Chapter 348: Chapter 348: Fiance

Mrs. Gu stepped forward, shaking her head firmly.

"No, Jin’er, that won’t do! You’re my daughter. How can I let you live in a dormitory when your home is right here? This house is big enough for you to have everything you need and more."

Gu Jin blinked, caught off guard by Mrs. Gu’s sudden determination. Before she could respond, Mr. Gu joined in, his tone decisive.

"Jichun is right," he said. "You should be living here with your family. I’ll have the servants prepare the best room for you. Anything you need, it will be done."

Gu Jin hesitated.

The dormitory gave her space and freedom, and she wasn’t sure she was ready to move back into such an overwhelming environment.

But as she looked at Mrs. Gu’s hopeful face and Mr. Gu’s firm resolve, her defenses began to crack.

"You don’t have to go back to the dorm," Mrs. Gu added, stepping closer and taking Gu Jin’s hand in hers.

"We’ve missed so many years with you, Jin’er. Let us make it up to you. Let us take care of you."

"But I can move back. It is the rule of the university." Gu Jin sighed.

"Then...how about staying with us during the day and going back to the dormitory by night?" Mrs. Gu asked with an expectant gaze.

Gu Jin’s heart clenched.

"Alright," Gu Jin said softly, surprising even herself. "I’ll move back."

Mrs. Gu’s face lit up with joy, and she pulled Gu Jin into another hug. "Oh, my Jin’er! You don’t know how happy this makes me."

Mr. Gu nodded, his expression filled with satisfaction. "Good. I’ll make sure everything is ready for you by tomorrow."

Gu Jichun smirked from the side. "Looks like Jin’s finally coming home. Don’t forget to give her the best room, Dad. She deserves it."

"Of course," Mr. Gu replied. "She’ll have everything she needs."

Gu Jin glanced at Jichun, her cold demeanor softening for a moment.

"Then I will leave and bring back half of my belongings." Gu Jin muttered.

Gu Jihu who was watching the entire scene from the sideline, suddenly stood up and said,"

"Let’s go."

Gu Jichun decided to tag along. On the way she couldn’t help but muse, "I feel as if I have forgotten something."

Gu Jihu smirked. He knew what Gu Jichun was forgetting, but he didn’t want more people to vy for his sister’s attention, so he remained silent.

Once at the university, Gu Jin packed her stuff. She was about to leave when suddenly she met Yan Mei.

As Gu Jin was leaving the dormitory with Gu Jihu and Gu Jichun, a familiar voice called out her name.

She turned around, and before she could react, Yan Mei ran toward her and wrapped her in a tight hug.

"Gu Jin! You’re finally awake!" Yan Mei’s voice trembled with relief, and her arms clung tightly to Gu Jin, as though afraid she would disappear again.

Gu Jin blinked in surprise but didn’t pull away. Instead, she gently patted Yan Mei’s back.

"I’m fine, Yan Mei. There’s no need to worry."

Yan Mei stepped back, her eyes glistening with unshed tears.

"You don’t understand, Gu Jin. You’ve been unconscious for so long. We thought... we thought something terrible had happened to you."

Gu Jin’s brow furrowed slightly, her curiosity piqued.

"Unconscious? How long was I out? And what happened during that time?"

Yan Mei hesitated for a moment, her expression shifting as if she wasn’t sure how much to say. But under Gu Jin’s steady, questioning gaze, she finally relented.

"You were out for 15 days. At first, we thought it was just exhaustion, but then... you didn’t wake up. For ten whole days, Gu Jin! Ten days!"

Gu Jin’s face remained calm, but her mind raced. Fifteen days? That wasn’t normal. Something unusual must have happened.

"And on the eleventh day," Yan Mei continued, her voice lowering,

"your body started glowing. A bright green light surrounded you. It was... it was beautiful, but it also scared everyone."

Gu Jin’s expression hardened. A green light?

If her body emitted such energy, it would’ve been like a beacon for the beasts roaming the area.

Gu Jin’s sharp gaze snapped back to Yan Mei.

"If my body attracted attention like that, why didn’t the others... do something? Why wasn’t I kicked out of the safe zone?"

Yan Mei’s face turned pale, and she avoided Gu Jin’s eyes. She fidgeted nervously, her hesitation making Gu Jin’s suspicion grow stronger.

"Yan Mei," Gu Jin said firmly, her tone leaving no room for argument.

"Tell me the truth. What happened?"

Yan Mei bit her lip, glancing at Gu Jihu and Gu Jichun, who were watching the exchange with interest. Finally, after a long pause, she sighed and met Gu Jin’s gaze.

"You were kicked out," Yan Mei admitted quietly.

"The other students... they didn’t want to take the risk. They thought the glowing might attract beasts."

Yan Mei continued,

"But you weren’t alone. Long Yifan stayed by your side the entire time. He refused to leave you, no matter how dangerous it was. He said it wasn’t right to abandon you when you couldn’t even defend yourself."

Gu Jin froze, her mind reeling. Long Yifan?

"He... stayed with me?" Gu Jin asked, her voice quieter now.

Yan Mei nodded.

"Yes. He found a hidden spot in the forest and protected you from the beasts."

"Where is he now?" Gu Jin asked.

Yan Mei shrugged.

"I don’t know. We haven’t seen him yet. In fact...he was with you, right? Do you know where he is now?"

Gu Jin shook her head.

Yan Mei gave Gu Jin a worried look, her gaze flickering to Gu Jihu, who was leaning against the car with his arms crossed.

"Gu Jin, maybe you should ask Gu Aihan’s brother about this. He might know something."

Gu Jin didn’t correct Yan Mei.

She simply nodded. "Alright, I’ll ask him."

Relieved, Yan Mei gave a small smile.

"Take care of yourself, okay? I’ll see you later." With that, she waved and walked away, leaving Gu Jin alone with her thoughts.

Gu Jin turned and walked toward the car, where Gu Jihu was waiting.

"Brother Jihu," she began, her voice steady. "How did you find me back there? What happened?"

Gu Jihu’s sharp eyes studied her for a moment before he sighed, as though debating whether to tell her.

Finally, he spoke, his tone calm but deliberate.

"When I found you," he said, "you were being protected by someone. A young man with blue eyes and black hair."

Gu Jin’s heart skipped a beat. She clenched her fists, her mind immediately thinking of Long Yifan.

He had stayed by her side, even when everyone else had abandoned her.

"Was he..." Gu Jin hesitated, her voice quieter. "Was he alright?"

Gu Jihu shrugged, his tone nonchalant. "He was fine when I saw him. But he didn’t leave with us. He stayed behind."

Gu Jin frowned. "Why?"

"He was about to break through," Gu Jihu explained, his voice matter-of-fact.

"A breakthrough in his cultivation. But if he did it near us, it could’ve caused a huge disaster. So, he stayed in the Forgotten Elemental World to make sure no one else got hurt."

Gu Jin’s chest tightened. Long Yifan had risked everything to protect her and the others, even staying behind in such a dangerous place.

"Do you know him?" Gu Jihu asked suddenly, his tone curious but not pressing.

Gu Jin shook her head silently.

She didn’t trust her voice to remain steady.

She didn’t want to admit how much Long Yifan’s actions had affected her, or how much she wanted to go back and find him.

She had made her decision: she wasn’t going to look back.

Gu Jihu raised an eyebrow at her response but didn’t push further.

"Well, if you’re not going after him, I guess that’s that. He seemed capable enough to take care of himself."

Gu Jin nodded, her face calm even as her emotions swirled beneath the surface.

She climbed into the car, sitting quietly as they drove away from the university

The car ride was quiet for a while, the sound of the engine humming softly in the background.

Suddenly, Gu Jichun broke the silence, her tone casual but her words sharp. "By the way, Jin’er, did you know you have a fiancé?"

Gu Jin stiffened, her heart skipping a beat.

She knew exactly who Gu Jichun was talking about, but she wasn’t about to let it show.

She turned her gaze to her sister, her expression carefully indifferent. "Oh? Who is he?"

Gu Jichun’s grin faltered for a moment, turning into a sheepish smile.

"Uh, actually... I don’t know." She let out an awkward laugh and scratched the back of her head. "I just heard about it from Mom and Dad. They didn’t tell me much."

Gu Jin shifted her attention to Gu Jihu, who was sitting beside her in the backseat.

His face was as unreadable as ever, but she decided to ask anyway.

"What about you, Brother Jihu? Do you know anything about this fiancé?"
