Chapter 68: You’re Not Dead, Isadora

"There is nothing I can do, except wait for Daudi to come."

A frown took over his features and it was more than pleasing for Isadora to see, it was better than having that smirk on his lips.

"I prefer he comes here than stay and talk with you," she added looking away from him, it would be an endless pain waiting for death but maybe when it came she would finally find her peace.

"Is that what you want, Isadora?"

"Why do you care what I want?" she replied. "It doesn’t matter."

What was the point of all this? All her hopes were gone the moment she saw Kraven on that throne.

The rest of the way she was just pushing through to throw it in their faces but in the end, it didn’t matter, she was never going to survive the Hunt.

"Nothing ever matters in the end," she turned her head to him. "Even for you," she added with a murmur before letting the fatigue take over.

The loud horn blasted, vibrating through the walls and the earth beneath. The sounds of stones rolling closed filled the arena and those who passed the challenge came forth.

The arena erupted in cheers from the ravenites.

"I don’t think the rest of them will make it through, Logi, you really outdone yourself this time," Nyssa said amused when she didn’t spot a particular golden blonde hair.

She turned to the three men and froze, their eyes on the tunnels as if they wanted to conjure a presence out of it.

She cleared her throat. "We should get on with the next challenge, Logi?"

"Let the crowd enjoy themselves a little more," he replied absentmindedly.

A deep frown carved on her features at his reply. "Logi!"

"What?" he snapped, turning to face her with a foul look.

"The next challenge," she imposed.

Rav couldn’t take this anymore, he shook his head and rose to his feet, before leaving he glared at Kraven.

He never judged him before but now he had taken Isadora away from him, a girl who didn’t deserve anything other than good things.

"I hope you’re happy," he said. "In the end, you reaped her soul," he walked away leaving the event.

"She failed," Logi said with a frown. "She must be dead." Saying that out loud didn’t sit right with him. He had honestly expected something more from her.

Ekko observed his master, a dark and brooding look against his face, elbows resting on his knees with hands clasped together.

An unhinged look glimmered in his eyes, and his usual smirk was absent. Ekko could tell he was riled up, yet his composure remained, in a silent but deadly way.

Suddenly a grin curled on his lips, even more unsettling due to how forced it was, sending a cold shiver down Ekko’s spine.

’Wrong,’ Kraven thought. ’You’re not dead, Isadora, where are you?’

He could feel it, the bond sparked beneath his skin, faint but undeniable.

She’s alive.

Weak, maybe suffering, but breathing.

"Logi, get on with the next challenge, you’re keeping the crowd impatient,"

Logi stole a look at Kraven with narrowed eyes before he replied. "That is what I had in mind already." He shrugged, getting to his feet to announce the next riddle.

It was time for the main event.

Isadora groaned, slowly opening her eyes, her vision blurred briefly and when she tried to move, the familiar excruciating pain shot through her.

A strangled scream tore through her lips, and tears built up at the corner of her eyes, she gripped her knee caps growling and breathing heavily.

"I told you to fix it."

"I can’t!" she snapped, turning to her unwanted company. "My hand hurts and I can’t summon the weaves, are you blind?!"

"Feisty!" he smirked.

She wanted nothing more but to fling her dagger at his face but he would dodge it and she would lose it. It was not the best decision at the moment.

Dagger?

The thought caused Isadora to level her eyes to her waist and then the scabbard. An idea popped into her head, one she wished she had known sooner.

"Are we finally on to something?"

She ignored his words as she took off the strap from her waist, unsheathed her swords, and grabbed the scabbard.

"What are you trying to do, love?"

Knowing she couldn’t ignore him, she replied. "There is no stick," she said, undoing the tie from her bracers. "This will do."

She took a deep breath leaning toward her twisted ankle and set it straight. Her screams filled the area, it drowned her completely but she was eager to make it stop.

Tears rolled down her cheeks as she placed the scabbard at both sides, uncomfortably shifting to get the right angle, and then used the tie.

Each knot sent a hellish pain through her until there was no sound to produce. Just her whimpers and groans.

"You need something tighter than that, love."

Isadora ripped her tunic, the sound echoing through the air. She quickly added it up, grunting as she tightened the makeshift support around her ankle.

After a few minutes of agonizing pain, it began to subside, not completely but enough to bear. She relaxed her back on the wall, trying to catch her breath.

"So have you thought of a way out?"

She scoffed. "What makes you think I need a way out?"

He frowned at her words. "You still want to die here?"

At this point, she had no idea what she wanted. She only wanted to stop hurting.

The cold wind came through causing her teeth to clatter, if the pain wouldn’t kill her then the cold surely would.

Even though Kraven was trying to get under her skin again, she knew he was right, staying here and doing nothing would be slow and painful, and before Daudi would come, she would be begging for mercy.

Isadora grabbed her twin swords, taking her leather corset off, she used it to secure the blades and somehow tied it to her back with the remaining pieces of tunic she cut off. The material now hung low around her body, revealing her pale stomach.

Grabbing the rocks behind she forced herself to her feet, using it for support as she walked to the edge, her eyes fixed on the waves pushing through rocks.

"Don’t tell me you’re planning on jumping," he said, displeased.

She scoffed. "I’m not suicidal."
