The Mighty Mage
Chapter 308: Die

Chapter 308: Chapter 308: Die

The energy was draining his body with each passing second. Memorable moments of his life were flashing right before him, as water flooded in his lungs causing him to suffocate.

His bright blue eyes slowly turned dull.

With many elements in his possession, Long Yifan was confident he would never die due to the lack of elements, however now, all of his previous confidence seemed like a joke.

The imminent doom forced him to remember every single decision he regretted.

Unable to protect his mother.

Unable to protect his loyal friend.

Unable to reciprocate love to the one he truly loved.

Life was never fair to him. Whether it was magic or a personal relationship. Yet he never complained.

With the attitude of ’devil may care’ and ’live in the present’, he forced himself to look cheerful and playful.

How pathetic.

A question popped in his mind.

What will happen after his death?

Who will protect his sister?

’Don’t be complacent, she will eventually forget you like how your beloved woman did.’

Long Yifan’s eyes stung.

Maybe in Gu Jin’s eyes, he was truly an existence that could be forgotten easily.

However for him...she was his white moonlight. If only...if only he could tell her everything. How much he sacrificed for her, and how much he loves her...maybe then she will agree to give him a look of love, he longed to see in her eyes.

’What the f*ck are you even thinking? You are going to die!’

If there was a next life, he wished he didn’t have any obligations or promises to fulfill.

If there was a next life, he wished he could meet Gu Jin earlier.

With one last attempt to save himself, Long Yifan tried to swing up.

He regretted not taking swimming class due to his fear of water. At least his body would not be like it was now. Paralyzed with fear.

The bitter reality though slapped Long Yifan in his face, as he only further drowned himself. Just as he gave up, a black dot started to come near him.

Was it beast?

Or was it some kind of creature?

Long Yifan’s foggy mind barely registered the approaching figure—a silhouette cutting through the water with powerful, determined strokes.

Gu Jin.

What was she doing here?

When she broke the window of the bus and the students started to escape from it, Long Yifan saw her too.

He was relieved to see her leaving.

Even if he died, he wanted her to live.

However, now seeing her return caused him to have a bittersweet feeling in his heart.

Was she going to save him? Does she even know that he is drowning? No! She shouldn’t be here! She should leave!

Looking around he saw many students like him slowly falling into the depths of the deep water.

Maybe she was there to save one of her friends?

To his surprise, Gu Jin moved in his direction. It was as if she didn’t see anything...only him.

Long Yifan’s thoughts were messy, as Gu Jin approached him. Before he could speak, his eyes turned blurry and he fainted due to lack of oxygen.

Gu Jin’s heart skipped a beat when she saw Long Yifan’s eyes slowly closing.

Without a moment’s hesitation, she grabbed Long Yifan’s wrist, her grip like iron.

Her lungs were burning, her body screaming for air, but she refused to let go.

"Hold on!" she thought, though her words were lost in the churning water.

With a forceful kick, she propelled them both upward, fighting against the relentless pull of the sea.

She could feel the magical beasts circling below, their sleek bodies brushing against her legs, but she pushed down the rising tide of panic.

She had to move faster.

Her muscles screamed in protest, but she kept kicking, pulling them closer and closer to the surface.

The light above seemed so far away, yet she refused to give in to the darkness threatening to swallow her whole.

Just a little more...

With one final, desperate push, Gu Jin’s head broke the surface, and she sucked in a lungful of air.

The cold night air stung her throat, but it was a welcome relief after the suffocating depths.

Around them, the sea beasts were growing bolder, their glowing eyes reflecting the moonlight.

Gu Jin tightened her grip on Long Yifan and began swimming toward the distant shore, every stroke fueled by sheer willpower.

The other students had already made it to the shallows, collapsing onto the sand, gasping for breath.

Some turned back, eyes wide with disbelief as they watched Gu Jin struggle through the water, dragging Long Yifan with her.

"Is she crazy?!" someone shouted.

"Why didn’t she just save herself?"

"Who is that guy to her?"

But Gu Jin didn’t care about the murmurs or the curious stares. All that mattered was getting to solid ground.

As she neared the shore, a powerful wave crashed into them, nearly tearing Long Yifan from her grasp.

But Gu Jin refused to let go, her fingers digging into his arm with a vice-like grip.

Finally, her feet touched the sand, and she staggered forward, dragging them both out of the water.

The moment they were clear of the waves, Gu Jin collapsed onto the wet sand, her chest heaving as she sucked in deep, ragged breaths.

The onlookers were stunned into silence, their eyes wide as they watched the scene unfold.

After violently coughing for a long time, Gu Jin turned to look at Long Yifan who was still.

Fear engulfed Gu Jin’s heart and she instantly checked Long Yifan’s pulse.

Gu Jin’s hands trembled as she pressed her fingers to Long Yifan’s neck, searching desperately for a pulse.

Nothing.

Panic seized her chest, but she forced herself to stay calm.

"He’s not breathing!" she muttered under her breath.

The students on the shore watched in stunned silence, their faces pale in the moonlight.

Without wasting another second, Gu Jin knelt beside him, placing both hands over his sternum.

One, two, three, she counted in her head as she began compressions, her hands pumping with a force that belied her slender frame.

The students surrounding her gasped, some turning away, unable to watch.

But Gu Jin ignored them.

She couldn’t afford to be distracted.

Long Yifan’s face was turning a sickly shade of blue, and his chest remained stubbornly still.

"Come on, damn it!" she hissed through gritted teeth, her voice breaking.

She leaned down and pinched his nose shut, covering his mouth with hers.

One breath. Two breaths.

"Please," she whispered against his lips. "Don’t leave me like this."

She returned to the chest compressions, her movements growing more frantic, more desperate.

Her hair, wet and tangled, clung to her face, but she didn’t stop.

"Is she actually doing CPR?" someone murmured from the crowd, disbelief lacing their tone.

"My god!"

"Cheez! He is Gu Aihan’s fiance! Why is she kissing him!"

"That is very vulgar of her!"

"So she truly was here to flirt with Gu Aihan’s fiance?"

"Does this method even work?"

"It will if she is not just trying to taste the hunk’s lips!"

But Gu Jin didn’t care.

She pushed the onlookers’ whispers to the back of her mind, focusing solely on the lifeless form before her.

The thought of losing Long Yifan was so unbearable that she was ready to face the criticism.

With one last deep breath, she tilted his head back and blew into his mouth once more.

And then, miraculously, he jerked, water spurting from his mouth in a violent cough.

Long Yifan’s body convulsed as he rolled to his side, vomiting up a torrent of seawater.

Gu Jin slumped back, a shaky breath escaping her lips as she watched Long Yifan gasp for air, his eyes fluttering open.

"You’re okay," she whispered, her voice hoarse, relief washing over her like a tidal wave.

Long Yifan’s vision was blurry, but he could make out her face—those fierce, determined eyes that had haunted his dreams.

He coughed again, more seawater spilling from his lips as he struggled to sit up.

"Gu... Jin?" His voice was weak, barely a whisper.

Gu Jin tried her best to stay calm, but her trembling fingers revealed the truth.

"I am here." She said in a calm voice. From her face, no one could tell that she was the same woman who just first few minutes before was panicked.

Long Yifan’s heart skipped a beat.

Though he was unconscious he had heard and felt everything.

He also knew that Gu Jin was the one who saved him. His heart burst with joy.

Why did she save him...if she doesn’t like him?

No! She had the chance to not return to the sea and save him but she did! What does that mean?

Maybe...just maybe she still loves him...

Should he just forget the promise and be with her? His mother will understand his decision, right?

However, his thoughts were interrupted by a discordant voice.

"Oh my! Yifan! Are you alright?"
