Chapter 83
They finally took their seats at the table. However, Gandolf remained standing behind Ezekiel. His king instructed him before not to eat with them, as Zek was paranoid of getting their food poisoned. He remembered that Laia said she survived after drinking human blood immediately when she was injected. Zek can do that, as he was half vampire. But for Gandolf, he wouldn’t risk it.
Even if Liam Jorda never showed him anything to be in doubt of his loyalty, there could always be a chance of a change of heart. And Gandolf was too important for him to take that risk. He had him eat in advance though, as he asked one of his people in the area to prepare food for him, and he consumed them on their way to the Jordas.
The food in their mansion was always delicious. He would often compliment the chef who prepared for them. Even if it had been a long time since his last visit, the taste stays the same, if not better.
Ezekiel ate gracefully like humans. Most supernatural beings can stomach human food normally. But it’s not really essential to other races. They have other main sources for the nutrients they need.
"How was your visit with the company, Mr. Stavrus?" Veronika asked in the middle of their meal.
He did not bother to correct her. He preferred to be called formally rather than his name by the humans.
"I wasn’t able to go there yet. I stumbled on a business deal when I landed at the airport." Then he looked at Liam. "And I’d like for us to discuss it at your office for more privacy."
"Of course, Mr. Stavrus." Liam replied and his daughter nodded.
A few more minutes, and they were done in the dining room. Zek sent his compliments to the chief and the butler, who served them well.
They moved to Liam’s office in the mansion shortly after their lunch. It was now only Liam, Veronika, Gandolf, and him in the room. Zek sat in the wing chair at the head of the lounge seats, and Gandolf remained on guard closely behind him. They had offered him refreshments, but he refused, as Zek told him earlier to not have anything unless it was made by their people in the area.
The father and daughter sat on the leather sofa to his left. A small table was in front of them.
"Ms. Jorda, I assume you already know the requirements of my approval for you to be the CEO in my company. The sacrifices you had to make. I would like to clarify that you agree to all my terms." He propped an elbow on the armrest and tilted his head in the Jorda’s direction.
Both looked at him earnestly. Anticipating every word he speaks. His eyes solely on the girl to directly make her understand that everything he says was to be followed and he’s the only one who had absolute power in the room. She met his gaze. That’s a good sign for him that she’s not easy to intimidate. But he can feel that they had been holding their breaths in his presence.
"Breathe humans." He said it out of context. "I won’t eat you alive. I’m not a cannibal." He can hear their rapid heartbeats, especially the gorgeous Ms. Jorda. She had been the one who was tensed since they arrived. He noticed her courage not to waver beneath his gaze. But her heartbeat was like a drumroll next to his ears. "I would like for you not to faint until I’m done here."
Veronika withdrew her gaze and took a deep breath. Her chest had been constricting since earlier. The presence of Ezekiel Stavrus was too much to bear. He was like a silent storm. A dark cloud loomed as his shadow. She had seen him before, and he looked exactly the same as then. It had totally blown her mind that they truly exist. Beings beyond science were walking among them. Breathing the same air as them.
"You can only marry someone who wouldn’t replace or try to covet your position. You should be extra careful in selecting a partner, Ms. Jorda. If someone tries to sabotage my company, I wouldn’t think twice to take the matter of getting rid of them myself. And you can have an only child. I don’t want any complications in your family for who would take over. Competitions would be avoided, and my identity would remain known to limited people only." He paused and squinted his eyes at her. He noticed she gulped. "And last, but not least, Ms. Jorda, traitors had no second chances under me. If you ever crossed that line, I won’t hesitate to end your life and those who were involved. You can never escape no matter where you hide."
Veronika sucked an air. Her chest tightened again. It was totally a dreadful and one-sided term. But it’s the price of being the front of SCC.
"You can enjoy my money and the privilege of the position, but you know that your life would be at stake if you sat on it. Are you still willing to accept the position?"
She looked him directly in the eye. The intense green of his eyes turned darker. It was so breathtaking to look at, even knowing how dangerous it is to stare. She knew that he’s a hybrid. He can compel her to lose her mind and to do his bidding. But he doesn’t have to. He had everything any lady would beg to have for their partners in any aspect. But she knew he was off-limits. And she wouldn’t dare. She still loves her life and hasn’t fully enjoyed it yet at 26 years old, though she would be turning 27 soon.
"Yes, Mr. Stavrus. I understand and I would comply to everything you’ve said." She responded and bowed her head in submittance. Her father gave her a heads up of how to act in front of the man.
"One more thing. Don’t ever attempt to seduce me."
Ms. Jorda just looked at him but her mouth quirked a little. It seemed like she wanted to say something but kept it to herself.
"And if you ever get involved with another supernatural out of business matter, I would take everything from you then. I’ll retract your position just like this." He snapped his fingers. The sound was loud and crisp. "You’ll be left with nothing."
"I completely understand, Mr. Stavrus." She responded respectfully with a head bowed down.
"Good." He gestured his fingers for Gandolf to come forward. "Gandolf, please take a seat and give the file as what she should do as the standing CEO."
"Yes, alpha." Gandolf obliged and took the seat to Ezekiel’s right side, across the Jordas. He placed the briefcase on top of the small table and opened it. He took a folder and handed it to the lady. Veronika reached out her hand and accepted it with a little nod. She knew that she should pay respect to the other man in the room also. Her father told her that there are two people Ezekiel Stavrus are closest to and trusted the most. Gandolf Castro was one of them. And he was also a supernatural. A pureblood werewolf.
"I would elaborate it briefly. Any big deals that the company had to sign should be dealt by me. All the final decisions should be approved by me, especially the contracts." He leaned forward, closer to the table. "I repeat, Ms. Jorda. Most specifically the contract deals."
"Of course, Mr. Stavrus." She nodded again.
"But there are things also that I’ll let you decide on your own. It’s stated on that paper. Make sure to read and understand everything. But if there are some things that you are uncertain with, just make the secretary contact me or anyone of my two other officers. I’m sure Liam already filled you in that information." He glanced at Liam. The man nodded. "You can only contact me directly if it’s urgent or if your life depended on it."
She nodded.
"I don’t hear a nod, Ms. Jorda." He stated.
"Yes, Mr. Stavrus." Her eyes went wide with frantic immediately for making such mistake.
"But still, you’re on probation. And I had an upcoming perfect project for you to accomplish beyond my expectation."
Liam and Veronika exchanged glances.
Ezekiel continued. "By the time I’m finished with the design, I’ll leave the rest to you then."
"Mr. Stavrus, if you don’t mind, may we know what is this project in advance?" Liam asked with a careful tone.
"The Rawson’s Buildings were planning to make a luxury hotel here in Dhasma." The father and daughter instantly looked at each other with bulging eyes.
"I’ll be making the design for this one and you make everything to the client’s satisfaction. Follow the design and use the best of any materials. Make no mistakes. This is RB. One of our biggest clients ever since."
"I will do everything to make it successful, Mr. Stavrus." Veronika uttered.
"Are you confident enough for this?" Zek had to know if from this point she had enough courage to take everything.
Without hesitation and the woman even looked at him directly. "Yes, I am." There was determination in her eyes and he nodded at her for appreciation.
"Good." He turned to Gandolf and gestured for him again to do the next step. The general took out a dark brown small box from the briefcase and placed it on the table, in front of the woman. "That’s a gift from me. Open it, Ms. Jorda." He demanded with a hand waving for her to take the box.
