Chapter 287: Evolutionary Skeleton Warrior
Chapter 287: Chapter 287: Evolutionary Skeleton Warrior
"Oh? Is that so?"
Gu Jin remained silent for a moment, letting Yu Sheng’s words sink in.
The cold air around her intensified as if the night itself was reacting to her growing anger.
Her eyes narrowed, but she kept her composure, not letting her emotions fully show.
"So," she finally said, her voice low and controlled, "Gu Aihan’s plan is to drive her own sister to suicide? How pathetic."
Yu Sheng gulped, feeling the pressure of her gaze, but didn’t dare to say anything more.
He knew he was already in deep trouble.
Gu Jin stood up slowly, dusting off her clothes as if preparing for something.
"You realize, Yu Sheng, that you’ve just admitted to being a tool in someone else’s hands, right? Following orders to ruin someone’s life—does that give you a sense of purpose?"
Yu Sheng’s lips trembled, but he remained silent.
He was terrified of what might happen next.
Gu Jin looked down at him, her face void of sympathy.
"Normally, I would consider ending your life right here. People like you, who destroy lives for money, don’t deserve a second chance. But..." she trailed off, her gaze shifting to the forest around them. "I’m not in the mood for killing tonight."
Yu Sheng let out a shaky breath, his body finally relaxing a little, but Gu Jin wasn’t done.
"However," she continued, her voice dropping to a near whisper, "I will let my skeleton warrior decide what to do with you."
She snapped her fingers, and the masked skeleton warrior stepped forward.
Yu Sheng’s eyes widened in horror, but before he could say anything, the skeleton warrior placed its bony hand over his mouth, silencing him.
His muffled cries were swallowed by the forest as the warrior dragged him deeper into the shadows, leaving Gu Jin standing alone in the clearing.
Gu Jin closed her eyes and took a deep breath.
She had to focus on the bigger picture now.
Gu Aihan was playing a dangerous game, but she wouldn’t allow her to hurt Gu Jichun anymore.
She would protect her, and more than that, she would expose Gu Aihan’s true nature.
Turning on her heel, Gu Jin headed back to the camp.
She would keep up the act for now, pretending not to know Gu Jichun for the next two months, as per her request.
But she had no intention of waiting passively.
Gu Jin was done with being a victim. It was time to strike back, and when she did, Gu Aihan wouldn’t see it coming.
Back at the camp, Gu Jichun was still fast asleep, oblivious to the dark confrontation that had just taken place.
Gu Jin watched her for a moment, her expression softening.
"Sleep well, Jichun," Gu Jin whispered softly. "I won’t let her win this time."
Returning to her tent, Gu Jin entered her space and went through the book containing all the information about necromancy elements.
She flipped the pages quickly and found out about the skeleton warrior with evolution potential.
The skeleton warrior who can evolve have very specific conditions for their evolution, they should be on par with the necromancer and should have the same element as the necromancer.
Gu Jin realized that none of the skeleton warriors she had awakened was a revolutionary type.
She started to read the possible reason why she couldn’t summon a skeleton warrior who was an evolutionary type.
As Gu Jin scanned the book, her brow furrowed.
The passages about evolutionary-type skeleton warriors were intricate and detailed, yet they all pointed to one key requirement: resonance.
The necromancer needed a deep, intrinsic connection with the elemental forces within their soul in order to summon such a warrior.
This resonance wasn’t just about power; it was about harmony.
Harmony? Resonance?
Suddenly, a section of the book caught her attention. It described a rare phenomenon: a "Soul Convergence."
According to the text, this convergence could occur only when a necromancer had unlocked the full potential of their own soul, connecting it with all the elements they had awakened.
The key was not just mastery, but emotional and mental alignment.
Only then could the necromancer summon a skeleton warrior capable of evolving alongside them.
Gu Jin thought of the passage for a long time and finally understood what it meant.
If a necromancer has deep resonance with his/her other elements, then the skeleton warrior they would summon can feel the resonance and would awaken an element similar to a necromancer too.
Which would fulfill the second condition.
But one line stood out to her:
"A necromancer must confront their deepest fears, desires, and unresolved past to achieve this convergence. Only through self-revelation can they achieve true resonance."
Gu Jin’s expression darkened. Was this why she hadn’t been able to summon an evolutionary warrior?
No.
There was no fear or desire she had.
So it should not be the reason.
Gu Jin continued to study the book for some more time before putting it away.
The next morning.
With her appearance recovered, Gu Jin decided to return to Fujio City while Gu Jichun decided to move forward with her plan.
Gu Jin hid three of her powerful skeleton warriors in Gu Jichun’s shadow, gave her a box filled with Earth Rank pill, and said,
"I hope the next time I meet I will have more gifts for you."
Gu Jichun who was stunned by the box filled with Earth Rank pills, lifted her head in a daze.
This was the first time in a long while since someone had given her a gift.
Gu Jin hugged Gu Jichun and said softly,
"I don’t know how hard-hearted Gu Aihan was, that she could bear to ruin your reputation. If I had a sister like you...I would have never let you face the harsh world and would fight for you."
Gu Jichun’s heart swelled with different emotions.
She had been so used to fighting her battles alone that Gu Jin’s words struck deep.
She could feel the genuine care and warmth behind the tough exterior Gu Jin often wore.
Tears welled up in her eyes, but she quickly blinked them away.
This wasn’t the time for tears; she needed to stay focused on her plan.
"I... I’ll do my best," Gu Jichun whispered, her voice thick with emotion.
"Thank you, Jin. You’ve given me more than I could have asked for."
Gu Jin smiled softly and released her from the hug.
She wanted to tell Gu Jichun that the bigger surprise was yet to come, but she held on and said,
"Okay now don’t be sad anymore. You should smile and let’s meet again after 2 months. This is my shop address in the capital. If you return come to this address."
Gu Jichun took the card without glancing and nodded.
Both of them hugged each other for a long time. They were reluctant to part. But after 8 minutes, they finally pulled away from each other and left in the opposite direction.
........
In capital.
In the dimly lit, cold expanse of the abandoned factory, the eerie echo of high heels clicking against the concrete floor grew louder with every step.
The metallic hum of the chains echoed faintly, amplifying the tension that hung in the air like a thick fog.
A lone woman walked in, her silhouette sharp, dressed immaculately in a tailored black suit, her lips curled into a faint, menacing smile.
Gu Aihan.
Her sharp gaze zeroed in on the figure bound by chains to a rusted pillar at the far end of the room.
Jin Mu, disheveled and bruised, was hunched forward, her hands shackled above her head, the heavy iron cuffs biting into her wrists.
Her face, though marred by exhaustion and pain, still held a defiant gleam in her eyes as she lifted her gaze to meet Gu Aihan’s.
"Well, well, Jin Mu," Gu Aihan’s voice was sickly sweet, laced with venom as she stopped just a few feet away.
"I hear you’ve been busy. You’re quite the brave one, aren’t you? Trying to dig into the Gu family’s past, doing something as audacious as a paternity test between Gu Jin and my eldest brother?"
Jin Mu’s heart raced but she kept her composure, her lips pressing into a thin line.
She wasn’t going to give Gu Aihan the satisfaction of seeing fear.
She knew the truth—she had uncovered it through dangerous channels.
Gu Jin was the rightful daughter of the Gu family, and Gu Aihan had no blood ties to the family she clung to so desperately.
But now, that truth had put her in chains.
"You already know the truth, don’t you?" Jin Mu’s voice was hoarse, her throat dry from hours of captivity.
She narrowed her eyes at Gu Aihan.
"Gu Jin is the real daughter of the Gu family, and you... you have no right to the Gu name or to anything in the Gu family. You’re nothing but an imposter."
For a moment, silence filled the room.
