just going in there for dinner, right?" Logan finally broke the silence.

Jean didn’t move. "I know. It’s a show. For the vultures."
