The Mighty Mage -
Chapter 271: Alteration
Chapter 271: Chapter 271: Alteration
Even if he can’t have her in this life, he wants her to prosper and live a good life. Forget about him and...
Long Yifan’s heart started to ache the moment he thought of how Gu Jin might end up with someone else.
’Stop being a b*tch. You are going to be engaged soon. Don’t give her hope. Don’t let her know about your sacrifices. If you tell her...she might end up liking you.
Will you be able to love her then? What about the promise you had given to your mother? It’s better if she lives with someone else.’
Long Yifan took a deep breath to suppress his emotions.
Lamashtu, who had been watching in silence, finally stepped back, his eyes narrowing.
Long Yifan was far more powerful than he had anticipated, and if even Erinyes was struggling, then Lamashtu knew it would be wiser to wait for a better opportunity.
As the sixth and seventh bolts of lightning struck, Erinyes’s barrier shattered completely.
The eighth bolt slammed into him directly, sending him flying backward, his body crashing into the ground with a thunderous impact.
His black armor cracked under the force, and blood oozed from multiple wounds as he struggled to rise, his breath coming in ragged gasps.
Long Yifan did not give him time to recover.
With a flick of his wrist, the ninth and final bolt, the largest of them all, descended from the sky like the wrath of the gods.
It struck Erinyes dead center, and for a brief moment, the world seemed to freeze.
The ground beneath Erinyes caved in, forming a massive crater, and the parasite lord’s body convulsed as the electricity surged through him.
"Is he going to die?" Ren Fulin whispered.
Feng Boyu looked at Lamashtu and gritted his teeth,
"Why hasn’t he made a move? Don’t you think it’s suspicious?"
It was better if he didn’t point it out.
But now when he did, Ren Fulin started to feel something was amiss.
Feng Boyu muttered as he looked at Erinyes,
"He is about to die."
Sure enough, the next moment, Erinyes’s body suddenly stopped convulsing.
"Is it over? Is everything over, just like that?" Ren Fulin muttered he couldn’t believe that the entity who caused so much fear among them was murdered by the so-called weak second young master of the Long family.
"Hey! How can Long Yifan use his magic? And why did he save Gu Jin in the first place?" Ren Fulin asked in confusion.
The moment he pointed out that fact, Feng Boyu realized something and a smile appeared on his face,
"General Gu succeeded."
The only way, Heaven Rank Long Yifan could use his superpower in Fujio city is if...if the artifact was destroyed.
"But why did he help Gu Jin?" Ren Fulin asked.
"I don’t know." Feng Boyu shook his head.
Without another word, he turned away from Erinyes’s lifeless body and walked toward Si Kai, who lay injured but conscious on the ground.
Si Kai’s eyes widened in shock as Long Yifan approached, carrying Gu Jin gently in his arms.
The powerful aura that surrounded Long Yifan made him seem almost unapproachable.
Long Yifan knelt beside Si Kai, carefully passing Gu Jin into his arms.
Si Kai’s heart raced as he looked at his unconscious sister, but his confusion only deepened as he met Long Yifan’s cold, yet familiar, gaze.
"Who are you?" Si Kai asked, his voice barely above a whisper.
"Why are you helping my sister?"
Long Yifan’s eyes softened for just a brief moment, but the loneliness that flickered in them was unmistakable.
He didn’t answer Si Kai’s question. Instead, he offered the faintest of smiles—one filled with a thousand unspoken words and buried emotions.
Then, without another word, he rose to his feet and stepped back.
Si Kai watched in stunned silence as Long Yifan lifted himself into the sky, his wings unfurling behind him in a majestic display.
High above the battlefield, Long Yifan reached into the folds of his black cloak and pulled out a small, intricately carved black box.
His expression grew serious as he began chanting in an ancient language.
"What is he doing?" Ren Fulin asked curiously.
"I don’t know!" Feng Boyu shook his head in irritation.
"Forget me," Long Yifan commanded, his voice echoing with the weight of the spell.
"Forget what you’ve seen. Forget who I am. I am not Long Yifan."
A surge of dark energy enveloped him, and his eyes glowed with an intense black light.
"When you wake, you will remember me as a friend of Gu Jin... nothing more. Black eyes, black hairs. Not the man I truly am."
If they remembered him and told Gu Jin, the truth...she would never be able to move on.
As he spoke, the spell’s effects began to spread across the battlefield.
Ren Fulin and Feng Boyu, along with the other soldiers, blinked as their eyes grew hazy.
The magic altered their memories, erasing any trace of Long Yifan’s true identity from their minds.
The spell took root, and their expressions turned dazed, their thoughts rewritten.
Si Kai, too, succumbed to the enchantment, his eyes growing unfocused.
His memories of the mysterious stranger blurred, replaced with false images of someone else entirely.
He could no longer recall the face of the man who had just saved his sister.
Just as Long Yifan finished casting the spell, a violent tremor shook the ground beneath them.
Boom.
Erinyes’s body, which had seemed lifeless only moments ago, exploded with a sickening force.
Dark, foul-smelling smoke billowed from the remains, and from the wreckage,a towering figure emerged.
A creature with elastic, blackened skin, standing twice the height of an average human, rose from the rubble.
Its body twisted and contorted, its form monstrous and alien.
Its long, sinewy arms stretched unnaturally, and its glowing red eyes fixed on Long Yifan with malicious intent.
Lamashtu’s sinister chuckle filled the air.
"Ah, the true form of the parasite lord emerges. You’ve done well to defeat his mortal shell, Long Yifan, but now you’re in deep trouble.
This... this is Erinyes’s true form. His power has now surpassed that of a Heaven Rank mage."
The creature’s grotesque mouth opened wide, revealing rows of jagged, dripping teeth.
A low, guttural growl rumbled from its throat.
Long Yifan was a bit surprised but he didn’t show it on his face.
He was somewhat expecting something like this. How could a man powerful enough to kill anyone with the wave of his finger, can die with just one Heaven Rank spell?
However, one thing that made Long Yifan alert was...how powerful Erinyes’s aura was.
It was so oppressive that even he had difficulty in breathing,
’No...if this continues I will explode because of the pressure. I should use that...and leave before anyone could come to their senses.’
The Forbidden Art.
His mother’s words echoed in his mind: Never use it unless you have no other choice.
Long Yifan hesitated for a moment, but he knew this was the only way.
"I’m left with no choice..." he muttered to himself, his voice barely audible.
He lifted his hand to the sky, his fingers crackling with residual energy.
"I will break my limit, just this once."
Drawing on the deepest wells of his energy, he began to chant the ancient incantation.
His body glowed with an intense blue light as he invoked the forbidden art—a powerful and dangerous technique that temporarily boosted his strength beyond his natural limits but at a steep cost.
At most, he will be in a coma for 2 months and his cultivation would fall by one rank.
But to ensure that Gu Jin doesn’t know about his sacrifice, Long Yifan used the forbidden art.
The wind howled around him, and the sky grew dark once more. His aura expanded.
Erinyes as if sensing something pounced in Long Yifan’s direction to attack.
This time Lamashtu too, moved to attack Long Yifan. He could feel that if he didn’t stop Long Yifan, his lord would die for sure.
With a final, guttural cry, Long Yifan unleashed the full might of his enhanced strength.
"Thunder Dragon’s Wrath!"
A colossal bolt of lightning, larger and more powerful than anything he had ever summoned, materialized above him.
The air crackled with electric tension as the massive dragon-shaped bolt descended, roaring with the fury of the heavens.
The black creature that was once Erinyes roared in defiance, lashing out with its monstrous arms.
But it was too late.
The lightning dragon struck with unparalleled force, ripping through Erinyes’s mutated body and tearing him apart in one devastating blow.
The creature let out one final, anguished scream before it disintegrated into ash.
"Lord!" Lamashtu shouted. His eyes were filled with disbelief as he looked at floating ashes.
The battlefield fell silent once more.
Long Yifan, his body now weakened from the forbidden art, descended to the ground, his wings folding behind him.
His breathing was labored.
