Chapter 82. Split Personality
Chapter 82: 82. Split Personality
"So you want a method for healing the meridians," Lily Gomes said, pouring two cups of tea. "But doesn’t our sect have one?"
"I want a non-cruel method," Tyler replied, taking a sip of the tea. He was now sitting in Lily’s office.
"But I don’t have one—aaahhh." Suddenly, she held her head, wincing in pain.
"Are you alright?" Tyler stood up, concerned.
"Don’t mind her. I do have the method," Lily said. This time, her demeanour felt quite different.
"Are you Ms. Lily Gomes?" Tyler asked in confusion.
"Oh yeah. It’s a long story. But to cut it short, I have multiple personalities. My personality is Detective. Her personality is... Defective," she explained, shaking her head in resignation.
Tyler didn’t know what multiple personalities were, so Lily explained a little. It meant a mental health condition where one has two or more separate personalities that control their behaviour at different times.
"Did you get a job?" Lily asked.
"Nope. Not yet," Tyler replied, but he had a bad feeling about where this was going.
"With the look on your face, it seems like you already guessed. Yep, work for me, and the method to restore meridians is yours," Lily said.
Tyler considered her offer. Working for Lily Gomes could be beneficial in many ways, not just for the meridian healing method but also because getting a job in Law Enforcement was very hard. Lily was a detective under the Investigation Department, which was under Law Enforcement.
"What kind of work would I be doing?" Tyler asked cautiously.
"Babysitting," Lily murmured.
"I heard you," Tyler said, rolling his eyes.
"Hehehe. Investigative work, mostly. You’ll be helping me solve cases, gathering information, and handling various tasks. Even the patrol department will dare not touch you," Lily explained. "Also, some cases don’t need to be cracked soon. So you will get lots of free time too."
Lily was really hoping Tyler would join her. She didn’t know when her other personality would offend some people that she shouldn’t and get thrown into the sea.
Tyler weighed his options.
"Alright, I’ll do it," Tyler agreed. Since he decided, he would never regret it.
"Do what? Let me tell you, pretty face. You can have my body but not my heart." Lily’s defective personality popped out.
Or maybe not. He was already regretting it a little.

**Work Register Office**
The Work Register Office is where disciples register their job or their business. After getting a job or starting a business, they simply have to register it down as a record. It’s also a place where many jobs are posted. There are also tasks posted on the wall. Anyone can accept and complete them for rewards.
"Why do I feel everyone is looking at me?" Tyler asked.
"They are not looking at you; they are looking at me. I am very popular. Look, I will show you." Lily waved her hands at a group of official disciples. "Hey gays, I mean – Guys."
"Oh no... It’s Lily Gomes. RUN." They ran like they saw a monster.
"Oh, they are just too shy." Lily laughed.
Tyler understood why everyone was avoiding her like a plague.
"Ahhh... Lily Gomes." The Elder in the office looked surprised. Tyler was even more surprised because even the Elders were wary of her.
"I am here to register my new assistant," Lily said.
"You got another assistant? Who is that poor fellow?" He looked at Tyler, who was standing behind Lily, with pity in his eyes. He wanted to ask why but didn’t care.
"Alright. Enough with the chit-chat, Elder. Give me the register." She turned around and said, "You have the identity token, right? Take it out."
After finishing the procedure, Lily gave Tyler a token that said ’Investigation Department’ and shook his hand. "Welcome to hell, I mean – wait... I don’t know any rhyming words suitable for this. Well anyways, welcome."
"Hey, since we are already here, let’s see if there are any investigation tasks." Lily said with excitement as she dragged Tyler to the task area.
She didn’t even glance at the tasks pasted on the wall and went to the small patrol section, where patrol disciples took breaks.
"Guess who?" She smiled as she entered. Soon after, many patrol disciples were running away from that building.
The few who couldn’t run because they had duty there could only strengthen their resolve and face her.
"I wonder if there are any tasks?" she said as she looked at the task book records.
"Huh... I don’t think there are any tasks available. Maybe one, like - cat gone missing tasks." The person said while trying to hide a sheet of paper.
"Oh look, it’s a fox lady from Pleasure Hall." She pointed to one side.
"Where?" The man turned around while hiding the paper even more carefully.
Bang
He was knocked onto the desk by Lily’s fist.
"Ouch.. Why did you use your head to knock my fist?" She shook her head.
Tyler just watched everything like an outsider. ’I don’t know her. I am just passing by.’
"Oh look, I found a task sheet." She grabbed the sheet from the man’s hand. He held it firmly while pretending to be asleep.
"Does this sleeping man want to knock his wrist on my knife?" She asked Tyler. The man immediately loosened his grip and let the paper be taken.
She glanced at it a little.
"Great! It’s a murder." She shouted enthusiastically, then thought it wasn’t appropriate and said, "*cough* oh no, it’s a murder. White, let’s go and investigate."
"No, wait. The person who posted this specifically requested not to show it to you," he said.
"Since when did Law Enforcement become a place that listens to other people yapping? I am going to enforce the law and bring justice. If someone requests the same thing again, just tell them I will prioritise that first," she said while leaving.
"Yeah, you are righ- Hey, wait. I think you are missing the point," he shouted.
"And you are missing a purpose... in your life." He only got that reply back from Lily.

Tyler followed Lily out of the office, trying to keep up with her brisk pace. "So, what’s the case about?" he asked.
Lily handed him the task sheet. "It says a body was found in the servant quarters. No witnesses, no suspects yet. This will be a good first case for you. Just follow me and observe my brilliance."
They made their way to that place. There are lots of servant disciples on the floating island. There are lots of servant quarters too.
They saw some disciples already standing at the entrance.
Lily immediately took charge. "Alright, everyone, step back and give us some space. We’re here to investigate."
"Another investigation officer?"
" I thought we already have one"
"There is always competition in almost everything." The crowd murmured, they made their way when they saw Lily’s token.
"Oh no, it’s Detective Lily Gomes." One of the people said which made others panic.
"Sup guys, where is the body?" Lily Gomes asked.
"Huh... You are standing on it." Another one pointed it out
"Eww.. that’s why the floor felt crunchy " Lily Gomes took a step back.
Tyler just turned around and wanted to run away. But Lily’s small hand grabbed his shoulder and dragged him back.
"Let’s do it." she gave a thumbs up in an encouraging tone.
She crouched down and looked at the body. It’s the body of a middle aged man.
"There are some heavy foot prints on his body. Someone stomped on him?" Lily tilted her head.
Tyler covered his face in embarrassment and said, "That’s your footprints."
"Hehe... I was just testing you." She laughed it off.
She checked the body for any signs of struggle or identifiable marks and scanned the surrounding for clues. She even sniffed at the corpse. Even though she is dumb, he was still impressed by her thoroughness.
"Did you guys find any trace of Aura?" She asked the patrol guards who already checked everything.
"Nope. Either the killer is good at dissipating or he is yet to become a Novice warrior." Even though Lily is problematic, the guard answered her question.
"Probably a normal person. There is a weird smell coming from his mouth. The person is poisoned. The killer might have done it for personal vengeance. Since the poison could have killed the victim, he might have watched him suffer while sitting here." Lily said that she didn’t even turn into a detective personality. Tyler understood how Lily was still keeping her job.
Tyler understood why Lily reached that conclusion. She stood near the bed. And took a small cloth that is attached at the edge.
"But the room was closed from the inside. Even the windows too." One of the investigators said. He doesn’t like the fact that Lily found a clue just after entering.
Lily thought for a second and went inside. Tyler was fully impressed by her capabilities.
"Guys, You better come see this. There is another body." They heard her voice.
The patrol guards walked in with surprise.
Patrol Guard : "Nope... That’s the victim’s grandma. "
Lily : Oh.. ohhh (・o・)
Tyler : ...
