The Return Of the Invincible Heiress -
Chapter 133
Chapter 133: Chapter 133
Alexander was indifferent to Louis’s admiration. However, the way he looked at the champagne softened, as if he saw Avery. His voice was elegant and gentle, carrying a faint sweetness.
"Miss Carter is only eighteen years old. There’s still a long way until her graduation from university. There’s no need to rush. Before the time comes, I want to divert the attention of the Moran and Powell families. I can’t let them notice Miss Carter."
"Okay!" Louis replied with admiration. "I will definitely do my best to follow your plan and protect your love with Miss Carter!"
Why did Mr. Moran mention Miss Carter’s graduation? Of course, it was because he knew she would not consider marriage before graduating from university. Mr. Moran is so thoughtful! Louis thought. None of the actors I’ve seen in dramas and romance novels can compare to him.
Alexander turned to look out of the window. His handsome face revealed a suspicious faint red. He said calmly, "Cut the crap. Hurry up and make the arrangements."
"Okay." Louis turned around and left proudly. After taking a few steps, he suddenly thought of something and turned back. He said seriously, "Whether you like it or not, I still have to tell you: Avery might not want to become rich. Becoming rich might not be a good thing for her either. So, secretly helping the Carter family isn’t necessarily a gift."
"I know." Alexander turned his head and met his gaze. "I just gave them a chance. It’s up to them whether they take it or not. If they make a name for themselves one day, that’s their own ability—it has nothing to do with me."
Louis nodded, very satisfied with Alexander’s attitude. "If you think so, you’re worthy of Miss Carter," he said.
At that moment, the sun had already risen, casting its light on Alexander’s slightly red face. It also shone on Avery’s reluctant expression. She sat in the car and waved at Jaden.
"Jaden, goodbye. I’ll send you a message when I get home."
Jaden stood by the roadside and waved back. "Alright, see you next time."
Avery retracted her gaze and drove onto the bridge. The road was crowded with cars, and she admired the scenery as she drove. Suddenly, a familiar dark green BMW sped past her. Although she couldn’t clearly see the driver, she had recently seen such an eye-catching car.
Could it be that scheming Linda has chased Jaden here? she wondered. It’s completely possible.
Without hesitation, Avery crossed the bridge. At the next intersection, she made a U-turn and quickly found the dark green BMW parked in a lot near the bridgehead. There was no one inside. Linda has probably found Jaden and is pestering him, she thought.
Avery parked, grabbed her tablet, and searched for shade. Soon, she spotted two people sitting under a large tree: Jaden and Linda. They sat facing each other at a stone table. Jaden looked calm, while Linda seemed agitated, shaking her head and waving her hands.
Avery quietly approached and hid behind another tree, observing.
Linda covered her face with her hands as tears flowed between her fingers. "When I went to the wedding venue, I fell asleep in the car. When I woke up, I was in an unfamiliar room in another city. My mother and brothers were watching over me.
"My mother said our family owed hundreds of thousands of dollars and wanted me to marry a rich man to repay the debt. But I’d rather die! They took my phone and sealed the window. I couldn’t escape even if I wanted to. I screamed until my throat was raw, but no one came to save me... The text you received was sent by my mother using my phone without my permission."
Lowering her hands, she revealed her tear-streaked face to Jaden. He looked at her silently, his expression unreadable—no joy, no anger, no sorrow. It was as if he were watching a poorly acted drama.
Linda continued, oblivious to his reaction. "I went on a hunger strike and nearly starved to death. They force-fed me when I was too weak. I pretended to agree with them to plan an escape but got caught again."
She pulled up her sleeves. "This is the result of my resistance."
Old scars lined her wrists. Jaden’s eyes flickered, but he said nothing.
Hugging herself, Linda’s voice trembled. "To force me to submit, they drugged my water with sleeping pills. When I woke up... a man was beside me..." She broke into sobs, covering her face again.
I thought about dying, she continued, but my mother said if I did, the entire family would suffer. I had no choice but to agree to the marriage...
Her voice cracked. "Jaden, can you forgive me? If you don’t... I—"
Before she could finish, Avery stepped out from behind the tree, threw a small stone at Linda, and shouted, "You liar! B***h! After doing something so shameless, how dare you act pitiful in front of us? How shameless!"
Jaden blinked, startled. "Avery? Why are you here?"
Avery raised a hand, signaling him to stay quiet. She placed her tablet on the table and opened a series of photos.
"It’s all lies!" she snapped at Linda. "You weren’t drugged, forced, or locked up! Yes, your family took you away at the wedding, but not to imprison you. They wanted you to see how wealthy Bush Miller is."
Without letting Linda speak, Avery continued, "Bush is thirty years older than you, a contractor with a net worth of over 300 million dollars. He’s been married twice—one ex-wife took three children, the second died, leaving two kids.
"If you marry him, he promised houses for your brothers, a villa worth ten million, a luxury car, and a will splitting assets after his death."
Zooming in on the photos, Avery sneered, "Here’s your marriage certificate with Bush. This is your wedding photo—look at that smile, dripping with jewels! Here’s Bush taking you on vacation, and this—your posts flaunting wealth on social media.
"Tell me, do you look like someone forced into marriage or suffering?"
