Chapter 96: Say Your Last Prayers To Lifara

Taking advantage of the momentary distraction, she aimed to pierce the creature. But as her steel made contact with its skin, it bounced off, the sharp ringing of steel echoing through the air.

The red scales acted as an impenetrable shield.

"Oh no," she panicked, moving her gaze to the creature, now glaring at her with a menacing look.

Isadora’s heart skipped a beat as it lunged toward her again. Placing a hand on the creature’s body, she hoisted herself to the other side, missing the hit.

Crawling, her mind raked for any plan. ’Why did my blade not cut through?’ she thought. Her heart skipped again as the Snákr shrieked in search of her.

Time was not on her side, sooner or later it would figure out where she was. Pausing, her eyes landed on her blade, showing her battered reflection, cuts decorated her face and her left eye was bloodied red.

’Aura,’ she thought in realization. ’I didn’t focus my aura properly!’

Feeling a breeze behind her, she turned and found the creature’s colossal head aiming for her.

Concentrating her aura on her blade, she pierced the creature’s body with it, using the other blade without hesitation.

The Snákr shrieked in distress, the sound shook the entire place, and in rage, it moved its lower body to get rid of her.

Isadora yelped as her body got hurled along but thanks to her blades embedded in its skin, she wasn’t blown away by the force. But with the creature’s relentless movement to get her off, she wasn’t sure she could hold on for long.

The creature suddenly seemed determined to get her off, smashing its body against the wall in distress. Isadora held on as best as she could but her grip was about to give out.

Little debris hit her frame, her head, and her ribs until she felt like crumbling to pieces from every single rock that slammed against her.

Yet she held on, determined to secure her blade, she wouldn’t get her chance again. It was now or never.

The Snákr shrieked, the piercing cry vibrating through the walls and the air, escalating.

Isadora’s ears bleed from the terrifying sound, her eyes squeezing shut, her grip weakened and that was when the Snákr lunged its tail forward, red scales vibrating unnaturally.

Isadora’s swords slipped, her balance faltered, and the Snákr’s tail struck her with a crushing force before she could regain her senses. The impact sent her through the air, flinging her deep into the tunnel.

Her body crashed against the ground, stumbling down the hole, she tried to break her fall multiple times but the tip of her sword kept missing marks.

A shriek escaped her as her body lost gravity, now falling from a height and what would welcome her was something she wouldn’t be able to heal her body from.

Controlling the force of her body descending, she moved her right hand and pierced the tip of her sword into the rock, holding it through. A yell escaped her as her arm strained from the force like it would snap in two.

Her ragged breaths filled the air, followed by grunts of pain. Isadora remained in that position, hand against the sword to ensure her survival, the other wounded because of the fall, blood dripping from her fingers tapping to the ground about thirty feet away from her.

Isadora’s eyes locked on the jagged ground below, sharp rocks jutting like deadly spikes.

She turned her head back to the sword, the only thing keeping her from falling, and yet it was slipping from the rock inch by inch under the weight of her body.

"Please..." she begged for it to last longer.

Suddenly the ground trembled, and sounds of scales grinding against the rough earth echoed through the air.

Panic fueled Isadora’s mind as her wide eyes descended to the Snákr, swiftly moving around, a loud hiss following.

She turned her head back to her sword, gradually almost breaking out.

’Please,’ she thought, praying to the gods for it to hold on, she bit her bottom lip to keep from making a sound and reducing her ragged breathing.

Any little noise would alert the Snákr and falling would be the last thing to worry about.

"How do you fair, love?"

She lifted her gaze to Kraven, crouching on the rock like he was part of it, his head tilting to the side in an eerie stillness.

"Not well it seems." He rested his knees on the rock and leaned closer until their faces were inches apart. "But you’re so close," he mused. "I can feel the faint flicker of your soul... calling for me to take it."

"You’re not real," she whispered as a tear slid from her eyes to the back of her head. The Kraven she knew wanted to own her soul, not reap it.

Once again this was her imagination playing tricks on her, she must be close to dying.

"Come on, love, give the gods the respect they deserve..." He grinned as his eyes gave an eerily glow. "Say your last prayers to Lifara."

Isadora blinked away the rest of the tears that threatened to consume her whole, her body was giving up and she wasn’t sure how long she had left.

"I’ll not yield," she said weakly.

He laughed. "You’ll not? You do not have a choice, love, Daudi is present."

"Then let him to wait a little longer..." She pulled her sword out herself catching him off guard.

As she fell, he vanished in a cloak of darkness. Isadora’s lips parted, her eyes briefly closing as the wind tore the tears from her face. Her golden blonde hair unraveled from its bun, fanning widely around her.

It’s funny how even now... the only person she could think of was the man she despised.

Hearing the shriek of the Snákr, she angled her body to turn, facing the creature head-on as she descended toward it.

This may be her last breath, but she would make it worth it.
