The Mighty Mage -
Chapter 310: Give Up
Chapter 310: Chapter 310: Give Up
So he truly loves Gu Aihan a lot. Otherwise, why would he lie?
Long Yifan turned back to Gu Aihan. He wrapped his arms around her, pulling her close as if to shield her from the judging eyes of the onlookers.
The crowd’s murmurs grew louder, their opinions now sharply divided.
"This doesn’t add up... If Gu Jin saved him, why would he side with Gu Aihan?"
"Hey! He loves his fiance, why would he stand up for outsiders?"
"Exactly!"
Gu Jin’s fists clenched at her sides, her nails digging into her palms.
She could feel the tears burning at the back of her eyes, but she refused to let them fall.
She would not break, not in front of them. Not in front of him.
"Yifan..." she whispered to herself, her voice barely audible, "You fool."
But Long Yifan never looked back at her.
He kept his gaze firmly on the ground, his face pale and his hands trembling slightly as he held onto Gu Aihan like she was his lifeline.
Gu Aihan, on the other hand, was visibly smug, her confidence restored.
She even had the audacity to smirk at Gu Jin, her eyes gleaming with triumph.
"See?" Gu Aihan said sweetly, loud enough for those nearest to hear.
"Yifan would never lie to protect me if I had truly wronged him. He’s only telling the truth."
Some in the crowd, still under the illusion of her perfection, nodded along.
"Maybe we were too quick to judge her..."
"Yeah, they seem so in love. Maybe it’s just a big misunderstanding."
But others were not so easily swayed.
"No way... something’s off here. Did you see how reluctant he was? He’s lying, I’m sure of it."
Long Yifan didn’t respond to any of the comments.
He simply tightened his grip on Gu Aihan and, without a backward glance, started walking away.
His movements were stiff, almost robotic as if each step was a struggle.
Gu Jin stood frozen, her heart shattering with every step he took away from her.
But she knew, deep down, that it was over.
Long Yifan had made his choice. And it wasn’t her.
As he reached the edge of the crowd, someone called out,
"Hey, Long Yifan! Are you really okay with this? Abandoning the woman who saved your life?"
He hesitated for the briefest of moments, his back stiffening as if the words had struck a chord.
But Gu Aihan whispered something in his ear, and whatever resolve he might have had crumbled instantly.
Without another word, he continued on his way, disappearing into the crowd with Gu Aihan still clinging to his side.
The moment they were gone, the campus square erupted into chaos, with everyone talking at once.
"This is crazy! Did you see the way he ignored Gu Jin? After she saved his life?!"
"I know I shouldn’t mock her...but Gu Jin seems pathetic now!"
"Indeed! I feel she is two-faced! I mean she loves a man who will never love her back!"
"Hahaha! From Long Yifan’s gaze, I can tell that he only likes Gu Aihan!"
But for Gu Jin, it was all just a blur. She stood there, staring at the spot where Long Yifan had disappeared.
She had given him one last chance, and he had thrown it away for a woman who didn’t deserve his loyalty.
Slowly, she turned away from the crowd, her expression hardening like stone.
If there was one thing she learned today, it was that some people were beyond saving, no matter how much you cared for them.
Her eyes flickered with a new determination as she walked away, her heart colder than ever.
It was truly time to move on.
She should just agree to Luo Meng’s proposal.
Emptying her mind, Gu Jin started to assess her surroundings.
What caught her attention was the dark blue vegetation of the island. Even though the island wasn’t properly visible to many due to scant moonlight, with her vision Gu Jin could easily make out the color of the trees around her.
The size of the tree though, obstructed Gu Jin’s view, causing her to furrow her brows.
She tried to have a clear view, of what lay behind the front line of tre, but even her vision had limitations.
The waves of the black sea were still hitting the shore, creating an unnerving calming sound.
90% of the students were able to make it to the shore, however, none of them were relieved.
The professor were assembling the students, and while a few students listened, many of them crouched in fear.
Gu Jin’s gaze unconsciously moved to the dark deep sea.
What caught her attention was the number of sea monsters staring in their direction. According to Gu Jin, there were around 100 or so.
A shiver ran down Gu Jin’s body.
There were too many strange things on the island.
Where were they? How did they land up in a completely absurd place? Weren’t going on military training? So why when they woke up, they found themselves to be in the deep sea?
Gu Jin stared at the pale faces of the professors and concluded that they had entered the wrong place.
Damn it!
Why are they so unlucky?
Or maybe it was her luck that caused everyone to be unlucky...
’Focus! Focus!’ Gu Jin scolded herself.
Her mind started to think of other details she missed earlier.
Why did the sea monsters not follow them to the shores? Because they will die once they leave the water? That wasn’t feasible. There should be some beast who can leave the sea, right?
Was it perhaps there was hiding something more dangerous on the island?
Gu Jin thought of something and dismissed the idea.
Due to the chaos not many focused on the sea creature, but she...When she returned to rescue Long Yifan, she caught a glimpse of a dark slimy sea creature.
The creature was as large as a football ground. Gu Jin could say so because the creature was at least 2 km away from her, yet all she could see was how far its body stretched.
It was far from the surface, but its tentacles could reach the surface easily.
Maybe it was too busy savoring the student it had already swallowed, it didn’t notice Gu Jin and Long Yifan’s presence at all.
That creature...if it could come out of the water...it would create utter chaos. If it wants it could swallow the entire island.
So why aren’t they leaving the sea?
Gu Jin suddenly thought about how she couldn’t use her elements and a bold thought appeared in her mind.
Without hesitation, Gu Jin tried to use her elements and unsurprisingly, she could only use her plant element and necromancy element.
She remembered how only the water element mage could easily leave the sea.
It means...
There were elemental restrictions on this strange island and the surrounding sea. It made sense now why they couldn’t fully utilize their powers.
It wasn’t just the terrain; it was as if this entire place was rigged to limit their capabilities.
Elemental Suppression Zones.
In the sea, only the water element mages had any advantage, while everyone else was practically powerless.
Here on the island, only those attuned to plant and earth elements could thrive, while fire, air, and other elements were rendered useless.
The professors were still desperately trying to organize the students, but Gu Jin knew better than to rely on them.
They were as lost as everyone else.
A sharp scream pierced the air, and chaos ensued.
One of the students had ventured too close to the water’s edge, and in an instant, a sea monster had dragged him under.
The waters churned with blood, and Gu Jin felt a cold shiver down her spine.
"Stay away from the shore!" one of the professors shouted, but it was too late. Panic was spreading like wildfire.
Gu Jin took a deep breath and tried her best to enter the space.
In any case, it is unscientific for her not to be able to enter the space.
Water occupies space. So space element should work, right?
Suddenly she thought of Long Yifan.
Why didn’t he use any artifact when he was drowning?
So strange...
No.
Maybe...maybe...no artifact would work here. Or maybe...Long Yifan could access his storage ring.
She snapped out of her daze when one of the professor’s loud voices sounded in her ears.
The professor’s voice cut through the chaos like a whip.
"Everyone, calm down!" he bellowed, his voice resonating over the panicked screams and murmurs.
"Do you think you will survive with this attitude? Pull yourselves together!"
The crowd began to settle, their terror-stricken faces turning toward him.
"Listen to me carefully," the professor continued, scanning the faces before him.
"We need to stay organized if we’re going to get through this. Healers, step forward and attend to the injured."
There was a brief silence before a group of students stepped out from the crowd.
They hurried to the few students who had been injured during the chaotic escape from the sea.
