The Mighty Mage
Chapter 381: Scam?

Chapter 381: Chapter 381: Scam?

Her eyes widened as she read the words.

"A thousand-year-old thunder mystic seed has been sighted at Lightning Mountain. It is said to be embedded deep within the mountain, surrounded by dangerous lightning storms. No one has been able to retrieve it yet."

Gu Jin’s heart raced with excitement. A thousand-year-old thunder mystic seed! This was better than anything she had hoped for.

A smile spread across her face as she carefully rolled the scroll back up and tucked it into her bag.

"Lightning Mountain," she muttered to herself. "That’s where I’ll find it."

Feeling thrilled by the discovery, Gu Jin made her way back to her room, her mind buzzing with plans.

She knew the journey wouldn’t be easy, but the reward was worth every risk.

Once in her space, Gu Jin wore the Elemental Harmony Necklace and felt satisfied by the rapid flow of mana.

When Gu Jin slipped the soul resonance ring on her finger, a magical scene appeared.

The ring suddenly vanished.

One second.

Two seconds.

"What the heck!" Gu Jin looked around in the hope of finding the ring but found nothing.

"Did I get scammed?" Gu Jin questioned herself.

She had heard of the latest scam where the cultivator would buy the item and on returning home the item would disappear.

So did she get scammed?

The owner indeed looked suspicious!

Gu Jin hurriedly tried to check the bill but realized that she had forgotten to take the bill.

Gu Jin: "...!"

"No...how can I be scammed? It must be around!" Gu Jin muttered.

"Master what happened?" The space’s nonchalant voice broke Gu Jin’s train of thought.

"Ring...the soul resonance ring!" Gu Jin muttered in a dazed voice.

She was on the verge of a breakdown.

50 million wasn’t a big amount for her, but the fact that she was scammed of 50 million yuan, made her feel terrible.

Just how much of a stupid person was she, that she couldn’t even differentiate between a scam and genuine items?

But the main problem was the seller!

He must be reported!

Gu Jin was filled with righteous indignation.

She wanted to report the seller to the principal and make sure he would be expelled from the university.

"Ring? Master, are you talking about the ring you just wore on your index finger?" The space asked in a slightly worried voice.

Gu Jin suddenly froze before turning completely silent,

"What is it? What did you do with the ring?"

"Master...I ate it..." The space was silent before replying in a low voice.

Gu Jin: "..." So I was blaming the shop owner for no reason?

"Why?" A single word was filled with exhaustion hard to ignore.

Just a few minutes ago, Gu Jin started to question her own insight and life.

Now...it seemed as if she was overthinking everything.

"That...I thought it was a snack..." The space replied in a small voice.

"Snack?" Gu Jin was speechless. "Do you even know how much that snack was worth? 50 million yuan!"

If it was before, Gu Jin might not have scolded the space for eating the ring, but now she felt a mix of frustration and disbelief.

50 million yuan as a snack...Gu Jin doubted that even the Gu Family won’t be able to afford the space’s appetite.

"Why would you think a ring is a snack? It’s not even edible!" Gu Jin exclaimed, her voice rising slightly.

The space replied sheepishly, "I thought it looked shiny and delicious! I didn’t know it was so expensive."

Gu Jin sighed heavily, rubbing her temples. "Great. Just great. Now I have no ring and I’m out 50 million yuan because you thought it was a snack!"

"I’m really sorry, Master," the space said quickly. "I promise I won’t eat anything else that looks shiny again!"

Gu Jin didn’t delve into the topic, instead, she decided to go to the market once more and buy the bracelet.

"Master...what was the function of the ring anyway?" The space asked it sounded a bit strange.

"Hm? It can increase the cultivation speed."

There was silence for a while and just when Gu Jin was about to leave, she froze.

"Is it my imagination...or the flow of mana had increased drastically around me?" Gu Jin said.

Thinking it was because of the necklace, Gu Jin removed it, only to realize that the necklace was part of the reason for the sudden increase in mana.

"Wait...space, is it possible that you have absorbed the property of the ring too?" Gu Jin questioned, her eyes sparkling.

"From the looks of it..yes master." The space replied.

Gu Jin’s eyes widened in surprise.

"Really? So you mean I still have the benefits of the ring even though it’s gone?"

"Seems like it," the space said, sounding a bit proud. "I absorbed its power when I ate it."

Even if she lost 50 million yuan, this was a win in her book! She could still cultivate faster.

"Wait, I will buy more rings." Gu Jin said with an excited expression.

There was a reason as to why mages don’t buy cultivation artifacts.

A cultivator can at most wear three to four cultivation items at a time.

Gu Jin already had a ring, and with the addition of a necklace and soul resonance ring, she had reached her limit.

If the space can absorb more rings, does she still need to see if she has reached her limit or not?

Gu Jin’s mind raced with possibilities.

"If you can absorb the power of the rings, then I should get more! Maybe I can find a way to stack their effects!"

"Master...I don’t want to praise myself, I do seem very useful." The space praised itself.

"Right! But first, let’s go back to that stall and see if they have more rings!" Gu Jin said eagerly.

The space: "..." My master is too busy to notice me!

With her heart pounding in excitement, she headed back to the market.

When she reached the stall where she bought the Soul Resonance Ring before, she saw that the senior was still there.

"Hey again!" Gu Jin called out as she approached him.

The senior looked up and smiled warmly. "Welcome back! Did you enjoy your new items?"

"I did! But now I want to buy more rings," Gu Jin said without hesitation.

The senior raised an eyebrow in surprise before pointing toward the signboard,

"Please read that first."

Gu Jin gave a quick glance in the direction the senior had asked her and nodded,

"I won’t come back to ask for a refund."

"Are you sure? In case, you might have forgotten, each mage can only wear 3 to 4 cultivation items. Any artifact you wear after that will be ineffective." The senior warned.

Gu Jin nodded.

"I know! I know."

Seeing her excitement, the senior sighed and gave up on warning Gu Jin again.

He rummaged through his display and pulled out several different rings.

Each one looked unique and had its own special design.

"This one is called the Spirit Link Ring," he explained as he held up a ring with swirling blue patterns. "It enhances the cultivation speed by 1.5 times."

Gu Jin’s eyes sparkled with interest as he continued showing her other options.

"And this one here is known as the Thunderbolt Band," he said while holding up a ring that shimmered like lightning.

"It boosts your cultivation speed by 2 times when you’re near thunder or lightning sources."

Gu Jin felt her excitement grow even more at that one! "That sounds perfect for me!"

"Lastly," he said while picking up another ring that glowed softly, "this is called the Elemental Shield Ring; it helps protect you from elemental attacks while boosting your cultivation speed by 1.8 times."

"Wait...these last two seem much better than what you sold me." Gu Jin frowned.

The senior gave a polite smile,

"I just stocked up on them."

Of course, the senior wouldn’t accept that at first, he thought Gu Jin was one of the customers who just strolled and didn’t buy and hence kept expensive and useful artifacts hidden.

"Which ones are you interested in?" he asked patiently.

"I want all three!" Gu Jin declared confidently.

The senior smiled but then raised an eyebrow at her request. "That’ll be quite a bit of money—around 150 million yuan total."

Gu Jin’s heart sank for a moment when she heard how much it would cost but then remembered what had happened earlier with her lost ring—and how much potential these new ones could bring!

"I’ll take them!" she insisted bravely despite not having enough money on hand right now.

"Are you sure?" The senior asked cautiously.

"Yes." Gu Jin nodded.

The senior thought for a moment before showing a bright smile,

"Thank you for shopping from stall, come back later."

In the end, when she returned to her room, she quickly wore three rings and waited for the space to gobble up the ring.

Glup.

Glup.

Just like before the ring vanished from Gu Jin’s hand.
