Chapter 96: Chapter 95
Chapter 95
The two girls eyed each other, and Melisca stood up. It was a good thing that she had finished her breakfast already before Macky showed up. And she was thankful for his abrupt interruption in their conversation. At least her mind would be occupied by something else of what Macky wanted with her.
She followed him out of the cafeteria.
"Where are we going? Would you mind telling me what’s up?" She asked, walking behind him with a bit of distance. This trainer was always touchy with her, and she doesn’t like it. He was in his late 30s, and she doesn’t want to get kicked out by killing a lecherous man or by cutting his wrist when he touches her again.
"The committee wanted to see you personally. They want to know the new star trainee that we haven’t had in a long time." He explained as they walked to the lobby and they entered a place that she never been to before. She had to remember every corridor and map them out in her mind. "The committee—they’re the people behind the hunters’ success nowadays. Be sure to be respectful, Lorwey. Because I can see that you lack that."
Wow. She never thought that he would be blunt about it. And she wasn’t that offended because she already knew it in herself.
The corridors they were strolling were a bit dim, narrow, and colder in the atmosphere. It was so silent that a pin drop could be heard. Their footsteps echoed within the walls.
There were other doors around, and they walked past them. "What’s behind these doors?" She asked in a low voice, but it got louder as it reverberated around.
"Not for you to find out, Lorwey. How are your injuries? You didn’t come to the clinic." So, he planned to visit her there then. It was a good thing she doesn’t need it.
"They’re fine. I’m recovering."
Then, they stopped in front of a door with the signage on the top. ’Committee Room’. Macky scanned his card, and the door opened voluntarily for them.
Macky entered first. The room was wide, and they had to take a step down as they were on a platform. The bright white light was from a chandelier above. She noticed unfamiliar and familiar faces. They were in a white uniform.
"The committees are in white." Macky whispered, turning behind him to look at her.
The people in white uniform were sitting at a long table in front of the wide glass wall. She was seeing the ceiling of the arena behind them. She realized that she was inside the glass balcony she was looking up from below the arena.
"Hello, Liz." Vera was the first to greet her and stepped closer to them. "Thanks for bringing her here, Macky. Please wait outside." She instructed, and Macky nodded before he complied.
Melisca stood petrified at seeing the doctor again so soon. And the woman was clinging her arm around hers. How she wanted to shove her away, or better yet, to hold her neck and smash her head down on the table that was in front of them. She wanted to slam her head countless times. Or decapitate it and show everyone around that she was there to kill those who hurt her, those who took from her.
And then she would get to Josh, who stood behind some committee members. He was grinning proudly at her. Doesn’t he remember her face when they chased after her? Surely there couldn’t be much of a difference from how she looked when she was still eight years old. Her eyes were remarkable enough. Or maybe she was just exaggerating for herself. The compliments about her beauty were getting on her head.
Her hands were trembling for wanting to rip his heart out and smash it with her bare hands. She just wanted to be brutal. She was seeing red now, and the place was totally inappropriate for such emotions.
She coiled her hands to stop them from doing what they wanted to do.
"Everyone, this here is Melisca Lorwey. Our new star trainee. My daughter recruited her." Vera announced in front of her colleagues.
"Wow, you were even more gorgeous in person. The screen doesn’t do you justice." One of the older men complimented with canned juice in his hand.
"Stop it, Wallace. You’re old enough for her." Beside him was another woman, probably in her early 40s. There were some laugh lines in her face.
"I was just complimenting her beauty." The other defended.
"Right. It’s not everyday we can see a beauty like this. And can kick ass. Hello, dear. I’m Joana." Another lady in a tight bun reached for her hand and shook it with both hands, clasping hers.
"Smile, Lorwey. We don’t bite." Vera whispered in her ear.
That made her blood boil.
"Aw!" Joana winced and pulled her hand away from Melisca.
"I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to..." Melisca was shocked herself that she exerted some of her anger towards the handshake. It went off her mind that the woman was holding it.
"It’s okay, dear." Joana smiled at her with understanding. "You’re indeed strong." She even waved her hand to see that it wasn’t serious.
Melisca did her best to be civil enough. Well, if staying silent was, and she only opens her mouth when they ask her something.
"Sit with us, Liz." Vera led her to a lounge area with a long sofa at the corner and a small table surrounded by another seat. There was also a bar counter at the opposite corner. It was clear that the room were for VIPs like them. It seemed like they could have their own bartender to service them. Wines and liquors were stocked in a shelf behind the counter.
"So, Lorwey, your purpose of joining was to avenge your family that were killed by wolves. It was lucky that you survived then. Where did the attack happen?" The last man standing to the right asked her the serious question.
As she can see there were six people in total of the committee members. Vera was one of them as she was in a white uniform like the rest.
"In Falden City." Another voice answered it for her. It sounded familiar. It was a lilting voice that she heard before.
Then a woman appeared from the corner and smiled at her while she walked closer. Her silvery white hair was like a curtain of silk that hanging loosely as some had strayed in front of her.
Melisca’s heartbeat almost stopped in her chest. Of course, she couldn’t forget that white haired woman she met before. Her white hair were too remarkable and she looked like a human elf, minus the pointy ears.
