Chapter 147: 146: Zhizhi is still not proactive enough

The continuous intimacy had left Shi Yin questioning his life. Even as he sat at the dining table, his right hand holding chopsticks, he still hadn’t recovered from the earlier touch.

"Why aren’t you eating?" Ruan Yuan noticed that the man hadn’t started picking up food and nervously sat up straight. "Is it not to your liking?"

She had secretly observed the man these past two days, getting a sense of his general preferences. There was no reason for such a situation to arise.

"No, it’s not that." Shi Yin glanced at her evasively before lowering his head quickly, trying to minimize his presence while also attempting to calm his chaotic thoughts.

He picked up the tomato and scrambled egg dish placed in front of him, holding a bowl in one hand while seriously scooping rice with the other.

Ruan Yuan bit her chopsticks, her eyebrows raising mischievously as she stared at him for a moment, suddenly grasping something.

She moved to sit beside him, picked up a piece of fish, and leaned in to place it into his bowl. "This is my specialty. Try it."

When the woman leaned forward, several strands of her ponytail brushed against Shi Yin’s arm, causing a gentle ticklish sensation.

He turned his head to look at her profile, and the redness lingering on his ears deepened to a blood-like flush.

"Thank you, I can do it myself." Shi Yin unobtrusively shifted to the side, attempting to block the lingering rose fragrance from her body that was entering his nose.

"Try this one too; it’s my favorite." Ruan Yuan pretended not to notice his discomfort, continuing to pick up food and leaning closer to him.

Shi Yin stared at the porcelain bowl filled to the brim and lowered his head even further. Not knowing how to stop her actions, he sped up his eating pace.

When he finally cleared the food in his bowl and prepared to leave the table, the edge of his clothing was tugged by the woman again.

"Shi Yin, I don’t feel so well." Ruan Yuan clutched her stomach with an uncomfortable expression, her deep and mysterious eyes filled with helplessness and pity.

Shi Yin paused in his tracks, slightly bending down as he prepared to ask about her condition, when slender hands encircled his neck.

Looking into his eyes, Ruan Yuan seized the moment before he could react, tilting her head to kiss the side of his face. "Tricked you, didn’t I?"

The warmth from her kiss made Shi Yin’s pupils contract sharply. He immediately took several steps back, accidentally knocking over a nearby stool in the process.

"You..." His lips moved as if to say something, but after stuttering for a while, no coherent words emerged.

Clenching his fists tightly, the man fled in panic under the woman’s amused gaze.

"Such a pure soul." Supporting her chin with one hand, Ruan Yuan stared in the direction of his escape and couldn’t help but laugh.

Next door.

Shi Yin sat dumbfounded on the sofa, occasionally rubbing the spot on his cheek that had been kissed, his heart racing uncontrollably.

As the night outside grew hazy, the man, after sitting still for more than ten minutes, finally took out his phone from his pocket.

He opened Baidu and, after hesitating and revising many times, typed out a line in black:

’What does it mean when a woman kisses your cheek?’

As soon as he pressed "Enter," numerous pages appeared on the screen.

’Bro, are you trying to flex? Is being kissed by a woman that big a deal?’

’I got kissed by my goddess yesterday too. Now she’s still outside my house, waiting for an answer from me.’

’Hah, getting kissed by one woman is nothing. I have a whole line of them waiting to kiss me every day.’

’...’

Shi Yin browsed through the increasingly ridiculous responses but failed to find anything helpful.

Frowning in frustration, he exited the browser and, with his tightly knitted brow seemingly about to crush a fly, opened WeChat, searching for someone who could help him.

His finger hovered over Xu Linchuan’s avatar, ready to click, but he remembered his friend’s tendency to chatter endlessly and quickly shook his head.

He stared at the screen in contemplation for a while before finally deciding to send someone else a message.

Time ticked by, and after waiting for quite a while without receiving a reply, Shi Yin impatiently found the other person’s number.

"What is it?" Shi Wei, who was accompanying a girl watching Korean dramas, was interrupted by the ringing phone, his voice tinged with faint impatience.

"Well..." Upon hearing his voice, Shi Yin suddenly didn’t know how to explain.

After a long hesitation and nearly getting hung up on, he finally spoke: "Someone kissed me."

Shi Wei: "..."

The accusatory tone made it sound like he was tattling, as though someone had hit him back when he was a child.

If it weren’t for the fact that his hearing was perfectly fine, he would have wondered if he’d misheard.

"And then?" Shi Wei pinched the cheek of the girl beside him, signaling her to pause the show so they could finish the call.

"I don’t know what she meant by it." Shi Yin carefully recalled the past few days of interactions with Ruan Yuan and felt increasingly puzzled.

"What happened to you? You’re acting like Chen Cai now."

"How am I like him?"

"Equally dense." Shi Wei truly couldn’t understand how his friend’s brain had developed over the past twenty-plus years.

Wasn’t it obvious? Why did he even need to ask?

Massaging his temples in exasperation, he said, "If you’re so curious, just kiss her back."

"Why..."

Before Shi Yin could finish his sentence, the call ended with a sudden busy tone.

Shi Yin dejectedly tossed his phone aside, lying down on the sofa and burying his head in a cushion, letting his racing thoughts run wild.

"Knock, knock, knock—"

The sound of knocking reached his ears. He ruffled his hair, quickly tidied up his clothes, and walked over to open the door.

"Would you like some fruit?" Ruan Yuan raised the plate in her hands slightly, her perfectly measured smile making her features appear even softer and more delicate.

Shi Yin instinctively moved further away from her, fearing she might pull another unexpected kissing stunt. "Thank you, but I’m good."

His gaze settled into a calm composure reminiscent of their first meeting. Though polite and amicable, there was now an unmistakable sense of distance.

Noticing the change in his demeanor, Ruan Yuan felt a pang of annoyance. If only she hadn’t been so impulsive earlier.

Her gaze lowered, a trace of sadness in her voice as she asked softly, "Are you angry?"

"No." Shi Yin understood what she was referring to, and the sincerity of his answer was evident.

Angry wasn’t quite it; he was more confused and troubled than anything.

After a few seconds of silence, Ruan Yuan shoved the plate of fruit into his hands. Forcing a faint smile, she said, "You should still eat some. I’ll head back now."

With that, she quickly ran to the apartment across from his, leaving behind a figure laden with sadness.

Shi Yin glanced down at the fruit in his hands, suppressing the inexplicably bittersweet feeling in his heart, and quietly closed the door.

**

"Who was that?" The girl resting against the man’s chest, curious after hearing the phone call, tilted her head to look at him.

Shi Wei wrapped his arm around her soft waist, brushing away the strands of hair near her temple before kissing the corner of her lips. "Shi Yin."

The girl’s eyes flickered with a trace of surprise. She placed her notebook aside, sitting up straighter. "Did he say Ruan Yuan kissed him?"

"Mm, probably."

"Did he say where she kissed him?" Yu Zhi’s eyes lit up, an excited expression taking over her face.

She had thought it might take some time before hearing progress between the two, but it seemed things were moving faster than expected.

"Likely on his cheek." Knowing Shi Yin’s personality, if she had kissed anywhere else, he probably wouldn’t even sleep tonight. He might have gone on and on about it instead.

Seeing the girl’s radiant smile, Shi Wei curled his fingers and lightly tapped her nose, teasing, "When will Zhizhi take the initiative to kiss me?"

"I’ve done that before!" The girl earnestly began listing the times and instances she had been proactive, afraid he had forgotten.

Her overly serious demeanor made Shi Wei’s mood lift with a chuckle.

He tickled her through the smooth pajama fabric, pulling her into his arms again, and let his hand wander beneath her hem.

"Not enough." He murmured against her cheek, his gaze drifting to her exposed collarbone as he chuckled warmly. "Zhizhi still isn’t proactive enough."

Feeling his increasingly bold movements and the touch of her bra clasp against her back, the girl’s cheeks flushed red.

"I don’t know how to..." She pushed his shoulders slightly, her trembling voice tinged with a hint of shyness.

"Don’t worry, I’ll teach you slowly in the future." Shi Wei’s eyes darkened as he ignored her protests, seating her on his lap.

He pressed play on the laptop, hoping the screen’s content would distract her.

While she became engrossed in the screen, his large hand on her back subtly slid down to her underarm.

"Shi Wei!" The girl turned around, her face now a visible shade of crimson, glaring at him.

Her hazel eyes, shimmering with tenderness, seemed to invite exploration, beckoning him closer.

"Don’t give me that look." Covering her eyes with one hand, his raspy tone was full of suppressed emotion.

He brushed his nose against her cheek, their breaths mingling, until his lips touched hers softly.

The fallen laptop nearby continued playing sounds in Korean, mingled with quiet murmurs that filled the bedroom.

Only after the ending theme played did the two, nestled in bed and out of breath, reluctantly separate.

The girl rested her head against his shoulder, her breathing slowly stabilizing under his gentle pats.

In a quiet voice, she said, "Do you need me to help you?"

Despite knowing he had brought this upon himself, she couldn’t help but feel a bit sympathetic.

"No, I’ll be fine soon." Shi Wei pulled her closer, stroking her soft black hair.

His heart was utterly full, overwhelmed by her concern and tenderness.
