The Reborn Wife Of The Tyrant CEO -
Chapter 286 - 282
Chapter 286: Chapter 282
They gradually moved away. I couldn’t catch what Ariel and Nick said afterward
I was in shock, in disbelief.
At this point, Aaron asked me over the phone, "Enough?"
"Enough. Thanks a lot," I snapped back to reality. "I’ll treat you and All to coffee after New Year"
Aaron chuckled, "No worries."
Luckily, Ariel and Nick didn’t recognize Aaron. Even if they had met, she wouldn’t remember him. So, I got to hear that earlier remark.
The one who drugged Nicole was Nick?!
That was some serious crap pulled by Nick. He orchestrated the whole thing and pinned it all on Nicole. But Nicole was just as sneaky, so it was some kind of karma.
Nicole’s loyalty to Ariel was just too much. She was practically her slave, and Ariel used her as a pawn.
Ariel sacrificed Nicole just to attract people upstairs to see her in the same room with Damon, trying to tie herself with Damon in the public opinion...
Ariel was still cold hearted. If she could use someone, she didn’t give a damn who they were or how good they were to her.
As Ariel and Nick disappeared. I finally stepped out of my hiding spot. My original intention was to find out who was slandering me online, but I still had no answer.
Was it Scarlett? Or Ariel or Nick?
I had a gut feeling they were in cahoots. There could only be two reasons, they were after me or Damon.
But would Ariel target Damon? In that photo, she and Damon looked like a couple
I felt like I was walking into a fog, lost. The issues I had to face were one after another, making me a total mess.
I have no idea how I got out of there. When I got home, Damon was in the living room reading a magazine. The moment I entered, he looked at me, and with his eyes sharp, he asked, "Where have you been?"
I didn’t answer, just quietly changing my shoes, then taking off my coat and scarf and tossing them on the couch.
"Talk" Damon’s eyebrows furrowed slightly, his voice cold. ’Don’t tell me you went to see Jones again."
"Damon, where were you last night?" My lips moved slightly, my eyes glued to Damon.
Damon’s eyes squinted. He looked at me for a few seconds, then said casually, "I was at the company. By the way, now that you’ve brought your mom back, don’t go out too often. Without his moms restraint, I don’t know what Jones might do."
Even though Jones’s father was still around, he wasn’t as controlling as his mother.
"Oh," I felt a heavy weight in my heart. Although the living room was warm, it felt colder than the snow outside, "I got it."
I got up, forcing a smile, "Will you keep your promise?"
"I will," Damon answered without hesitation.
There was an awkward silence between us, but neither of us broke it. I picked up the little mastiff puppy at my feet and silently went upstairs.
I didn’t mention the photo or the conversation between Ariel and Nick to Damon.
I went into my mom’s room, wanting to talk, but she couldn’t respond.
Just when I was feeling down, Damon quietly stood at the door. He asked, "You still haven’t told me. Where did you go?"
"I didn’t go anywhere, and it’s my business. Can’t I even go out?" I retorted
"Jones Isn’t as great as you think. He’s just like me. No matter what he says, don’t believe him, okay?" Damon walked in, his face relaxed.
He glanced at my mom on the bed, then gently touched my head, "All you need to do is trust me, okay?"
His words were so Ironic. I trusted him, but he always had something to hide.
I didn’t reject Damon. Just quietly asked, "Will Nick start working at Coleman Co’s headquarters? What position are you planning for him?"
"Why do you suddenly care about this?" Damon sensed something off, looking puzzled.
Judging by Nick’s actions, I could almost confirm that he was a cunning and ruthless person. Everything Luna and I had guessed could be true. I just didn’t know why he did it.
I should’ve warned Damon, but a strange thought popped up, making me swallow back my words.
"It’s nothing. I just thought of Nicole. She, like me, is now the target of public criticism. Didn’t Nick break up with her? I thought after they broke up. Nick would choose to leave." I found an excuse.
"No. He will stay in the city." Damon replied.
I nodded and didn’t say anything else. I wouldn’t tell Damon about what Nick did, nor would I call the police. It was their private matter, it had nothing to do with me.
Seeing me not talking, Damon sat down next to me. He lightly stroked the little mastiff puppy in my arms. His hand was as beautiful as always, slender and strong.
I silently handed the little mastiff puppy to Damon.
"Has Zoe been looking for you recently?" I changed the topic.
"It doesn’t matter whether she looks for me," Damon answered indifferently, obviously not really caring.
I remembered Zoe’s recent posts on social media. One was complaining about her dad setting her up on blind dates. My gut told me she did it on purpose, for Damon to see.
The way a woman’s mind works was simple yet not simple, complex yet not complex.
I closed my mouth, not wanting to say more
Just then, Hannah came to tell us dinner was ready, so I went down to eat first.
Tomorrow would be Jones’s mother’s funeral. Neither Damon nor I planned to attend. I sent a message to Luna and the gang, asking them to convey my condolences
"I ain’t going back! I’m broke!" Suddenly, Hannah’s voice resonated from the living room. Even though she was obviously trying to keep it down, I still heard her.
She was kinda worked up but still holding it together. Then, all of a sudden, she started sobbing, "Joshua’s gone now. Isn’t my family’s situation crappy enough? What the hell do you want me to do?!"
I walked over, grabbed her phone, and hung up the call right away.
