The Reborn Wife Of The Tyrant CEO -
Chapter 285 - 281
Chapter 285: Chapter 281
That night, I had no idea where Damon had vanished off to, and he wasn’t responding to my calls either.
I found myself staring at the falling snow outside the window, and before I knew it, I dozed off, swamped with anxiety and confusion.
I wasn’t sure how long I had been asleep. Suddenly, my phone buzzed. I looked at it groggily, then snapped wide awake. It was a call from Jones
"Can we meet?" Jones was the first to speak. His voice was raspy and sounded incredibly weary.
"Jones, about your moms passing, I’m sorry for your loss." I was a bit wary of Jones, so I trod lightly, being extra polite. Even though I wanted to grill him with questions, I held back
Jones was silent for a few seconds before resuming, "I want to meet you to clear things up."
I didn’t want to meet him. There was no need to stir up more drama, "We can talk over the phone."
"You know, I want to see you," Jones’s voice turned firm, "Don’t you want to know why Damon and Ariel were in that room?"
That was exactly what I wanted to know. Damon said it was all Jones’s doing, but what was the truth?
Of course, Jones wasn’t exactly reliable now, and he could have been lying.
I didn’t respond immediately, I took a moment to think.
Jones spoke again, "You know why I proposed to Scarlett. Now my mom is gone; I’m calling off the engagement"
"What?" I was taken aback, and I hadn’t expected Jones to take such a drastic step. His mom had just passed away, and he had already planned on breaking his engagement.
"This isn’t the life I want. I just wanted my mom to be at peace before she passed. Now that she’s gone, I don’t have anything to hold me back." Jones seemed to have made up his mind.
"Jones, calm down. Everyone knows you’re engaged to Scarlett. If you break it off right after your mom’s death, what about Scarlett? And your dad, he definitely won’t agree with this". I tried to reason with him.
But my attempts fell on deaf ears.
Jones’s voice tuned stem, "You don’t need to advise me. I won’t let anyone control my life, not even my own parents."
With that, he hung up.
Sleep was far from my mind now. Once Jones called off his engagement with Scarlett. I would be the target of gossip again. As if my life wasn’t messed up enough already.
"Still not up?" The bedroom door swung open. Damon walked in, casually tossing his tie onto a nearby chair.
"You..." I was about to ask Damon why he hadn’t come home last night, but I changed my question at the last minute, "Did you know about Jones’s mom?"
Damon stiffened, his face turned a bit unnatural, then he replied, "Yeah."
"Are you going to the funeral?" I asked.
"I won’t be attending, but I’ll send someone in my place." Damon stripped off his clothes, revealing his impeccable physique that could put any professional model to shame. He moved towards the bathroom, bare chested.
I caught a whiff of alcohol and women’s perfume. I frowned. What had Damon been up to last night?
I tried to dismiss it, but for some reason, I felt a strange sensation in my heart. It seemed like Damon was hiding something
After hesitating for a while, I got up and picked up Damon’s clothes, taking a gentle sniff. The scent of perfume was indeed coming from his clothes.
"Ding!"
The sound of a message on my phone startled me. I quickly put down my clothes and went to check my phone.
It was a photo sent by an unknown number. It looked like it was taken through a crack in the door. Under the dim light, a woman was nestled in a man’s arms. The man was leaning down as if whispering something to the woman.
It was Damon and Ariel.
There was another man sitting next to them. A man in his fifties, bulky and dressed in a formal jacket. He looked familiar.
I racked my brains and finally remembered who he was. Damon had shown me his profile before. It was about the man who was against my dad.
His name was Ethan Foster, and he held a higher position than my dad.
But I didn’t know how my dad had offended him or why he would help Soul Enterprises, leading to my dad’s wrongful imprisonment.
Why was Damon with Ethan Foster? And Ariel... she looked as docile as a bunny nestled in Damon’s arms.
My mind was in chaos, and it took a while to regain my composure. I tried calling the number that sent the message but got hung up.
I’ve tracked down the IP address. The hacker’s message also came in. He gave me a detailed address, right down to the door number.
It was the address of a luxury villa. Two names came to mind, Ariel and Scarlett.
Without waiting for Damon, I dashed downstairs, hopped into my car, and headed to the address.
Since I wasn’t a resident there, I couldn’t enter the villa area. I contacted Clara to see if she had any clients there who could get me in.
"Aaron lives there. Hold on, I’ll contact him." Clara agreed readily.
About three minutes later, the security allowed me to enter the villa area. Instead of looking for Aaron, I headed straight to the address given by the hacker.
As I found the place, I saw two, no three people coming out of the villa.
Ariel, Scarlett, and Nick.
I quickly found a place to hide and contacted Clara again, asking for Aaron’s contact.
After getting Aaron’s number, I sent him a message. Ariel and the others were walking slowly, seemingly in a conversation.
I maintained a safe distance, following them while trying to stay unnoticed.
It wasn’t until Aaron appeared that I breathed a sigh of relief.
My phone started vibrating. It was a call from Aaron. He was closer to Ariel and the others, so through the phone, I could hear their conversation
"I’ll leave you guys here. Scarlett stopped in her tracks, addressing Ariel and Nick. Her voice was rather indifferent.
Ariel responded, "Alright Ms. Scarlett, I’m really sorry."
Scarlett shook her head, "No point in saying all that now." With that, she walked off
Aaron distanced himself a bit. I quickly found a place to duck out of sight
Then, he pretended to pass by Ariel and Nick.
Ariel whispered, "Nick, if Nicole finds out you drugged her, she’s gonna flip. She’s really pitiful. She’s my best friend..."
Nick gently replied to Ariel, "It’s the only way I could break up with her. Plus, how else could I help you guys lure everyone upstairs?"
