The Runaway Huntress
Chapter 81 - 80

Chapter 81: Chapter 80

Chapter 80

She contemplated for a minute as Josh asked her if she knew archery. It was the first thing she learned from her father when he thought it was time for her to learn. He said that he learned it himself in order to hunt for meat in the forest rather than using rifles. And it comes in handy for their hearing also. It’s friendly to their ears.

"Yes." It sounded like a hiss. Her mouth almost didn’t move.

"Show us. No need to settle the target outside. Just use the banners here." Lawrenz stated, and he looked for someone outside. "Gea, can you get us a quiver and bow, please?" He shouted from the other standing by the entrance.

Gea passed the order to one of the trainees.

She maintained her skills in archery by going to an archery center and passing the time there. She’s a great marksman. One of her talents for surviving. It was all honed by hard work, training, and dedication to learning. She doesn’t just want to depend on her physical abilities. And she had been in actual combat for many years, so experience was also her advantage.

After just a minute, the quiver and bow were presented to her. Lorna was standing silently at the side. People were still watching them through the glass window. All eyes were on her. Too much attention. And she felt like the wide, lengthy room was getting smaller and smaller before her. The uneasiness was devouring her system and making her sweat just by standing there.

She took a deep breath as she lifted her hand and took the bow from Josh’s hands. Followed by the arrows from the quiver. She took out three arrows and positioned herself for the targets.

With a solemn face, she pulled the strings and concentrated for each aim at the same time. A bead of sweat slid down the side of her face. Everyone was tensed around her, waiting for the result, whether she failed or not. She breathed another air to fill her lungs. It was getting warmer each second. She wanted to get out there as soon as possible.

She opened her fingers, and the arrows went off to their designated targets. And they were all bullseye. She exhaled a tense breath. Even she was getting nervous. Their eyes were like digging her head.

"I want to rest for a minute." She quickly puts down the bow on the table beside the gun and moves past the trainers. She took quick footsteps towards the door, and she entered the restroom where Lorna pointed earlier.

Everyone was left with loud silence and just followed her until she was gone inside the restroom.

"Wow." Lawrenz shook his head to wake up from the girl’s awesome talent. It seemed like they were all in a trance. Not just from her beauty but also what she can do. He felt like they found a perfect hunter in her.

"That was." Josh was lost for words. He was trying to say something. "She was." But he was obviously struggling. "That was beyond excellent."

"Beyond what anyone expected." Gea joined in as she walked towards the other trainers. But her eyes were glued in the folder that Lawrenz was holding earlier. Melisca’s information. She was reading the rest of the document.

"I’ll go check on her." Lorna stepped out of the room and went to where her friend had gone.

Melisca felt numb all over her skin. She was facing the sink and stared at herself in front of the mirror. She placed both hands on the edges and tried to even her breathing. She was wondering if she did the right thing. Showing off her skills. Fear was slowly creeping up on her. What if people won’t let her off the hook? And because they had a glimpse of her talents, there would be more challenges for her on the field. She had to avoid unnecessary fights.

"Liz?" Lorna called out at the door. Her voice echoed inside the closed wall of the restroom.

She can’t understand what she was feeling right now. She may just be overwhelmed by the events and everyone’s attention. She needed a breath of fresh air, but where can she get that? They were underground.

Ezekiel was sitting by the window. He was looking outside as his hand rubbed his chin. He was in a daze, drowned in his thoughts. The clouds outside might as well represent the blinding confusion in his mind from all the mess and complications. They were in his private jet going to Dhasma City for a lunch meeting in Jorda Mansion. He could have taken his chopper to land directly on top of their destination, but he wasn’t fond of its noise. He only used it for emergencies.

His thoughts went back to his mate. Actually, she was never out of his mind. Where could she be right now? Was she alright? What could she be doing at this moment? He inhaled and released the breath loudly.

Gandolf eyed his king across him. Obvious worry was etched on his face. Whether it’d be about his mate or hunters. He can’t imagine how hard it was for him. Zek kept on changing his sitting position. He seldom sees him this restless and agitated. His alpha king always had it under control. Keeping his face expressionless and unbothered.

"Why didn’t you get her number, alpha?" He decided to start a conversation.

Zek raised his look on his general sitting in front of him. "It went off my mind." His voice was low and guttural.

"So, you don’t have anything to know her whereabouts or how to find her?"

"Don’t remind me, Gandolf." His eyes started to turn as the rage in him were rising. He took a sharp, hard breath. It was heavy and agonizing. He wanted everything to be done. His meeting with the Jordas, his trip to the witches, the battle against the hunters, and then he can have the eternity to pursue Melisca. How he just wanted to skip everything and just burn the path before him to find her. But duty comes first. And since Melisca was out of his reach for now, he had to focus with the Anti-superno then. The drug was in his hands and he should prioritize it.

The pilot announced that they would be landing in a few minutes. He ordered for the male flight attendant with them to serve him his red drink in ice cold. He needed it for heat of the day. He’s a hybrid and the sun doesn’t affect him that much unlike any other vampires, but he still hates it. The blinding glow and the searing heat was never to his liking.

He didn’t have any other entourage with him. Only Gandolf. He doesn’t even need anyone. But for the peace of mind of his pack officers, he approved in bringing one of them. It should have been Argon but he left him a task to do and so that he would work with the remaining company papers.

They finally landed at the airport as finished his drink. Gandolf was to his left, following casually behind. They entered the private passage reserved for people like him. There were only few others around. Mostly in their business or casual suits. And he was in a charcoal grey fitted suit jacket with a white dress shirt underneath. Matching trousers, red neck tie and black leather shoes. For jewelry, a luxury limited edition silver watch in his left wrist and his ruby stone ring in his finger. He paired it with red cufflinks. He styled his medium length, jet black hair in a sleek look over his head. But a few strands were too stubborn to stay in place and it had fallen on his forehead, touching past his brows. He was itching to ran his hand on his hair but it would get messier.

Gandolf behind him was in his formal attire too. Fitting the image of an executive assistant instead of a pack general. Ladies and even some men looked at their direction as they strode the rest of the way towards the car that was waiting for them outside.

He looked at his wristwatch. It’s almost 9:00 am, too early for lunch. He fished his phone from his pockets and dialed Liam. It only rang once before the other line answered.

"Liam, I’m now in Dhasma City."

"What? Mr. Stavrus, everything was almost set for lunch." The frantic tone from the old man. He was too advance for their schedule.

"Don’t worry. I’ll be at your door by 11:30. For now, I want to go see the company. Are you in the area?" They turned a corridor and were now almost at the exit.

"Oh, no. I’m at home, sir to prepare for the lunch. But I’ll be there in a minute."

"It’s fine, Liam. Just stay in the mansion. I just want to take a look around." Then Zek’s footsteps slowed down as he saw someone he very well knew. He fully stopped then as the one he was stunned to met was striding towards them. Liam’s reply went to deaf ears. "See you later." He ended the call and returned the phone to his pockets.

Gandolf stood closer behind his king as they waited for the man to stop in front of them. He exudes with almost the same dangerous aura as Zek.

"Brother." Dravin called out with an excited grin on his pale face. Then he glanced at Gandolf. "General Gandolf."

Gandolf nodded at the guy but he was still on alert for anything. "Prince Dravin."

The two of them wondered what brought him in Dhasma. Dravin was a member of the Blood Court. Very well as Ezekiel. Because his best friend was not only the current king of wolves, but also one of the vampire princes.
