Chapter 92: Chapter 91

Chapter 91

Melisca successfully did not kill Lorna yesterday since she got back to her room. She did not go out even during meal times. She hasn’t eaten anything at all until now.

She was currently having breakfast in the cafeteria. It was still early in the morning. She’s the first customer, and she ordered a lot. Well, she missed two meals yesterday.

Lorna might have noticed that she was avoiding her. Well, she had to gather herself after what she found out yesterday. It was another blow to her soul. And even now, there was contained rage in her. She finished her meal quickly and got to the stadium first. And she noticed that the right cage was down.

Some senior trainers entered.

"Lorwey! You’re too early." Macky, one of them called out to her. "Come here!" He gestured for her to come on the platform.

The other trainers were inspecting the metal cage.

"There’ll be a cage fight today. You’ll finally witness then how hunters fight the monsters." He announced as she stood next to him.

Oh, really? But you were monsters yourselves. "What supernatural is it?" She asked curiously.

"The usual type. Nothing else new today. It’s the werewolf we had two weeks ago. You were not yet here at that time." He glanced at her.

She nodded. "What potion you’d use?"

"ABD. If you recall, what was that for?" He had both hands to his waist.

"I do."

"Would you like to give it a try?"

She turned her head at him. "Are you serious?" It would be a great stress reliever for her. To fight with her other half without holding back. Even with ABD, it would be helpful for her to restrain her abilities. It was an advantage for her equally.

"You think you can do it?"

She gave him a sideways glance. "You think I can’t?"

There was an amused smile on his lips. "You’re too confident, Lorwey. You beat one teacher, doesn’t mean you can best everyone all the time."

"But I can try." She knew she sounded arrogant, but she doesn’t care. She can feel in herself that whoever she would be against would get knocked down because of the rage inside her. It was a natural booster in her system.

"Okay. I’ll have you go first when we start." Macky said, but there was hesitance in his tone. He was ready to see her lose.

"Great." She stepped away from the platform and went to sit back on the benches again. Her hands were clenching and unclenching on her knees.

Lorna came along with the other trainees. She sauntered in Liz’s direction. There was a determined look on her face.

Melisca took a deep breath. She can’t avoid her forever. She just doesn’t know how to react to her after finding out they were actually cousins. She can’t get out of her head that Lorna’s parents were involved in killing her mother. She just can’t look at her the same way as before.

"Liz, how are you feeling? I went to your dorm and the cafeteria. But you’re already here." The girl was standing in front of her.

"I’m fine." She uttered, trying to keep her voice low and normal. She glanced at her, and a thought crossed her mind again. That’s why she somehow saw some resemblance of her mother in Vera when they were at the hospital. The two were sisters. They all have the same brown hair. She hated that the same blood runs through their system. Blood that never mattered to them.

She looked away before she could burn the girl just by looking at her face.

Lorna stared at Liz. She felt like she didn’t want to talk to her or even see her face. She bit her lips, trying to take courage. "Did I do something wrong?"

Now, she had to ask her that? She was not overly calm yet, and Lorna seemed to push her button by questioning her.

I don’t know. But your parents did. Everyone did. There was a thought in her that only if Lorna wasn’t her parents’ daughter, then there wouldn’t be any problem. And it’s a damn lie if she would just act like nothing was wrong when she found out she’s the killer’s daughter. Lorna wouldn’t like her anyway if she knew that she was planning to take revenge on her parents. That she was planning to kill them.

"No." Her mere answer.

"But you’re acting like..."

Melisca raised an eyebrow at her.

"Like I did something wrong."

"No. I’m fine. You’re fine. Nothing’s wrong." She mumbled and stood up. She walked past the girl and went to the platform where some senior students gathered around the cage.

Everything’s wrong. But you’re still fine. That’s the only truth for now.

Lorna followed Liz by gaze. She was lying. She was cold to her all of a sudden. She thought of everything she’d done so far, recalling if she did or said something that irked the woman. But there was none. Or maybe she was just on her period. Her face brightened in realization. "That could be it!" There could be no other explanation than that.

She decided to let it slide, and she’ll approach her later again.

After a few more minutes, all the seniors gathered on the platform, and the other groups were sitting at the benches.

"Alright. Good morning, everyone! As you can see, today a cage is down. You know what that means. Some of the seniors would be tested today. As always, we use ABD. But there won’t be any false syringe now. One of them just had to be taken down." Macky explained.

The hunters who fought in the cage before were given a mock-syringe. An empty one just for the test.

"And the first one who volunteered was... Do you want to guess?" Macky looked around to see everyone’s face in anticipation.

Melisca fumbled in her gloves, making sure that it was securely protecting her skin. She touched her braided hair that twisted into a tight bun earlier. She just hoped there would be no hair pulling. But that was highly inevitable in a fight.

"Our new recruit that joined senior in just a day. Melisca Lorwey!"

There were cat-callings and cheering from the crowed. Melisca wanted to roll her eyes at that. Macky could be less dramatic doing announcements. She already had a lot of haters and it kept on growing whenever she showed off her skills.

Lorna instantly stood up in hearing her friend’s name. She was worried because Liz just joined a week ago. And she hasn’t witnessed a cage fight yet. But now, she was the first one to go. She wanted to stop her but she remembered that Liz had taken down one before. But that was only once. What if she were just lucky back then? She could never be too sure because she hadn’t witnessed how she fought it. She was thinking of going up there to talk her out of it, but then, she was on the edge since yesterday. She doesn’t know why but she had a feeling that Liz needed this.

Melisca approached Macky’s side and the other trainers stood next to her.

"Are you sure about this, Lorwey?" Hanna asked. She was their science teacher as she was the one who lectured them about different kind of chemicals in their creations.

"Why did you agree to it, Mac? She’s a first timer." Another one of the trainers commented.

"I asked her and she wanted to." Macky shrugged his shoulders.

The door from the tunnel connected from the cage opened. They all looked at the entrance and a woman with ragged clothes, her jeans were tattered, hair wild and covering her face. And there was a collar to her neck. Her tanned skin had scratches, and her fingers had some blood and burns. She was being assisted by two uniformed hunters in each side. They strutted the tunnel and pushed the woman in the cage. They instantly locked the opening in their end.

"Listen, Lorwey." Macky gripped her arm to get her attention. She swatted his hand away. That made him frown but he continued. "That wolf was still under ABD. And we would be spreading it again once you enter."

So that explains why her scratches and wounds haven’t healed.

"Her collar would automatically send electric shocks if she tried to remove it or to shift in their wolf form. For now, we would deactivate her collar so if you touched it, you won’t be electrocuted. You can use your weapon on her but she can use it against you too so be careful not to let her have it. With me so far?"

She nodded.

"Good. She maybe under the influence of ABD but she still had underlying strength left so you better be careful. Tap the ground if you want out. And remember don’t strain yourself too much if you can’t take her down. Not everybody wins on their first try."

She snorted silently, her lips almost made a smile. But she was able to held it in. But he got some point. Her first try before was at the back of the club. He was under the influence of Anti-superno, not ABD. She wanders though if what could have happened if she did not inject him of the chemical. Would the result be the same?

Melisca shook her head. That was in the past and she had another one in front of her right now. She was surprised that she got to meet their female equivalent.

"You ready, Lorwey? Last second change of mind. I’d hate to see your face damaged by that monster." Another trainer asked.

"I’m doing this." She stepped up in front of the cage door. Two other hunters stood in each side.

"Good luck."

She didn’t know who tapped her shoulder but she straightened her back and held her head high.
