The Reaper's Wicked Obsession -
Chapter 37: Calling Lights
Chapter 37: Calling Lights
"Rav, what’s going to happen to me?"
She had an eerily feeling that this was just the beginning of terror, the last time she felt something as intense was the first time meeting Kraven as he descended upon her like Daudi.
"What do you know about the Raven Court?" he asked.
"I-I don’t know anything. I only heard the name from Serena,"
"What did she tell you?"
Isadora couldn’t understand where this talk was going but she replied regardless. "They are dangerous and criminals wanted by the law"
Rav smirked. "That is what they know, but it’s more than that. For now, I’ll only tell you what I think it’s best to know"
She nodded stiffly, awaiting answers.
"The Raven court isn’t just an outlaw organization, it’s a court, have you heard about the Fae Court of The Realm?"
She nodded stiffly. "Just a little, from the travelers I had the chance to sit with. They say they’re a powerful order"
"The Fae courts were created to balance the realm and uphold the will of the gods, They each represent the seasons and changes"
"If the court has such power then why are you known as criminals?" she asked curiously, it didn’t make any sense why they were hunted if they were part of a court with such influence.
"Because there’s only meant to be five Fae courts by the order, The Raven Court was not approved" he explained.
Isadora gulped. "Why would your leader create an imposter court? Isn’t that going against the gods will?"
"If it were against the gods will then we would have never made it this far, it’s just society that can’t agree with changes or a power they can’t control,"
Isadora couldn’t miss how deeply he spoke about the courts, with his wistful expression.
She had a feeling he had a history with them.
"You speak of the court as if they hold absolute power, who is insane enough to create a sixth court then?"
Rav chuckled deeply, mostly at her naivety.
"Your leader must be mad" She shook her head wondering who such a person could be to have such ambition.
"B-But what does this have to do with me?"
Rav’s expression shifted as he spoke "To be a ravenite, there’s a rite of passage. This is necessary because it shows how devoted you are to the cause" he glanced back at her. "It’s been decided you’ll participate in the Hunt"
Isadora’s eyes widened as fear rose in them. "B-But I don’t want to be a ravenite, I want no part in this court"
"It’s not up to you"
Her heartbeat quickened and it suddenly became harder to breathe. Her fate had been set in stone once again, just like the day she was sold by her family.
"I’m sorry, Isadora"

Isadora watched the buzzing lights from a particular area, the glow hinting at the center of some joyous event.
’What are they celebrating?’ The question gnawed at her, an itch of curiosity she couldn’t ignore.
Rav wasn’t around—he had left after insisting she rest and stay inside the house.
’Is he there too?’
She felt safer with him around, because right now she couldn’t stop checking her room door.
She knew she was just being paranoid because of the unshakable feeling that she wasn’t safe.
’He could be there, just a peak wouldn’t hurt’.
"Don’t do anything stupid, Isa" she spoke to herself but by the bidding hour she had enough thinking and decided to find Rav instead.
She grabbed a cloak walking down the stairs but had to pause to adjust her pants.
They fitted her legs properly but not the white tunic twice her size—courtesy of Rav. She wasn’t used to wearing pants, because she had never worn them before.
After the third adjustment, she was ready to go. She put on her hood and stepped out of the house heading towards the big light source.
Her mind rattled about this being a bad idea but she silenced those thoughts.
The closer she got, the louder the sounds were—the laughter, music, and the rhythmic stomp of dancing feet. The crowd was larger than she’d expected, how was she supposed to find Rav in such place?
A wave of intense heat radiated from the bonfire at the center, towering like a fiery mountain.
The top of the cave had an opening, revealing the moon at its peak. Everyone seemed so engrossed with the activities and Isadora just stood there watching, taking every single detail like she was a newborn, the fascination blazing her gaze.
The way they danced and howled to the moon. She had never seen anyone just so... free, and spirited. It was different.
Isadora envied this because they were free to express themselves. She’d never had the chance to do that, it was always about someone’s expectations or the picture they painted for her.
Watching the carefree dance and celebration caused a sting in her chest.
A passerby handled her horn cup which she took clumsily causing the contents to spill a little.
Is this water? She took a drink, drowning its contents in one go. She coughed, a result of her hasty attempts to ease her dry throat. It tasted harsh but there was an aftertaste that spiked her taste buds.
This ale was completely different from the Isle’s.
"Are you enjoying yourself?"
Isadora turned to the sudden voice directed her way.
The stranger had dark hair styled in a mullet, the front strands hanging low over his forehead, matching his dark, thick eyebrows.
His eyes were the sharpest green she had ever seen and gleamed with the light.
She gulped, taking in his features and slightly intimidating height—not as scary as Kraven’s but decent enough to maintain eye contact.
A plain smile found his lips as he gestured to her cup "More?"
Isadora eyed the cup before bringing her gaze back to his green ones. "I-I-I..." she couldn’t find the right word.
"Don’t worry, I won’t bite—unless I have to,"
