The Runaway Huntress -
Chapter 139 - 138
Chapter 139: Chapter 138
Chapter 138
A surge of coldness blasted in her whole body that made her freeze. All the noises and other concerns around were gone as her senses went numb. What kind of trick was this? Was she already dead that she had been seeing her parents in wherever they were now? Did the hunters kill her in the end?
She couldn’t hear her own heartbeat. Their pounding on the glass walls and cries for her were the only things that were running in her head. Their faces were the same as she’d remembered. As the last time she’d seen them before they were killed.
Nesa looked at the door that was now open; she quickly picked up the gun on the floor. "Melisca, let’s move!" She called, but the woman wasn’t moving at all. Didn’t even flinch in her loud voice. She pointed the gun at the door and was about to shoot those who were coming in. But it was Carmen and the elven prince.
The duo stumbled to the side, and bullets fired through the open door. The hunters had pushed their way in, and the woman that freed them was just standing in the middle, making herself a clear target for anyone.
She fired at the entrance, but they had to take cover from their wave of bullets too. Her leg throbbed again in pain from her quick movements.
"Snap out of it!" She pushed Melisca out of the way for the upcoming bullets. The woman stumbled to one of the tables at the side.
Nesa fell on the floor as the pain worsened and blood was rushing out despite the temporary binding. She hissed from the stinging injury.
Just then Melisca started to move and reached for the gun in Nesa’s hand. She shot at the incoming wave of hunters through the door while she covered for Nesa to crawl away to the side.
She didn’t exactly know what she was doing. Her body was just on automatic mode for fighting. She was just numb, but her system knew that she had to fight. Her survival instincts were kicking in regardless of her absence in focus.
Carmen was fighting with the oncoming hunters, grabbing them to the side and slashing them with her knife. She looked at the prince, whom she left at the wall; she was making sure that no one would get near him.
"We have to leave!" Zavien announced to the girls who were fighting. He was afraid that he couldn’t do anything anymore for them, and he didn’t want them to die if there was a chance to save themselves.
"Not yet!" Carmen replied while cutting a hunter in his throat and threw his body on the floor. Then she moved to the next hunters that surrounded her.
Some turned to Zavien. She couldn’t keep everyone out of his way. He moved and fought them as well. He knew how to fight, but he couldn’t keep up with their endurance as his body was all weak from all the energy he’d released. But he managed to take down some of the enemies.
Melisca exchanged fire with the hunters while switching from place to place to take cover and attack. Nesa was following her even with the injury. She knew the prince was right, but no. She wouldn’t leave until she got her parents back.
She’d stopped moving for a minute to breathe. Goosebumps attacked her body as she’d just realized what happened. Her mind was suddenly in a daze. Her parents were alive.
They’realive. MomandDadarealive.
She felt the chills pulsing in her skin. The question of how it happened slipped from her thoughts. The important thing was that they were alive, and she would get them out. No matter what.
A tear wanted to escape from her eyes, but she blinked it back. She didn’t have time to be emotional right now. She had to focus. All the questions and doubts in her head could be answered later when they were out of danger.
Then an explosion from the door boomed in the entire room. It even shook the floor. Smoke bombs were thrown everywhere. Quick footsteps barged in the room.
"It’s ABD!" Carmen exclaimed near the double doors that were now fully open.
So, that was why they were using it. The hunters continuously proved their creativity in making such weapons for the supernaturals. Just goddamn great!
Melisca felt it through her skin and even in her lungs how potent the ABD was. Her chest was aching. Her heart pounding louder, giving her palpitations. She glanced at Nesa, who was leaning against the cabinets under the table that they were hiding from the bullets. The woman didn’t look any better. She was clutching her chest, and blood was leaking from her wound.
Enemy reinforcements were barging in from both ends of the aisle. They were getting surrounded by unending hunters.
Carmen pulled Zavien out of the crossfire that was happening. This time it wasn’t bullets anymore but the Anti-Superno. There were only random gunshots they were hearing.
They were running down an aisle while ducking their heads. Carmen stumbled on her feet as she felt a prickling ache in some spots in her back. And a stinging pain that was from a gunshot to her side. Zavien caught her before she fell face-first on the ground. She doesn’t have any strength to move as three needles are attached to her skin and a bullet that did another hole in her flesh again.
Zavien pulled out the needles that struck her and threw them on the floor. He made her sit on the ground to lean against one of the cabinets. But Carmen couldn’t move her body. She was paralyzed from the poison. She slid to the side, but he caught her again, and he gently guided her body on the marbled floor to lie down.
Carmen was hitching for her breath. She could feel that her heart wanted to fight the poison. She was shot thrice and her wound was making a pool of blood on the ground from her side.
He touched her hand and Carmen instantly felt the cold sensation of his magic that flowed from her fingers to the other part of her body. But then she winced and grunted.
"It... hurts..." She croaked. Burning poison and cold healing energy was colliding in her system, crashing and punching to win over the other.
Zavien was confused why it was happening but he came to think that the poison was fighting his magic. It would really hurt.
"Stop." Her voice was hoarse. She wanted to move her hand to make him stop but she couldn’t even lift a finger.
Zavien then felt a sting on his shoulder. He winced but he didn’t want to stop healing her. He could do it. He could save her. But as he looked at her face that was getting paler in every second, he had to do more.
He swallowed hard upon making a decision that could risk his life and hers. It was like they were already at the edge of a cliff, enemies behind them, and a torrent of water was down below. Either it could save them or end them instead. But it was the only chance they had.
Zavien removed his hand on top of hers and he scooted closer, kneeling beside her. He placed a palm on the floor, an inch from her face. He hovered over her, wanting to look at her directly in the eyes. She had such mesmerizing eyes. A storm that was coming and brewing dangerously but he was drawn to it. A beautiful disaster indeed.
"What’s your name?" He had to get her name for he was risking both their lives.
Carmen frowned and her eyes turned into slits.
Whydoeshewantmyname?
Giving a faerie’s real name to anyone was like giving power over them. They would be at that someone’s beck and call. They would be bounded to them until the summoner say so. They’d only be free of their command when they said the word of freeing them. Or she gave it to another person and she would be automatically free from the former summoner. So, giving her name was the very last thing she’d do. And why did he think that she’d reveal it to him?
But it seemed like she was about to die after all. So what was the use of saying it or not...
Dark spots were dancing in her vision. If the poison wouldn’t kill her, then her gun wound would finish her no doubt. She was losing too much blood. Her eyelids were getting heavier. But gazing at one of the most beautiful being on Earth before her eyes closed was the only thing that lightened her situation and was easing her bad luck.
"Tell me, faerie." Zavien urged. She was about to lose consciousness. But he wanted leverage for the bargain that he was about to make.
