Chapter 67: A Dying Girl

"This challenge is ugly, the first was meant to reveal one’s true nature and how desperate they are to achieve their goals. In this, many will get eaten by the unknown,’’ Logi explained, relining in his seat before turning to Kraven. ’’It was made to root out the weeds."

Rav rubbed his hands together, this was exactly what he was scared of—thetrue nature ofthehunt. Isadora would not fare well in this no matter how capable she thought she was.

She would eventually get eaten.

’I hope you’re happy, Kraven’, Rav thought glaring at him.

He always wished her dead and now he acted a coward because he couldn’t do it himself. He wanted her on the hunt just to get rid of her.

"Why the tensed air?" Kraven said and they stared at him. "We should enjoy the hunt as we always do, this brings back memories doesn’t it?"

Rav found it hard to contain his anger, it rolled off him in waves and was mostly directed at Kraven.

Nyssa stared between them with a frown, again... Rav was acting up because of that girl. Has she bewitched him? That seemed to be the only explanation because Rav never disagreed with Kraven and his ways.

He was more inclined to it than others were. Yet ever since that mannfae came here, Rav was a mess of emotions.

As a commander of the Raven Court, this will keep him from performing his duties properly if he kept getting engrossed by a stray.

’The sooner she dies the better,’ she thought.

"Lord Raven," a voice came from behind.

Suddenly getting them aware of the new presence.

"You’re late, Ekko," Kraven said.

"Forgive me, Lord Raven."

"How did your mission go?"

"I shall relay the news to you after the Hunt."

"Tell me Ekko, how many weeds do you think we’ll have this winter?" Logi suddenly asked, amused.

"I’m sure I’ll not be as accurate as you, Tinker."

Logi broke into a pearl of laughter. "Of course!"

A dripping sound filled Isadora’s ears.

Tap. Tap. Tap.

Her lashes fluttered, her lips parting slightly. Slowly, her eyes opened—and the sight before her sent a jolt of panic through her.

She wailed in excruciating pain when she tried to move. Her breath grew raspy, her heart almost slamming out of her chest. Whatever that pain was she didn’t want to experience it again.

But the sight beneath her—the waves and the rocks under them, it would certainly smash her to pieces if she fell. The mere thought caused her blood to run cold.

She tried to move again, more desperate this time. Her cries of pain echoed through the air as she forced her body away from the edge.

Her back met the ground and a relief breath escaped her.

She thought she was dead! How in Alda’s name did she survive that fall? Or was it not high enough?

There is no use thinking deeply, she mentally thanked the gods.

She attempted to sit up, but that pain shot through her again—this time, brutal enough to steal her breath away.

Her eyes traced the pain and it landed on her foot twisted at an unnatural angle, it sent a wave of agony through her body by even the smallest twitch.

A strangled and broken scream tore through her causing her to collapse back to the ground as the blistering pain pulsed through.

She needed to get up but she couldn’t, the pain was just too much. "Get up," she said, her lips quivering and her rugged breath filled her ears.

Once more she tried to get up, but her strangled scream echoed in the air. She leaned her back against the cold wall.

She stared at the leg again, gulping hard before taking her time to look around.

Whatever this place was, it didn’t look like the familiar vast space for the challenge. When Dain pushed her, she must have landed in an unknown area. Lifting her chin, her eyes found the distance she fell from.

Maybe it wasn’t as far down as she feared, and this rock she sat on saved her life.

Isadora ran a hand through her hair, to keep them from sticking to her face because of the sweat. Sniffled and closed her eyes, resting the back of her head against the wall.

"That doesn’t look good."

She slowly opened her eyes and weakly stared at Kraven crouching in front of her, silver eyes on her broken ankle.

"What are you doing here?" she asked weakly.

He veered his eyes to her, lips wide in a smile. "And you don’t look good too, love," he looked up. "Hmm... I don’t think you fell too high, you’re lucky."

"I should be dead."

He cackled. "What did I tell you? I own your soul... Daudi doesn’t have a chance at it." he gloated.

She turned away, eyes blinking away tears.

"You’re hurting?"

"Yes I am!" she snapped, facing him. "Can’t you tell?"

"That’s why I asked or else I wouldn’t know"

She laughed, but it was a scornful, bitter sound. "I can’t move my body... I’m trapped and there is nothing I can do, I..." she couldn’t finish as the tears fell.

"I thought I could do it," she broke. "But I can’t. Forget proving what a mannfae can do, I was never meant to live a life of a full-blooded Fae."

She used the back of her hand to wipe the tears away but they just kept coming. "And now I’m going to die alone down here," she turned her glassy eyes to him. "And you’re here to watch me, care to lend a hand to a dying girl? Or are you too cocky to do that?"

"Haven’t you realized Isadora..." he said amused.

She narrowed her eyes confused before looking away, she wasn’t in the mood to entertain him, he simply just came here to watch her suffer.

"You should fix that, or the more it hurts."
