Chapter 337: Chapter 337 – She almost killed our child
Hours before dropping Lizzy off at the mansion, Devin found himself driving aimlessly around town.
His mind was filled with a whirlwind of thoughts. Ever since reuniting with Matilda, he had made a firm decision to be completely devoted to her.
However, it seemed that even his unwavering commitment was not enough.
He couldn’t help but wonder where he had gone wrong, but he couldn’t pinpoint any specific mistake.
Their relationship had never felt forced, and Matilda had always professed her love for him just as strongly. Yet, something was amiss.
With nowhere else to turn, Devin decided to distance himself from Matilda for a while. He was overwhelmed with sadness and frustration, but he knew he couldn’t unleash his anger on her, especially considering her current condition.
Nevertheless, the weight of his emotions was becoming unbearable, weighing heavily on his heart.
Upon seeing the club sign, he felt it was the perfect place to be. As he entered, girls immediately surrounded him.
"Hey there, handsome. Want a date?" Devin found their advances uncomfortable and pushed their hands away.
Women were the furthest thing from Devin’s mind, as he now saw them as complex individuals.
He had no desire to get involved with any of them. "Sorry, not today," he replied, making his way towards the bar.
A few other girls approached him, but after receiving the same response, they left him alone.
Devin settled onto a bar stool, ordering drink after drink until he eventually passed out from excessive drinking.
He had no idea that people had been leaving the club for the past hour.
.
"Sir, you haven’t paid for your drinks," the bartender said, surprised to see Devin sleeping amidst the loud music.
She refrained from having security kick him out since he hadn’t settled his tab. However, now that they were closing for the night, she couldn’t wait any longer.
Devin handed her his card, his head throbbing from the hangover. After swiping it, she asked him,
"Would you like to book a room?"
Devin stood up from the bar stool, feeling lightheaded and swaying slightly.
"Just leave me alone," he mumbled, slumping onto a nearby couch. The bartender decided to call security to escort him out since he had already paid.
At the villa.
"My queen," Robin said softly, "Daniel tracked him to one of the clubs. I will go and bring him. I know how worried you are."
However, Sabrina couldn’t allow him to go alone. She felt like she might die of anxiety before Robin returned.
"Let me come with you," Sabrina said with determination. Robin couldn’t refuse. It was past the normal clubbing time, so there wouldn’t be many people around.
"Okay," Robin agreed.
Sabrina picked a casual dress and, while putting it on, she remembered something. "But he doesn’t drink a lot."
Robin smiled a little, knowing that heavy drinking wasn’t something people were born with. It was all a matter of circumstances.
"He lost his best friend and has no one to talk to," Robin said thoughtfully. Sabrina froze.
She remembered how Devin had half-confided in her, but she chose to keep her promise to Matilda and not tell him.
"It’s my fault. He confided in me, but I let him down."
Robin disagreed, opening the door for her. "You did the right thing. It wasn’t your place to tell him."
"But she almost went through with it," Sabrina said as they walked out of the villa and sat inside Robin’s car, which he held the door open for her.
"She would have never been able to go through with it. I told you Devin would know. I guess Matilda should have joined the army like her father. She is too... I lack the words to explain her personality," Robin said after he sat in the driver’s seat.
Sabrina went silent as she thought about Matilda’s complicated personality. Sabrina struggled in her marriage for a child, but Matilda, even when she wasn’t married, was already pregnant but not happy.
Life wasn’t fair.
The journey of nearly thirty minutes felt like only five minutes to Sabrina, and she couldn’t determine if it was due to Robin’s speed or her own thoughts.
Surprisingly, when they arrived at the car park, Robin noticed a familiar car pull over and two people stepping out.
"You came?" Robin was taken aback to see Daniel and Lizzy, as he hadn’t invited Daniel.
"Don’t forget, he’s my soon-to-be brother-in-law," Daniel smiled and explained. Sabrina hugged Lizzy before the four of them entered the empty club.
Meanwhile, security personnel were escorting a man out of the club, but Robin intervened. "I’ll take it from here."
"Mr. Jewel," the security personnel greeted politely, recognizing Robin as a regular at the club.
Robin supported Devin as they walked to his car, but Daniel had questions since Lizzy had no idea why Devin would be in such a place. It was out of character for him.
"Robin, can we talk?" Daniel asked, and Robin replied,
"If you find the time, come to my house. It’s still early, so I might go back to the office."
Daniel understood that Robin was busy, but Lizzy turned to Sabrina and inquired, "Sisi, what happened and where is Tilda?"
"Let’s discuss it later, okay? You need to hurry to the office," Sabrina advised. Lizzy knew Sabrina was right because it seemed unlikely that Devin would be going to the office, meaning she couldn’t miss work.
At the villa, Robin assisted Daniel out of the car, but when he locked eyes with Sabrina, his anger flared.
"You knew, Brina, and you kept it to yourself."
Sabrina felt guilty and couldn’t defend herself, but Robin stepped in and explained,
"I told her not to tell you. I knew you were smart and would figure it out without her betraying Matilda’s trust."
Sabrina’s heart sank as she saw Devin, who always seemed composed, break down in tears.
"She almost killed our child, and even now, she would still go through with it."
As he spoke, Sabrina’s phone rang, and upon seeing Matilda’s caller ID, she didn’t know what to do.
