The Reborn Wife Of The Tyrant CEO -
Chapter 278 - 274
Chapter 278: Chapter 274
Ariel seemed to have a sixth sense about me. Just as I tossed away that file, she called me from an unknown number.
"Ms. Brooks, have you reviewed my partnership proposal?" No sooner had Ariel’s voice sounded did I hung up and added that number to my block list.
The afternoon flew by.
I tidied up my desk and then headed back to Starlight Estates.
Damon and I got home about the same time. The smell of food wafting from the dining room made me instantly hungry. I sat down at the table.
Hannah was in her maid’s uniform, looking sprightly.
Her cooking was just as good as it was at lunch. I ate till I was full. Finally, I had hope of gaining some weight.
"Ms. Brooks, can | officially start work the day after tomorrow?" Hannah suddenly asked. "Tomorrow, I have to collect Joshua’s ashes."
The mention of Joshua made my mood a bit heavy. I nodded and said, "Alright. I’ll go with you tomorrow morning. You can rest at home in the afternoon."
Jones’s engagement party was tomorrow night, so I was free during the day.
Hannah didn’t want to trouble me, but I insisted on accompanying her
After dinner, I went to bed early. The following morning, I had to accompany Hannah to collect Joshua’s ashes, and in the afternoon, I had to prepare for Jones’s engagement party.
Those days, Jones hadn’t contacted me or sent any messages. Sometimes, I thought he should have just given up on me. but then I thought that was impossible.
I lay in bed, thinking about these things, waiting for Damon to come to bed, but he didn’t come back until I fell asleep.
When I woke up early the next morning, I saw Damon coming down from the upstairs study. He looked like he had worked late in the study last night and just slept there.
I wished he could sleep in the study every day.
"I’m going out for a bit." I gave him a nod.
"Alright. Don’t forget we have Jones’s engagement party tonight." Damon reminded me casually, hands tucked in his pockets.
He wouldn’t let me go before, but now he was afraid I wouldn’t go. It seemed like he agreed with my analysis,
I nodded, heading downstairs.
Hannah was already up early waiting for me.
I asked James to drive us to the funeral home. As I left, I felt Damon watching me for some reason, and his gaze was a bit odd. But I didn’t think too much about it. Right now, I was heading to the funeral home.
On the way, Hannah started talking about Ariel again. She knew about what had happened between me, Damon, and Ariel. Because Joshua had told her.
"Ms. Brooks, why do you want to get back with Mr. Coleman? Joshua said you’re a good woman, and Mr. Coleman doesn’t deserve you." Hannah usually seemed timid, but now she was blunt.
Even James, who was driving, couldn’t help but cough.
I didn’t know how to answer that question. In fact, I planned to leave Damon as soon as I had achieved my goal.
"Hannah, our situation is complicated; it’s hard to explain in a short time. But I’m curious, why didn’t you like Ariel back then?" I changed the subject.
Hannah was silent for a few seconds, then sighed and said, "Of course, there’s a reason, but she and Joshua have been apart for so long, so there’s no need to bring up those things."
Hannah had a good heart. Even though she didn’t like Ariel, she didn’t badmouth her behind her back.
The premise was that she didn’t know that Joshua’s death might be related to Ariel.
I didn’t press further.
When we arrived at the funeral home, Hannah collected the ashes, and then we returned to Starlight Estates. She cried all the way, and I felt depressed. If Joshua knew I was back with Damon, he would be disappointed.
Back at Starlight Estates, I found Damon wasn’t home. I wanted to ask the servants, but I didn’t do it in the end.
After dinner, I chose my clothes and then did my makeup. Even though the engagement party started in the evening. I needed to arrive a bit early. Just as I was carefully applying my makeup, the door opened.
Damon walked in. I glanced at him, feeling that strange sensation again.
I could say I was one of the people who knew him best, so even if there was no change in his expression, I could feel he was different.
He walked over to me, looking at our reflection in the mirror. A faint smile tugged at his lips as he asked, "Do you really need to dress up this seriously?"
"There will be a lot of people there, some of whom are my business partners, so I need to put some effort into my appearance." I replied.
"Oh." Damon nodded, casually picked up one of my lipsticks, and fiddled with it.
The atmosphere in the bedroom was silent. I felt a bit nervous, but I didn’t ask Damon what happened.
We were about to leave. I didn’t want to have any conflict with him at this time.
After a while, I was almost ready. I was preparing to leave with Damon when he looked at me with a gloomy expression and said, "Have the driver take you."
"Aren’t we going together?" I frowned. I didn’t necessarily want to show up with Damon, and I just didn’t know what had happened to make him change his mind.
"Hmm" Damon grunted and headed to the underground garage, leaving me alone in the living room.
Hannah looked at me, her eyes filled with worry
I was used to Damon’s sudden changes, so I walked out the door calmly and asked James to take me.
Jones’s engagement party was held at the Luxury Hotel. We had dined here before and discussed my marriage to Damon.
Now, I was here for his engagement party.
"Eliana""
Just as I entered the elevator, Zoe’s voice rang out. She came in cheerfully, with Cooper by her side.
She definitely didn’t come with her dad. She was clearly not cool with him,
"Why are you here alone?" Zoe looked outside the elevator, asking with a puzzled look.
"Isn’t that the norm?" I replied with a smile.
"Where’s Damon?" Zoe sighed, "You guys didn’t have a fight, did you?"
Without missing a beat, Cooper replied, "Isn’t that what you’d want?"
Zoe shot him a glare, then laughed and admitted, "Yeah. As your competitor, I’d actually love it if you guys fought, hahaha..."
I couldn’t help but laugh. Zoe’s candidness somehow lessened my guilt towards her.
In the midst of our conversation, the elevator arrived.
At Jones’s engagement party, there were a lot of familiar faces, including Luna and others. But what I didn’t get was, why on earth would Jones and Scarlett Invite Ariel and Karen?
They were even seated next to Nick and Nicole.
"Why did Jones Invite them? Isn’t he worried they’ll pollute the air here?" Luna walked over, rolling her eyes at Ariel and speaking loudly.
Hearing her, Ariel looked around. She instinctively scanned the room, and her eyes started sparkling when she didn’t see Damon
Just then, Damon arrived. The moment Ariel saw him, she immediately put on her love-struck face.
But Damon was weird. The more a woman chased him, the more he seemed to detest her. And that was something I had experienced first-hand.
