The Mighty Mage
Chapter 366: Blue Light

Chapter 366: Chapter 366: Blue Light

He stepped into the center of the field, cracking his knuckles. "Don’t say I didn’t warn you, Senior Long."

Long Yifan didn’t reply. He simply stood there, his hands behind his back.

Zhao Ming unleashed a powerful fire spell, flames roaring toward Long Yifan with intense heat.

The crowd held their breath.

But just as the flames were about to hit, Long Yifan raised a single hand. A faint blue light surrounded him, and the flames dissolved into nothing.

Silence.

The students were stunned.

"What just happened?"

"He...he canceled the attack without even moving!"

"Hey, what was that blue light?"

"I don’t know."

"It was so cool, I want it too."

Gu Jin stared at Long Yifan with a thoughtful look. She was observing Long Yifan all the time, and to her surprise, he didn’t even move a finger.

That means...the blue light wasn’t a spell...it was more like a...artifact’s protective barrier.

Once Gu Jin figured it out, it didn’t take others to do it too.

Someone from Zhao Ming’s circle tugged on his sleeves and said, "Hey...I think that blue light might be an artifact’s protection."

Zhao Ming’s face twisted in embarrassment as the realization dawned on him.

"An artifact? So, you’re using external tools to defend yourself?"

The murmurs among the students grew louder.

"That’s cheating!"

"No wonder he didn’t even move. It wasn’t his own strength."

"Guess he’s not as powerful as he wants us to believe."

Long Yifan remained calm, his expression unchanging as he looked at Zhao Ming. He neither declined nor accepted the accusation.

"And what if it is an artifact?"

Zhao Ming scoffed.

"Then it’s not a fair fight! You didn’t rely on your own abilities."

Long Yifan smirked, stepping closer.

"Do you know what makes someone strong? It’s not about flashy spells or raw power. It’s about using every resource available to achieve your goal.

If we were in a real battle, do you think the other party won’t try to cheat? Heh. If chance is given, the opponent will try everything to win."

Instructor Zhou stared at Long Yifan with a complex gaze.

If he hadn’t known that the blue light protecting Long Yifan wasn’t actually an artifact, he might have been dazed.

Zhao Ming wasn’t convinced, "Cheating is cheating! You can’t justify it!"

Long Yifan chuckled,

"Alright, if your friend and you together can stand against my one blow, I will back out from this position."

Before Zhao Ming could agree, the Instructor stopped him,

"Don’t. Yifan, he is just a child."

Zhao Ming’s face turned red, but he didn’t dare argue with Instructor Zhou. Instead, he muttered under his breath, "I’m not a child..."

Long Yifan smirked, his piercing blue eyes glinting. "Smart choice, Instructor. They wouldn’t stand a chance."

The crowd murmured, some students still unsure how to feel about the situation.

"Why does he talk like he’s unstoppable?"

"Maybe because he is?"

"Or maybe he’s just full of himself."

Gu Jin, who had been watching silently, finally spoke up. Her calm voice cut through the chatter.

"Why do you care so much about proving yourself, Senior Long?"

The question made everyone pause, their attention shifting to her.

Long Yifan turned his gaze to Gu Jin. For a moment, his confident expression softened.

"It’s not about proving myself," he said slowly. "I don’t want to wrong you all. I want you all to know that you are learning from the best."

"Then stop provoking others and start teaching. You are wasting our time." Gu Jin said bluntly.

Long Yifan: "..." Well I expected this.

The students were stunned by Gu Jin’s bluntness.

"My god...Is Gu Jin in her right mind? The last time Gu Aihan dared to insult Long Yifan in public, her dirty laundry was aired for the next 10 days."

Not everyone was blind. Some knew about Gu Aihan’s two-faced nature.

They had also seen, that even though Long Yifan tolerated Gu Aihan, he never accepted her publicly, there were also times when Gu Aihan insulted Long Yifan’s mother.

During those times, Long Yifan would simply air Gu Aihan’s dirty laundry causing her to hide herself.

"Gu Jin is done for."

"For sure."

As expected Long Yifan’s voice sounded,

"Miss Gu Jin, is this the way to talk with your instructor?"

Gu Jin coldly chuckled and was about to retort when Long Yifan continued,

"As punishment for your behavior, you will have to eat a strawberry cake."

Gu Jin: "..."

The students: "..."

What?

One of the female students instantly shouted,

"Instructor instead of using such a cheap tactic show some real moves, I despise your behavior!"

Long Yifan turned his calm gaze toward the shouting girl, his lips curving into a slight smile.

"You despise my behavior? That’s fine. But let me ask you this—would you prefer I punish Gu Jin with physical labor or expulsion instead?"

The girl hesitated, her confidence faltering.

"I... uh... No, but—"

"But what?" Long Yifan interrupted, his tone still calm but firm.

"Discipline doesn’t always have to be harsh. Sometimes, a little embarrassment teaches more than punishment ever could."

The students were stunned into silence.

Yan Mei leaned over to Gu Jin and whispered,

"Wow, he’s smooth. Annoying, but smooth."

Gu Jin didn’t respond, her cold gaze locked onto Long Yifan. She spoke, her tone steady,

"Instructor Long, if this is a joke, it’s not funny."

Long Yifan’s smile widened just a fraction.

"Oh, but I’m completely serious, Miss Gu Jin. Your behavior was improper, and as your instructor, I’m assigning you this task. Refuse, and we’ll escalate to something more... official."

The murmurs among the crowd started again.

"Why is he so fixated on her?"

"Is this... favoritism?"

"Favoritism? No way. It’s more like he’s trying to mess with her!"

"Then I would like to escalate the matter." Gu Jin said in a cold voice.

Long Yifan nodded his head,

"Since you want to be punished then instead of bringing your favorite strawberry cake from Delight, I will bring it from your second favorite cake shop Sweet County."

Gu Jin: "..."

One of the female students who liked Long Yifan’s appearance shouted,

"Stop provoking others and start teaching. You are wasting our time."

She wanted to attract Long Yifan’s attraction.

Long Yifan smirked and asked,

"What is your name?"

The female student was excited and shouted,

"I am Wei..."

However before she can complete her words, Long Yifan interrupts her,

"Student Wei, you are punished to run 20 laps around Beijing University. Once you finish, you will have to practice for one extra hour. "

Student Wei: "..." Mom, I don’t want to go to school!

Now no one dared to mock. Even Gu Jin turned silent. She honestly felt a bit embarrassed and yet found Long Yifan, a little amusing.

Only a little. That was all!

Luo Meng gritted his teeth and raised his hand,

"Senior Yifan can you start the training now?"

He honestly felt a bit threatened when he saw how Gu Jin only for a fraction second looked as if she would laugh.

Long Yifan calmly chuckled,

"Sure. But, before I start, I would like to say something to Mr. Luo too. Stealing credits can never lead you anywhere."

Luo Meng froze. His entire body turned cold.

Did Long Yifan know the truth?

Impossible! If he knew the truth why would he be so calm? Logically speaking, he should rush to Gu Jin and tell her everything right?

Just when Luo Meng thought, Long Yifan would expose him, he simply, turned and said,

"Let’s start the session. We will begin with a sparring session. Find a partner and one by one start to fight on the platform. I will point out the mistakes in your moves."

The students were surprised by the sudden change in topic but followed Long Yifan’s instructions.

Gu Jin paired with Yan Mei, who joked,

"Did you think I was an easy target and chose me?"

Gu Jin shook her head with a serious expression,

"I don’t think anyone can stand against my attacks other than you."

Yan Mei: "..."

The first battle began and once it ended, Long Yifan stared at the two students with a sharp gaze and pointed out their mistake,

"Your movements were too predictable," he said, pointing at the first student, a boy named Cheng Hao.

"You kept using fire spells, but you didn’t mix them with anything else. If you only rely on one element, you’ll get countered every time."

Cheng Hao looked down, scratching the back of his head.

"I... I thought if I just kept attacking, I’d win..."

Long Yifan sighed.

"Attacking is good, but it’s not everything. Strategy matters just as much as power. Remember that."

He turned to the second student, a girl named Lin Yue.

"And you," he said, his piercing blue eyes locking onto hers, "you were too defensive. You kept backing away, waiting for an opening. That’s fine in theory, but if you never create your own opening, you’ll lose."

Lin Yue frowned, her water spells still swirling faintly around her hands.

"But I thought staying calm was the best way to fight..."

"Calm is good," Long Yifan said.
