Chapter 54: Chapter 53
Chapter 53
She had to finish them quickly before her chest exploded after holding her breath for some time. This might be a bit of strain for an effort to kill them. She groaned inwardly and was about to sprint, but her body did not move according to her will. Her strength was dissipating gradually. Her supersenses were shrinking to her skin. Eyes returned to black obsidian.
The stance of the man with the spray bottle changed into an easy manner. Spraying more in the air, in her direction. Even from a distance, she felt the change in her system. She waved a hand in front of her, but the air was in their favor as whatever the essence of that chemical was blown on her way. It had an airborne effect. Her chest was constricting for not breathing.
"Huh! No use holding your breath. This is an airborne drug." He sounded smug and confident now that he thought he had the upper hand. "The moment your skin was exposed to it, you would lose your abilities."
Melisca finally allowed her lungs to work properly. Well, as he said, no use holding her breath. Maybe she shouldn’t have taken her mask off. But she did not regret it anyway. The look on their faces was worth the risk, along with their lives. "Fine." She replied and embraced her mortal side. The knife in her hand felt warmer. She was wearing knuckle gloves, but it still radiated to her skin. She tightened her grip on the weapon and prepared her body in a fighting stance. These people were hunters for years. Clearly, they know how to fight by experience. So, she can’t just attack randomly.
The man pulled the trigger on his gun. A syringe was coming her way. She stepped to the side to dodge it. She had to rely on her human reflexes now. The short girl and the other man came on her at once. Oh, now they found the courage to fight back. Needles on their hands.
Though it won’t kill her, it still affects her system if it enters her body. And what if she would be injected multiple times? She didn’t know yet what would happen to her. And with them around, she doesn’t want to find out.
Since she had long legs, she kicked the girl to her stomach as she bent her body to dodge the man’s coming fist on her head. Then she gave him an uppercut instead. With no time to stand up straight, she dived to the ground and rolled to the other side, seeing the gun aiming at her again, and a syringe was released. She barely avoided it. With one knee on the ground, she looked up at her attackers.
The girl stood up, panting. A hand to her abdomen. Her face was wincing. She might have broken a rib or two. Her body was too frail from the impact of the kick. The man was rubbing his jaw, his head shaking. He was dazed from her fist.
"What a damn punch." He hissed at her with an angry stare.
Melisca’s heart was beating rapidly. Adrenaline rushed into her blood. The dagger in her hand was growing warm. Sweat started to trickle down from the side of her face. She evened her breathing, feeling the air around her getting hot. Or could it be it was from her body? She pulled herself up, ready for another round.
She exchanged her gaze between the three. She had to take the man with the gun first, but the two were keeping him out of her reach. Clever. A smile crept to her lips.
The two exchanged glances at each other in front of her, wondering why she was smiling.
It wasn’t every day that she got to fight with her full skills as a human. The wolf side was instantly working with her whenever she engaged in a fight with the super quick reflexes and the rest. But now she only had to give it her all without holding back her natural talent. It was a bit relieving for her. A breath of fresh air that she rarely felt.
The man stepped up to her first. Time for her knife to taste another blood again.
He was quick with his punch coming to her face. But she blocked it with her free hand. Another one of his fists was approaching. She used her dagger to meet his attack, but he changed the stunt by catching her wrist. Wrong move of him. There was still an opening for her dagger. She was able to cut him upward to the side of his forearm, deeply by the edge near the tip of her weapon. He let go of her instantly and retreated. Blood gushed out from the wound, dripping to the ground. He hissed in pain, holding the injured arm. It wasn’t that fatal, but if not treated immediately, he might die of blood loss.
The gun was fired on her way again. Seriously, how many needles can it release before running out? She jumped to the side and got to the girl. In that, the shooter won’t get a clear aim at her. His fellow would be blocking his view. But since the girl couldn’t move swiftly because of the constant pain in her abdomen, it wasn’t much of a struggle then.
The girl was trying to put up a fight, but she couldn’t block her blade. The knife sliced at her palm, blood dripping onto her weapon. To the side of her eyes, she saw the man running to the side to get a clear aim at her. He was very persistent. With that, she grabbed the girl through the hair and made her a barrier to her body. The syringe was injected into the girl’s chest.
"These syringes won’t work for us humans." The shooter announced as he pulled out something from his back pocket and inserted it into the gun. Another batch of needles.
"Oh. But this does." She slashed the girl’s throat with force as her hand pulled the head up. But she did not expect that the blade would cut through the entire neck. Her eyes bulged as the body fell into the dirt and only the head was left on her grip. "Oops. I didn’t mean that." She was only supposed to cut her neck in half, not entirely decapitate her. But the deed was done. There was also a shocked expression on the shooter’s face. He retreated a step with a contorted face in disgust. Blood spilled on the ground from the sliced neck, some organs were falling.
"You monster!" The other man at the side shrieked and attacked with his own sharp object at hand.
She let go of the head and faced the guy. It was a sloppy attack from him. Openly going at her with the needle. She blocked him by smacking her free hand to the side of his wrist. She brought in her knife then straight to the heart. If she attacks, she aims to kill.
With widened eyes, disbelief that a knife was stabbed deep into his beating organ, his face scrunched at her. Before he fell to the ground, she snatched her knife as she pushed him and the body fell with a thud. Still groaned as his own blood were pooling beside him. She doesn’t have to wait for him to die, he would in a minute at max.
Then her body flinched as she felt a tickling pain in her back. She turned around and another shot was released. She dived and rolled on the ground. When she got on one knee, she grabbed her other knife inside the boots and threw it at the guy’s chest. It wasn’t a fatal hit for she staggered on her stance and knew that she would miss the aim. But at least she did manage to hurt him. The dagger was thrust inches below his heart.
