The Return Of the Invincible Heiress -
Chapter 98
Chapter 98: Chapter 98
It was half past six. Avery approached the cruise restaurant’s top floor in high heels. She was wearing a floral dress. She immediately saw Alexander standing against the railing with his back facing her. He was dressed in a well-fitting black suit. He had a noble temperament and an elegant bearing. His long legs were especially eye-catching. His charm was astounding.
Avery felt like drawing him.
Alexander seemed to be telepathic. As soon as she appeared, he turned around. He had a faint smile. The setting sun shone on him, outlining his frame in golden hues. He was godlike. Avery quickened her pace while she marveled at how he looked.
Alexander thought she looked like a goddess. He held the back of the chair with both hands and gently pulled it back.
"Please have a seat."
Avery sat down and looked at Alexander’s handsome face. He was so strikingly gorgeous. She then stared at his shaved head.
"Your hair seems to have grown out a little?"
Alexander sat down and leaned over. "Do you want to touch it?"
"Yes."
Avery immediately reached out and placed her hand on top of his head. His short hair pricked her hand and made her heart itch.
Louis was peeping at them from the side. He silently cheered Alexander on. He looked like he was about to cry. Yet another physical contact.
Alexander allowed Avery to touch his head again.
Louis swore he would no longer watch any romance dramas or read any romance novels if the two did not get together soon.
Avery said, "Your hair grows very fast. When your hair grows even longer, I will miss your shaved head."
Alexander smiled. "If you like, I can always shave my head and wear a wig when necessary."
Avery chuckled. "No need. You’ll look good with longer hair too."
The atmosphere became lighter. The dishes were also served consecutively.
Alexander raised his glass. "Thank you for the crime scene investigation report. It’s useful. I know where to start looking now."
Avery raised her glass. "How do you plan to investigate?"
Alexander sipped his champagne. "It must have occurred to you too. The drone costs over twenty thousand dollars. It is only available on the official website. It can’t be bought with cash anywhere else."
There was a pause before he continued. "I’ve already asked someone to trace all the purchase records, track down all the buyers, and find out who’s related to my sister or the Moran family."
Avery nodded. "Based on my experience and intuition, if the murderer is a woman, it might be related to relationship problems."
She then added wistfully, "Also, I don’t think a female killer could have done so much. She probably had help from other accomplices."
That was why Avery liked to talk to Alexander. There was a tacit understanding between them. There was no need to explain too much to the other party.
"Great minds think alike," Alexander said with admiration. He had the same thought.
Alexander said, "I suspect one person was responsible for finding and bribing the truck driver. Another person paid for it. A third person installed explosives on the driver and the truck. Another person used a drone to capture the car accident."
He paused momentarily before saying, "Of course, there aren’t necessarily four murderers, but there should be more than two."
Avery nodded and asked curiously, "With all these clues, could you narrow in on the suspects?"
Alexander turned the glass in his hand. His gaze was bottomless. "There are many people with various motives. I once came up with a long list."
He shook his head before continuing. "It’s just that I can’t think of a single female murderer linked to relationship problems."
Avery blinked. "Why? If it involves romance, it should be easier to identify the suspect."
She then waved her hand. "Oh, it’s alright if you don’t say anything since it’s your sister’s privacy."
Alexander did not speak immediately. He passed Avery her favorite food before pouring more champagne for her. His voice was low as he said, "There’s no information for me to hold back. The media has already exposed all my sister’s relationships."
He said, "My sister was twenty years old when she broke up with the popular singer, Mavis King, and married the heir of the top cruise company in the industry."
He sighed. "Mavis passed away three years later. My sister got a divorce using her husband’s infidelity as an excuse. She swore she would never marry again. She successfully divorced him and devoted herself wholeheartedly to her work."
Alexander looked at her. "You were still young then, so you probably wouldn’t have paid attention to such entertainment gossip."
"I have an impression of what happened," Avery recalled. "At that time, I idolized your sister. She was astonishingly beautiful and capable. Despite being young, she managed such a big company so well."
She then pursed her lips. "At that time, like many people, I felt her ex-husband had poor taste in women. He didn’t know how to appreciate his wife, but he fell in love with a female celebrity who was a money-grubber and had past scandals with wealthy men. She even ended up bearing a male child with him."
She shut up abruptly. "I’m sorry. I said too much."
All these matters were Lucy’s privacy. She should not say it in front of Alexander.
Alexander smiled. "I was the one who asked you to treat my sister and help me investigate the murderer. I should let you in on matters about my sister and me."
Louis had reminded him that their relationship could only take another step forward by being honest with each other.
In particular, he felt they had a close relationship as they knew each other’s secrets. Alexander felt that it was special. He knew Avery’s secret, and Avery knew his.
"I was eight when my mother fell off the building and died. My sister was eighteen at that time. She was studying abroad."
The light in his eyes dimmed as if dark clouds were forming inside them. His blank eyes looked like the lights in the world were off, leaving only endless darkness.
His gaze and low voice enthralled Avery. It was as if he had crossed the river of memories and was trapped in the past.
"Our family’s rule is that only the legal descendants are qualified to be inheritors. I’m my father’s only legitimate son. I have an illegitimate elder brother and an illegitimate younger brother. They’re all ambitious."
His brows furrowed as he continued, "After my mother’s accident, there were rumors everywhere that my father was preparing to have his second marriage."
He paused before saying, "If she gave birth to a son, he would undoubtedly become the legitimate son. He would become a huge threat."
Alexander’s gaze landed on Avery’s flawless face after looking through the golden champagne in the transparent glass.
He said, "My sister and I don’t care about that. However, my mother married my father when the Moran Group was in a financial crisis. She played a big role in helping the Moran Group escape from the crisis."
His eyebrows furrowed again. "She died an unexplained death. My sister and I must seek justice for her. Even if my sister and I had no plans to fight with them, the others might still not let us off."
At that point, his gaze darkened.
He sighed. "When I was eight, there was nothing I could do then. My sister only took half a year to complete her studies in advance and joined the Moran Group. She wanted to protect me and seek justice for our mother."
Avery listened quietly and sighed in her heart.
Mavis’s songs were timeless. Many singers still covered his songs. His relationship with Lucy was still a hot topic in the media and was discussed fervently by netizens.
Everyone felt sympathetic towards the unfated lovers. Mavis’s sudden and untimely death at the height of his popularity was even more lamentable.
Alexander looked at Avery and asked, "Do you know why my mother left all her shares to my sister and not me?"
