Chapter 106: Your New Home

Chapter 106: Your New Home

"This is mine?" Isadora asked, in awe, staring at the portable house blending with the rock faces, and yellow lights coming from the windows.

"Yes, it’s small but—"

"What do you mean by that? I love it!" She squeaked, placing her hands together.

Rav sneered at her outburst. "I’m glad you do, it is traditional for a crowned warrior to have one."

Isadora paused as she turned her eyes to Rav. "Crowned warrior?" He must be making a joke. "B-But I failed."

"Did you?"

"I was meant to kill the beast but I didn’t."

"But you survived." He pointed out. "And besides, Kraven has already declared you did."

Rav noticed at the mention of Kraven’s name—the pressure in the air shifted. His scarlet eyes observed as her expression fell and he mentally cursed himself for making a mistake like that.

He loved her cheerful expression and didn’t want to ruin it.

In an instant, Rav’s eye leveled and found the blood stains hidden under the oversized jacket she wore.

"What’s this?" he demanded, as he parted the jacket to take a look.

Isadora’s cheeks reddened at his actions, especially when his eyes fell on her nipples hardened beneath the material. She did not wear undergarments.

Rav froze at the sight of them.

Isadora quickly pulled away from him and covered up. "I-It’s not my blood!" she yelled, and she was not about to explain how she got the stain.

Rav remained still and swallowed hard, closing his eyes briefly, and shook his head to get the image out. "F-Forgive me, I overreacted."

"It’s okay," she mumbled, feeling uneasy. "Y-You were just worried."

He scratched the back of his head. "Yes, I was," he said in a ragged whisper. "I am always worried about you."

The moment she pinned him with her amber eyes he felt like the sun was gazing down at him, he never realized this until now but her eyes held the color of the sun. They were beautiful.

Even though she was a mess, her lengthy golden blonde hair forced into a bun, oversized clothing on her small frame—the lanterns cast a glow to her porcelain skin. She was radiant.

Rav quickly shoved that thought away and looked back to the house. "You should get settled in."

’Alda! What am I thinking?’ he thought as his heartbeat picked up pace, but he swallowed the sensation away.

"I already moved most of your things," he said, clearing his throat. "I got it ready for you."

A smile found Isadora’s lips but she was still embarrassed by the situation so she didn’t meet his eyes. "Thanks."

"There’s a crowning party too, two nights from now."

"Crowning party?"

"Yes."

"A celebration for warriors?"

"Yes, and it’s mandatory to attend."

"Of course it is..."

He chuckled softly as her expression changed and her cheeks pouted.

She had always worn serious expressions of pain and it was nice to see something uplifting.

The Hunt was suddenly all a bad dream and he was glad it was all over.

The night a moon ago still dwelled on him. He never gave much thought to it because she had been asleep. Yet, seeing her standing before him, knowing the fact of what she was to Kraven.

He didn’t like it.

Her life was unstable as it was, but having Kraven in her life... was a drastic turn that filled him with worries. Her existence was no longer as a mannfae who could weave. She had no idea what her existence entailed.

Rav had a feeling her life would take a sharp turn from here and he was worried he wouldn’t be able to protect her properly, he’d been doing a bad job at it.

He needed to think of something, for her sake.

"I should go in, would you like to come in?" Isadora offered, taking a step forward but he grabbed her hand gently and stopped her.

Isadora turned to him. "Rav?"

"I have something to do, duty calls."

"Oh..." she made a sound downheartedly. "I was hoping to give you a drink or something, I don’t know how else I’m supposed to thank you for this."

"It’s not..." he couldn’t finish because he didn’t want to kill the unburdened look on her face the moment he told her Kraven was the one who was responsible for this particular house.

"Invite me next time then," he said, with a smile stretched on his lips, releasing her hands and suddenly missing the warmth from them.

"Okay, but next time it would be dinner," she mused. "And don’t say no to that."

"Of course. I’ll see you tomorrow in two nights, remember it’s mandatory."

She rolled her eyes. "If you say so."

He chuckled, retreating his steps, and strode away. Isadora watched until he disappeared into the threshold. The loneliness suddenly shifted back in.

She sighed heavily, slumping with her knees to her chest. The strong wind came, making the lanterns that light a path to her house dance, making a dangling noise and the flame inside flapped.

Gods! It was so cold, colder now that Rav was gone. She didn’t want to be alone, knowing that feelings she tried to avoid would come back.

Vanya was out settling in and she wanted to give her some space to do so, just like she needed hers.

"Don’t falter, Isa," she murmured, forcing her body to its feet and turning to her house.

Suddenly she paused when her eyes caught something, turning back she landed her gaze on a particular area with broad windows, a place secluded from the rest of the population.

A place that looked like Kraven’s residence.

She gulped, telling herself it could be just a random residence because all the houses here looked the same, there was no sunlight and the whole place was always night, with torches and lanterns lit in every corner to create brightness.

So she could be looking at a completely different house. Shaking her head she turned her back and stepped into her new home.
