Chapter 352: Chapter 352 – No, I’m not ashamed

In the garden, Matilda appeared despondent, but Sabrina patiently waited for her to open up, refraining from pressuring or pushing her.

"Sabrina, I’ve ruined everything. I’ve lost his trust, and I feel like he no longer loves me. I’m afraid he’ll leave me after I give birth to our child," Matilda bitterly expressed.

Sabrina shook her head, knowing that Devin loved Matilda more deeply than she realized.

"No, you shouldn’t say that. Devin is not that kind of man," Sabrina reassured her, though Matilda remained unconvinced.

She still sensed that Devin was keeping something bottled up inside, as he no longer looked at her the way he used to.

"But he refused to marry me when I suggested it. Initially, he was the one who wanted us to get married, but now that I’m ready, he claims I’m not," Matilda lamented.

Sabrina raised her eyebrows, agreeing with Devin on this matter.

"How do you know you’re ready?" she inquired. She then offered some advice, "Pregnancy should not be the sole reason for rushing into marriage."

"But I love him," Matilda confessed, her eyes welling up with tears.

Sabrina shook her head and questioned her, "Then why didn’t you marry him when he proposed?" Sabrina understood that Matilda was different. Unlike herself, who would sacrifice anything for love, Matilda didn’t seem to possess the same mindset.

"Do you remember Estelle from our school days?" Matilda abruptly asked, leaving Sabrina slightly perplexed.

However, she answered honestly, "She was the only married student in our class."

Matilda nodded in agreement and explained, "I always felt like she was too old to be a part of our group, and I didn’t want to turn out like her. I just wanted to fit in."

Sabrina chuckled as she realized the root of her best friend’s issues. "But did you know that she’s actually a principal at her own school now?"

"Yes, I heard," Matilda admitted. Sabrina continued with her questioning,

"Matilda, how many of our college friends are you still in contact with?"

Matilda didn’t understand the relevance of the question to their conversation, but she answered, "Just you and a few others."

"That should show you that you shouldn’t live your life to please others. Does my brother make you happy?" Sabrina asked again. Matilda blushed and replied,

"He makes me happier than you do."

Sabrina was pleased with her response and honestly said, "Well, then I’m glad."

"I should have married him when he proposed. I should have known that he wouldn’t make me sacrifice my dreams. But now I feel like it’s too late," Matilda said, her tone filled with sadness.

She wished she could erase all the hurtful things she had said to Devin, but now all she could do was drown in pity.

Meanwhile, Sabrina had a different perspective on the situation and honestly stated, "It’s not."

"But he doesn’t even want to be intimate with me," Matilda said, feeling miserable.

Devin had been the one initiating advances before, but suddenly stopped when she started resisting.

She wouldn’t even let him kiss her, and he had grown accustomed to it. Sabrina’s advice was based on her understanding of the situation, as Matilda had left out a crucial piece of information.

"That’s because of how shocking your behavior was. You wanted to terminate my niece or nephew, even after I promised to take care of it," Sabrina explained.

Regret filled Matilda’s tone as she sincerely said, "I’m sorry, I won’t do that anymore, but Devin still doesn’t trust me."

"You have to earn his trust after all the pain you caused him," Sabrina responded seriously, not sugarcoating her words.

"I guess you’re right. I only have one chance to give birth, and I almost terminated it. I guess I’ve caused him too much damage," Matilda admitted.

Sabrina was shocked by this revelation and was about to reprimand her when Devin’s voice interrupted,

"Tilly, I forgot to take you for a proper checkup." It was clear that he wanted them to go to the hospital now.

That was his original plan, but after Matilda woke up and suggested spending time with Sabrina, he completely forgot about it. It wasn’t until his conversation with Robin that he remembered.

Matilda was hesitant to go to the hospital again since she had already been to the clinic yesterday and knew her current situation.

She responded, "We can do that on Monday."

Devin smiled, but it was a bitter smile because he felt that Matilda was still trying to delay their plans. He subtly reminded her,

"You have school on Monday."

"I’m already planning to defer my program," she confirmed, which saddened Devin. He couldn’t help but ask,

"Is it because you’re ashamed of the pregnancy?"

Sabrina noticed the tension between the couple and decided to leave them in the garden to join Robin in the living room.

Matilda was disappointed that Devin felt that way, but she knew she could only blame herself for everything happening in her life.

She stood up and faced Devin, even though she couldn’t match his height. She held his gaze and honestly said,

"No, I’m not ashamed. I’m actually happy because we’re in this together."

Then prove it. You’re going to school on Monday," Devin said seriously, but Matilda refused and explained,

"No, because I took your advice. I want to start my own company. It’s one of the reasons why I wanted to talk to Sabrina, but we ended up talking about you."

A tear fell down her cheek, and Devin’s heart sank, realizing he had been too hard on her.

His gaze softened, and he gently caressed her cheek.

"If you want to start the company, I’m here to support you, but I just want you to complete this semester," he suggested, expecting her to refuse. To his amazement, she nodded her head and agreed, saying,

"Okay."

Devin forced a smile and said, "So, let’s go to the hospital. We’ll come back and spend the night here."

Matilda pursed her lips tightly, feeling that his feelings for her had vanished and his only concern was the baby. "I’ll go to the hospital if you answer my question truthfully."

Devin frowned slightly, not ready for another dramatic situation. "What’s the question?" he asked seriously.
