The Rise of the Black Plain -
Chapter 79 - 79: Leaving for the Spiritual Tournament
Dawn slowly arrived in Dry City as Minos and Ruth got ready to leave. But this time, it was determined that only the two would travel to the Cromwell Kingdom as the journey was too long, and Minos' soldiers would no longer be of help in protecting him.
And with Minos almost reaching level 37, if there was something that he couldn't handle, his soldiers definitely couldn't handle it either. Of course, a large group could indeed offer help, but that would only delay them and even create some problems.
That way, traveling alone would help the two maintain a low profile and also move faster.
And during this period of Minos' absence, Butler Dillian would be in charge of Dry City. Meanwhile, the two youths who were in the Spatial Kingdom all this long had now also returned to their families. Both had taken advantage of the training time and once again managed to increase their level.
It would not be long before the two would have a significant role within the Black Plain Army, given their rapid progress.
In the past few weeks, the harvest had been collected and sent to the army base on the coast of the Black Plain. Minos only hoped that his products would start selling within a week on Stone Island.
According to his calculations, it wouldn't be long before Elen sent their payment, which would allow the expansion of Dry City. As a result of this, Minos was very eager to go to and return from the Cromwell Kingdom and then observe all the changes that would have taken place in his territory during his absence.
After all, the goods produced here would be sold for more than twice the price he charged within his own territories. So, the thought of all the possibilities where many problems could be taken care of with these extra crystals was pretty exciting for him!
Finally, Minos and Ruth decided to leave the city as soon as the daylight broke.
Moving at this time would be better for them since the first town that appeared after Dry City was almost a full day's travel away, and with that, they could stop for a while to rest at that place.
...
Currently, Minos and Ruth were on the southern side of the town, bidding their farewell to Butler Dillian and a few other members of the Dry City government, with a large eagle having white feathers and a yellow beak waiting for them just a few steps away from them.
"Have a nice trip, young master. I hope you do well in the Spiritual Tournament," Secretary Mia said with a smile on her face.
Pyke chuckled and added, "Hehe, considering the strength of our young master, I doubt if anyone is his match!"
He then continued, "But young master, how long will you be gone for?"
"I think it should take about four months, more or less. The Spiritual Tournament will take place exactly three months from now, and after that, I still have to travel for almost another month to return here," Minos replied as he looked around and thought about the trip.
According to Ruth, their journey would last for three weeks before they arrived there, but he was unsure about the specifics of the trip. After all, he would prefer to go a little slower while taking time to train rather than running nonstop to the Cromwell Kingdom's capital.
"It is a really long time..." Dillian remarked with a thoughtful expression. "But this is also a good opportunity for you, young master."
After bidding farewell to all of them, Ruth and Minos climbed onto the great white eagle's back. Standing over a height of over 2 meters, the eagle could easily carry up to 3 people without any discomfort.
As they settled on the eagle, Minos noticed a small space where he and Ruth could sit. The young woman then said with a smile on her face, "You can sit behind me, but don't try anything funny!"
"Hmm, it's okay," Minos replied, taking his seat. Soon after, the bird leaped forward and started soaring toward the south of the Black Plain.
When that happened, Minos, who had no experience with flying spiritual beasts, was startled and instinctively grasped onto Ruth's waist.
"Hey! What are you doing?" Ruth asked with a blush on her face while feeling Minos' arms around her. They had already flown for a few hundred meters, but the young Stuart had never released her.
"I'm just holding on to you. Where else can I do that? Your eagle is fast, and I'm not used to it." Minos explained with a wry smile on his face.
'Hmph, just apologies...'
Minos then changed the topic and asked curiously, "Ruth, about those three weeks of travel that you mentioned, are we going to travel slowly or only going stop to rest?"
"We'll only be stopping to rest. Don't you think we're already too late?"
"No, I think we still have too much time. We are going to do this journey gradually. I don't want to stop training for three weeks just to arrive earlier in the capital of the Cromwell Kingdom."
Minos had a good reason to do this. His Golden-grade techniques, along with being more efficient, not only required more skill but also demanded a greater understanding for him to advance to the next phase.
He needed to train his techniques for longer than other people with lower-grade techniques. Therefore, Minos didn't want to stop his training for three whole weeks just because of a tournament that he didn't need to win!
His main goal was to make some important contacts, and his active participation in the competition itself was just secondary. As the tournament would only serve to test his strength.
"Hmph, I know that you're powerful, but you are taking this too lightly. Look at me, I am 18 years old, and I am already at level 45.
However, I won't be participating in this competition since I am already a member of a sect of the Flaming Empire. Still, there might be others like me in this competition.
While having a Silver or even Black talent, we don't need to rely on outside help to get to the 5th stage. There are many people who don't care about that and also about the fact that pills always leave toxins in our bodies.
And as a result, some people will use everything they have to raise their level quickly."
That was a fact in the world of cultivation. Those with high talent generally avoided taking pills or spiritual medicines at the early cultivation levels since consuming them resulted in a delayed effect at higher levels.
When someone consumes a spiritual pill, some impurities are left in that cultivator's body. However, the cleansing that the body would receive during the initial stages from advancing between stages was minimal, making it unable to eliminate all these toxins.
The most immediate result of this was that these impurities that get collected within the body would hinder the speed of cultivation and even weaken the strength of such individuals.
That would be akin to someone who cannot perform at his maximum potential during a race because he has the flu or another illness that limits them from exerting all their strength. That is why intelligent cultivators like Minos and Ruth knew that if they wanted to go further, it was necessary to be calm.
They would refrain from using pills or spiritual medicines until they reached their first bottlenecks in cultivation!
But not everyone was aware of this or cared about it.
In a region like the north of the Central Continent, a cultivator with Silver talent could rapidly reach the Spiritual King stage before turning 23 if they used external resources.
And being a region dominated by people at that stage, some individuals were in a hurry to reach level 50, thus resorting to these non-recommended methods.
"I know that. You don't have to worry about that, Ruth. I am not going to try to be the champion. And, of course, I'm going to fight seriously in the tournament, but that is not my main objective," Minos said in a solemn voice as he continued holding Ruth's waist.
Ruth had already gotten used to Minos' arms at this point, or rather, she had learned to overlook it. She replied, "You have problems with my master, and she believes that by sending you to this tournament, you will learn how big the world is. Don't you want to prove that she is wrong?"
Ruth said this provocatively, curious to see if Minos would be swayed by this and strive harder to win the Spiritual Tournament. After all, Minos was still a 16-year-old, and having impulsive behavior was common at this age...
Minos shook his head, and instead of answering her, he asked, "So, will she be watching this competition?"
"Hmm, I don't think so. The sect usually sends a Spiritual King to do the recruitment work. Sending someone as my teacher would not be worth it."
"So, if I win, I won't have the satisfaction of proving to her that she was wrong. Hehe, it makes no difference," Minos responded provocatively.
He understood very well what Ruth was trying to do, but it wasn't going to work for him. Of course, he had his problems with his mother, but that wouldn't make him do stupid mistakes, just so that he could prove something to someone he didn't even respect!
"Ah! You are very boring," Ruth complained in a low voice when she realized that Minos was not going to fall into her trap.
...
Several hours passed quickly.
And while the sun was already setting on the horizon, Minos and Ruth were approaching the first city on their path since they had left Dry City.
