Chapter 143 - 142: Will you always like me?

Chapter 143: 142: Will you always like me?

"Did the boss send this?" A man in black leaned in curiously. "What did he say?"

Chen Cai leisurely opened the message, rubbed his eyes, and read it out loud for everyone: "The boss said, ’If the fabric isn’t delivered within half an hour, go to HR tomorrow and resign.’

The men in black: "..."

They looked at Chen Cai, whose cheeks were slightly flushed, with sympathetic expressions and shook their heads discreetly.

"Why are you looking at me like that?" Chen Cai slapped his thigh, chuckling foolishly. "The boss told me to go tomorrow to—"

"To... resign?" Realizing what had happened, he shot up like a bolt, and the alcohol haze seemed to evaporate instantly.

Chen Cai reread the message, swallowed hard in fear, and quickly replied with a trembling "Got it."

"What are you all standing around for? If I get fired, you won’t be safe either!" Chen Cai tucked his phone away and shot a fierce glare at them.

’Clang—clang!’

The sound of bottles hitting the floor echoed repeatedly. Eight or nine men in black stood up simultaneously, causing the guests at nearby tables to halt their conversations and instinctively glance over.

Chen Cai straightened his back, waved at them amidst the suspicious and frightened stares, and took the lead in stepping out.

Twenty-nine minutes later.

Several men in black were standing at the Shi Family’s gate, each holding piles of colorful fabric. The leader’s forehead was drenched in sweat, panting heavily as he knocked on the door.

As the sound of footsteps grew clearer, he took a deep breath and tried to steady himself.

"Boss, everything you wanted is here." Chen Cai glanced at the man in a bathrobe and stepped aside to reveal the fabric carried by the others behind him.

Shi Wei leaned against the doorframe, lazily drying his damp hair with a towel, his gaze sharp and icy. "Had a good time drinking?"

His voice was calm, betraying no emotion, but it made Chen Cai sweat even more. "Boss, every day I cannot ease your troubles is a day I cannot truly be happy."

He lifted his head and flashed an incredibly sincere smile, as though every word came from the depths of his heart.

"Hah." Shi Wei chuckled disdainfully, threw the towel onto Chen Cai’s face, and brushed his hanging hair strands aside. "No quarterly bonus for you."

Chen Cai: "!!!"

He stared at Shi Wei in horror, feeling as if his blood circulation had come to a halt.

The money! It’s all money! Is there any punishment crueler than this?

"What? Have a problem?" Shi Wei tucked his hands into his pockets, raising an elegant eyebrow.

The corners of his lips carried a faint smirk. Though he was smiling, it multiplied the fear in Chen Cai’s heart several times over.

"No, no." Chen Cai shook his head furiously, scared that Shi Wei might pull something out of his pocket in the next second and beat him with it.

Shi Wei gave him a bland glance, nudged the door open with his foot, and signaled the men in black to follow.

In the master bedroom’s bathroom, layers of mist swirled in the air, creating an ethereal and otherworldly scene, dreamy yet unreal.

A young girl emerged slowly from the white haze. She stood by the mirror, her fingers hooking a basket of small clothing, and suddenly froze.

Her mind flashed back to the spider she had seen last time, causing her arm to sprout a wave of goosebumps. She quickly dressed, threw a towel around herself, and opened the door.

The man was sitting on the sofa, smoking. Hearing her movement, he immediately stubbed out the cigarette between his fingers, stood up, and guided her by the hand to sit down beside him.

"The fabric has been delivered." Shi Wei kissed her lips gently, picked up the blow dryer prepared earlier on the table, turned it on, and began drying her hair.

Yu Zhi responded softly, tilting her head upward to stare unblinkingly at the white underside of his jaw, curling her fingers to grab the belt of his bathrobe.

Shi Wei worked meticulously, handling her hair with light, delicate movements. Each strand he blew dry tickled in a way that made her squint in comfort.

"Shi Wei."

The young girl’s clear voice drifted into his ears. He lowered his head to find her wrapping both arms around his waist, resting her forehead against his abdomen.

"What is it?" Shi Wei tousled her hair, his almond-shaped eyes filled with a warm smile.

"Nothing, I just wanted to call your name."

For some reason, she found herself more and more fond of being with him, as though only by his side could she temporarily drop all her defenses.

Shi Wei turned off the blow dryer and crouched down before her, locking eyes with her clean, amber ones. "Zhizhi, what’s on your mind?"

His eyes were filled entirely with her figure, as if no one else in the world could occupy their space.

Yu Zhi bit her lip, dodging his gaze, lowered her head, and toyed nervously with his belt.

In a soft murmur, she asked, "Will you always like me?"

"I will."

"What if... what if I’m different from others?" Her long hair cascaded over her shoulders, brushing her cheeks as her butterfly-like eyelashes fluttered.

Shi Wei noticed her unease and gently cupped her chin, tilting her face upward.

His gaze was unwavering. "No matter what makes you different, if it’s you, I’ll like it."

The girl stared at him for a few seconds, the anxiety and doubt in her eyes gradually dissipating under his tender gaze, like clouds parting to reveal a radiant beam of sunlight.

Yu Zhi suddenly smiled. She let go of his belt, wrapped her arms around his neck, and rested on his broad shoulder.

"Don’t overthink things in the future, okay?" Shi Wei pinched her soft cheek, holding her close on the sofa so she faced him directly.

"Okay." The girl shifted her position, leaning closer against his chest. She pointed to the blow dryer, "My hair isn’t dry yet."

The sweet scent of peaches wafted into Shi Wei’s nose. He tilted his head to move away slightly from her warm breath on his neck.

Shi Wei held her waist as he leaned to his right, reaching for the dryer.

Yu Zhi: "..."

She froze for two seconds, then shyly buried her face in his neck. "I didn’t mean to."

She had only been trying to find a comfortable position. Who knew he’d react so sensitively...

"Don’t move." Shi Wei tightened his grip on her waist and murmured darkly against her ear, his voice growing husky. "I’ll deal with you in a few days."

If it weren’t for her current physical condition, he would have taught her a proper lesson right then—she really did have a habit of fidgeting too much.
