Chapter 939: 428 Young Master Hou (two updates)_2 Chapter 939: 428 Young Master Hou (two updates)_2 Princess Xinyang did not speak.
“Princess, I’m not lying to you… He really…” Yujin’s words halted abruptly upon seeing Princess Xinyang’s expression.
The serenity and cold loneliness that always graced Princess Xinyang’s face remained, but her eyes were a complex mix of emotions, yet surprisingly, devoid of astonishment.
All sounds from Yujin disappeared.
But it was only a moment before she found her voice again, “Princess, do you… already know?”
Yujin wanted to ask her when she found out.
Was it during the time when Long Yi ambushed the prisoner carriage, or even earlier?
Princess Xinyang turned and went into the next-door Study Room.
When Yujin reached the doorway, intending to follow her in, she felt the immense sense of distance and solitude emanating from Princess Xinyang.
She did not want anyone to enter the room.
Yujin stopped at the threshold, staring blankly at Princess Xinyang who enclosed herself in the depths of darkness, her gaze flickering as she asked, “Princess, is he the young Marquis?”
…
Xiao Liulang was severely injured.
Yujin went to the nearby Medical Hall and fetched a doctor, who, after glancing at the wound, directly stated that with his medical skills, he could not save the patient’s hand.
This hand had been injured once, fractured once, and had been jostled many times by assassins, which was certainly no more promising than having been frozen in the Snowfield for several hours.
The doctor, who still had a conscience in the medical community, sighed and said, “I’ve heard that doctors from the Medical Hall are extraordinary and can even reattach a severed palm. Madam, perhaps you should seek a doctor from there to have a look!”
Just as Yujin was about to personally go to the Medical Hall to summon a doctor, Gu Jiao arrived.
Gu Jiao received news from the imperial guards and her intuition told her that Xiao Liulang had been saved by Princess Xinyang. Whether it was her or Long Yi who had intervened, she could not be certain.
Yujin was slightly startled, “Gu Miss?”
Gu Jiao said, “Is my husband here?”
Yujin looked at her confusedly, “Your… husband?”
Gu Jiao said earnestly, “The Hanlin officer, Xiao Liulang.”
Yujin was once again at a loss for words.
She might have used up a lifetime’s worth of surprises tonight.
Gu Jiao went to Princess Xinyang’s chamber. Right now she had no time to ponder over Yujin’s or Princess Xinyang’s thoughts—she immediately checked on Xiao Liulang’s injuries.
Just like in her dream, it was the right hand that was injured, even the location of the wound was exactly the same, but he’d encountered other troubles on the way, making his condition several degrees worse than in the dream.
By now, she could surely determine that events from the dream had advanced.
She couldn’t figure out why.
Gu Jiao opened the first aid kit, took out the disinfectant, and began cleaning Xiao Liulang’s wound. Places that had barely scabbed over were once again seeping blood.
Gu Jiao smelled the scent of fresh blood.
She closed her eyes and began a difficult exercise in self-control.
It was nearly half an hour later when Gu Jiao emerged from the chamber. Performing Surgery on Xiao Liulang had been much harder than on any other patient, probably because this man’s allure was too great. Even his blood excited her more than others, requiring her to exert extra effort to suppress it.
Everything was over half an hour later.
Xiao Liulang was lying quietly in the Bedchamber with an IV drip.
Yujin brought in a basin of hot water, the likes of which she had never seen before, prompting her to take a few extra glances.
“Thank you,” Gu Jiao took the hot water and wiped Xiao Liulang’s face and hands.
“Doctor Gu,” Yujin hesitated.
“What is it?” Gu Jiao asked.
“Could you… go see the Princess? And talk to her about…” Yujin glanced at the sleeping Xiao Liulang and swallowed the words “young Marquis”, “the patient’s condition.”
“Alright.” Gu Jiao put down the towel and went to the next-door Study Room.
Inside the Study Room, there was no light save for the cool moonlight and sporadic candlelight from the corridor streaming in.
Princess Xinyang sat by the window sill, her back toward the door.
Gu Jiao gently knocked on the already open door before stepping in.
She sat down opposite Princess Xinyang.
“What are you doing here?” Princess Xinyang asked indifferently, without looking at Gu Jiao, continuing to gaze out at the night through the window.
Gu Jiao said, “His injuries are not too serious. I came to inform the Princess.”
Princess Xinyang said coldly, “Whether he’s in trouble or not, what does it have to do with me?”
Gu Jiao raised an eyebrow, “If it has nothing to do with you, why are you sheltering him?”
Princess Xinyang casually replied, “It was Long Yi who brought the man back.”
Gu Jiao, “Oh.”
Princess Xinyang looked emotionlessly at Gu Jiao, “You don’t believe me? Long Yi once picked you up, too.”
Gu Jiao asked oddly, “Does Long Yi often pick people up like this? Picks one and throws them onto your bed?”
Princess Xinyang gave Gu Jiao a cool glance.
