Chapter 347: Promise
Chapter 347: Chapter 347: Promise
Mr. Gu’s face hardened as he turned to the servants standing by the door. His voice was cold, void of any warmth.
"Take her out," he commanded, his tone brooking no argument. "I don’t want her in this house anymore."
The servants hesitated for a moment, their eyes flickering to Mrs. Gu, but she didn’t say a word. Her lips trembled, and she clutched her hands together tightly, unable to meet Aihan’s gaze.
"No!" Aihan screamed, scrambling to her feet. Her tear-streaked face was pale with desperation. "You can’t do this to me! I won’t leave! This is my home!"
She clung to the edge of the table, her fingers turning white as she resisted the servants who approached her.
"Please! I’m begging you! Don’t throw me out! I’ll do anything—anything!" she cried, her voice cracking.
But Mr. Gu’s expression didn’t waver. His eyes were cold, as though he was looking at a stranger.
"You brought this on yourself, Aihan," he said, his tone icy. "You have no place here anymore."
The servants, though reluctant, grabbed Aihan by her arms and began dragging her toward the door. She kicked and screamed, her nails clawing at the walls and furniture as they pulled her away.
"Let me go! I’m not leaving! This is my family!" she shrieked, her voice echoing through the halls.
Mrs. Gu covered her mouth with her hands, tears streaming down her face. Mr. Gu stood firm, his fists clenched as he watched the scene unfold.
Eventually, the door slammed shut behind Aihan. Her screams faded into the distance, leaving a heavy silence in the room.
Gu Jin stood calmly, her icy gaze fixed on the closed door. She showed no emotion, as though Aihan’s desperate pleas hadn’t fazed her in the slightest.
But Gu Jichun wasn’t as composed. She turned to Mr. Gu, her voice trembling but filled with anger.
"That’s it?" she asked sharply. "You’re just going to let her go? After everything she did, you think throwing her out is enough?"
Mr. Gu’s jaw tightened. He looked at his younger daughter, his stern expression softening just slightly.
"I haven’t finished dealing with her yet," he said, his tone firm. "She will pay for what she’s done. I promise you that."
He stepped closer to her, his voice lowering as guilt seeped into his words.
"Jichun, I’m sorry. I’m sorry for everything you’ve had to endure because of her. For the years we... we didn’t see the truth. We failed you, and I will never forgive myself for that."
Gu Jichun didn’t respond immediately. Her arms crossed tightly over her chest, and she looked away, her face hard.
"You should’ve realized it sooner," she said quietly, her voice laced with bitterness.
"Even when you knew she was wrong, you still chose her. You were blinded by her lies, and I was the one who suffered."
Her words hit Mr. Gu like a blow, and he lowered his head, unable to meet her gaze. Mrs. Gu sobbed quietly in the background, her face buried in her hands.
Sensing the heavy tension in the room, Gu Jin stepped forward. Her cold exterior softened just a fraction as she placed a hand on Jichun’s shoulder.
"Jichun," Gu Jin said in a low voice, "you don’t have to forgive them. Not now, not ever. But I will make sure she pays for everything. I’ll take revenge for you."
Her words were calm but carried a dangerous edge, a promise laced with steel.
Gu Jichun’s walls finally crumbled. Tears streamed down her face as she turned to Gu Jin, wrapping her arms around her tightly.
"You’re my angel, Jin," she sobbed into her sister’s shoulder.
In that moment, the bond between the two sisters was stronger than any betrayal, any lie, or any pain they had endured.
As Gu Jichun cried into Gu Jin’s shoulder, Gu Jin’s eyes glinted with an icy resolve.
She would make Aihan regret ever crossing them.
Mr. Gu coughed, breaking the heavy silence in the room.
Gu Jichun immediately let go of Gu Jin and stepped back, wiping her tears hurriedly.
Her face flushed with embarrassment as she avoided everyone’s gaze.
Mrs. Gu, who had been silently crying, took a shaky step forward.
Her hands trembled as she reached out to Gu Jichun. She wrapped her arms tightly around her youngest daughter, holding her as though she’d disappear if she let go.
"I’m so sorry, Jichun," Mrs. Gu whispered, her voice cracking with emotion.
"I should’ve seen the truth. I should’ve protected you. Can you ever forgive me?"
Gu Jichun stood stiffly for a moment before finally leaning into her mother’s embrace.
Tears welled up in her eyes again, but she didn’t say anything. Her silence spoke louder than words, carrying both pain and a small hint of acceptance.
After a moment, Mrs. Gu let go of Jichun and turned to Gu Jin. Her eyes were red and swollen from crying.
She stepped closer to Gu Jin, her movements hesitant at first, but then she hugged her tightly.
"My Jin’er," Mrs. Gu said, her voice shaking.
"I’m sorry... I’m so sorry. I almost doubted you. I couldn’t see what was right in front of me. I failed as a mother. Can you forgive me for being so blind?"
She lifted her hand and awkwardly patted Mrs. Gu’s back.
"It’s fine," Gu Jin said softly, her usually cold voice carrying a faint trace of warmth. "You don’t need to apologize."
Inwardly, Gu Jin felt a strange flutter in her chest. She didn’t expect to feel happy, but she did.
It was a small, hesitant happiness, like a ray of sunlight breaking through storm clouds. For the first time in a long time, she felt... loved.
Mrs. Gu pulled back slightly, her hands resting on Gu Jin’s shoulders as she looked at her with tearful eyes.
"I’ll make it up to you," she promised. "I’ll do whatever it takes to give you the life you deserve."
"You love me, right?" Gu Jin asked suddenly, pulling away.
Mrs. Gu nodded hurriedly.
"Then can you promise me something?" Gu Jin blinked. Her eyes were clouded as if she was reeling some memories.
"Anything for my daughter." Mrs. Gu said. Her hands slowly caressed Gu Jin’s cheeks.
"Promise me, you will never leave me alone again. Promise me, you will stay by my side forever." Gu Jin muttered.
The scene of the car accident in her previous started to reel in her mind. She was truly scared. Scared that her mother would leave her.
After the accident, she always dreamt of turning the time back and saving her mother. However, those dreams never came true.
Now she was standing in magic world, with a person looking just like her mother and behavior similar to her mother, most importantly she was also related to Mrs. Gu biologically, made her believe that maybe...maybe it was the chance given to her by the god.
A chance to live a beautiful life with her parents and loved ones.
Mrs. Gu’s eyes watered. She thought maybe Gu Jin was talking about her childhood and instantly agreed, "I promise!"
Mr. Gu, who had been watching silently, cleared his throat and stepped forward. His expression was serious, but there was a softness in his eyes as he looked at Gu Jin.
"Jin’er," he began, his voice firm yet gentle, "you are my daughter. I want the world to know that. In three days, I’ll hold a banquet to announce your identity to everyone. You’ll take your rightful place in this family."
Gu Jin blinked, surprised by the announcement.
At first, she had been against acknowledging Mr. Gu and Mrs. Gu as her parents.
But now, as she looked at them—at their faces so full of regret and love—she felt her resolve waver.
For once, Gu Jin decided to be selfish. She wanted to experience this love, this warmth, even if it wasn’t forever.
"Alright," Gu Jin said quietly, her icy demeanor softening. "I’ll attend the banquet."
Her words brought visible relief to Mr. Gu and Mrs. Gu. Mrs. Gu smiled through her tears, while Mr. Gu nodded firmly.
"You won’t regret this," Mr. Gu promised. "I’ll make sure the world knows who you are and that no one will dare to look down on you ever again."
Gu Jin simply nodded, her usual cold expression returning. But inside, her heart felt just a little lighter.
For now, she would allow herself to be showered with love, to let these people fill the empty spaces in her heart.
Gu Jichun suddenly coughed and reminded her parents,
"Gu Jin is living in the dormitory of Beijing University."
Translation: You should bring her back and make a room for her.
Mr. Gu’s eyebrows rose slightly at Jichun’s words. He turned to Gu Jin, his face softening even more.
"You’re staying in a dormitory?" he asked, a hint of surprise in his voice.
Gu Jin nodded calmly, her expression unreadable. "Yes, it’s closer to campus, and I don’t mind staying there."
