Chapter 206: Chapter 206: Colorful Mist
Lu Siyao gasped, and Liang Bao’s expression turned grim.
Gu Jin thanked the man and quickly led her team back to their room.
"Jin’er this...did you already know such thing would happen?" Liang Bao asked with difficulty.
"The mist...didn’t you notice?" Gu Jin asked.
Lu Siyao frowned and closed her eyes to think about the mist.
"It was thick toward the right and thin towards the left..." Liang Bao said subconsciously.
Gu Jin nodded,
"If you looked at more carefully you would see that there was a strange partition between the fog. It wasn’t visible to the naked eye but if some used their mana to enhance their senses, they would notice the difference."
"So that was how it is? But even if it was thick or thin, how did you know that something was amiss?" Lu Siyao questioned.
"Smell and color. I used mana to enhance my sense and saw that the right side of the mist was of purple color and the left side of the mist was of golden color.
The smell of the purple color mist was a bit pungent while the smell of the golden color mist was a bit...relaxing."
Lu Siyao’s eyes narrowed,
"Is that so? So did all the hunters go inside the purple mist and hence..."
"No." Gu Jin shook her head, "On the contrary, most of the hunters went inside the golden mist, but..."
"But they didn’t survive." Liang Bao completed Gu Jin’s sentence.
Gu Jin nodded.
"What about the dividing line?" Lu Siyao asked suddenly.
They traveled so much because they wanted the artifact and Psychomindris.
They need to guess on which side the artifact and Psychomindris were and go in that mist.
But now that they have encountered such a strange situation, they need to think about everything.
What if the artifact and the Psychomindris are in the line dividing the mist?
"The line...is too peculiar." Gu Jin said with difficulty.
"What should we do now?" Liang Bao asked.
Gu Jin thought for a while and came up with the idea.
"I will visit the local guild. They might have more detailed reports about the recent events in the Mistwood Forest.
If we can find out what happened and why, we can plan our next steps more effectively. Bao’er try to talk with the last survivor and Siyao your duty is to hear the conversation and gather as much information as you can."
"Okay."
"Understood."
.....
2 days later.
The trio met and shared the information they got before coming up with a conclusion.
"So from the past 2 weeks, the mist around the mistwood has slowly turned thicker. A few hunters who had visited the mistwood forest earlier claim that the beasts have become much more cautious.
There were also some hunters who claimed that very few beasts appeared when they were hunting. Some even claimed that the mist had turned poisonous.
Some hunters claim that they have seen some shadows in the forest, while some are saying that they have seen a strange black vortex sucking people.
Also, there is a rumor that the area around the mistwood forest trembles occasionally."
Lu Siyao nodded.
"The most alarming part is the black vortex. If it’s a spatial anomaly, it could be incredibly dangerous and unpredictable."
Liang Bao looked worried.
"And the trembling ground... Could it be linked to the artifact we’re seeking? Maybe it’s reacting to something."
Gu Jin shook her head,
"It isn’t an artifact. From what I have heard...maybe other than artifact and Psychomindris, some other treasure has appeared too."
Both Lu Siyao and Liang Bao fell silent.
"Anyways first prepare these things." Gu Jin passed them a list
"Hm? Three communication sticks, three compasses, nine teleportation talismans, three flying boots, three holy grade armors, a connecting rope, and three tracking talismans?" Lu Siyao read the list.
"Won’t all these be too expensive?" Liang Bao asked with hesitation.
With Gu Jin’s help, she was able to save up to 1 million, but the items on the list together would cost them 3 billion!
"If by chance we get separated, we can use the communication sticks, and teleportation talismans to escape from dangerous situations, flying boots will help us to fly in the air in case of tremble or earthquake, and a connecting rope to be connected with each other in case the mist is too dense and tracking talismans so that if we end up separating we can find each other. Don’t worry, I will pay for now, once you have enough money you can pay me back." Gu Jin assured them.
"Oh, right for the poisonous mist, I have already put an antidote pill that can fight most of the poison. But for your assurity, I could go and check the poisonous mist for once."
Liang Bao and Lu Siyao were touched.
Indeed. Without Gu Jin, they wouldn’t be able to complete the mission.
The trio went to gather the necessary items.
The market was bustling, but they managed to find everything on the list, albeit at a high price.
Once they had everything, they regrouped and prepared for their journey into the Mistwood Forest.
"We’ll head out at dawn," Gu Jin said.
"That should give us the best chance to navigate through the mist and avoid any unwanted attention."
The next morning, they set off early, the sun barely peeking over the horizon.
The mist was thick, but with their preparations, they felt ready for whatever lay ahead.
As they approached the entrance to the Mistwood Forest, the air grew colder, and an eerie silence settled over them.
"Which side to go Jin’er?" Liang Bao asked.
"Left." Gu Jin said after using her magic-seeking skill.
"Alright." Liang Bao and Lu Siyao nodded.
The trio went to the left.
"Now shall we follow?" The red-haired woman who was hiding in the shadow of a tree asked.
"Wait for an hour." The blue-haired woman said.
After an hour when she was sure that Gu Jin wasn’t going to come out, she said,
"Let’s go."
"Okay."
Both of them then entered the left side.
Once they left, Gu Jin and her friends came out.
"Who were they?" Lu Siyao asked.
"I don’t know. I know just one thing. They have been following us for the past week." Gu Jin said.
One of the reasons why she didn’t enter the mist 4 days ago was that she noticed these two women’s presence.
"Anyways. Let go." Gu Jin said and led them to the right side. "Also put on the armor."
The mist on the purple side was much more dense. The mist swirled around them, making it difficult to see more than a few feet ahead.
The air was heavy with a sense of foreboding, and the silence was only broken by the occasional rustle of leaves or distant beast cries.
After 10 minutes of walking, Liang Bao stepped on some button-like thing.
Click.
"Huh?" Liang Bao was confused.
Lu Siyao’s face changed and she said,
"You have activated some hidden traps!"
Suddenly the ground beneath them trembled, and sharp, metallic spikes shot up from hidden mechanisms.
"Watch out!" Gu Jin yelled, her reflexes kicking in as she pushed Liang Bao aside, narrowly avoiding the spikes herself.
Lu Siyao jumped back, her agility saving her from the immediate danger.
"Activate the flying boots!" Lu Siyao hurriedly said.
Gu Jin, Liang Bao, and Lu Siyao quickly activated their flying boots, rising above the dangerous ground.
The sharp spikes continued to shoot up, narrowly missing them as they hovered above the trap.
"That was close," Liang Bao muttered, her voice shaky. "Thanks, Jin’er."
Gu Jin nodded, her eyes scanning the area for any further threats.
"We need to stay alert. The mist is hiding more than just beasts."
Otherwise, why would a forest have hidden traps?
It was clear that things were not as simple as they seem.
As they floated above the ground, Gu Jin used her enhanced senses to survey their surroundings.
The thick purple mist obscured much, but she noticed faint glimmers of light in the distance.
"Follow me." Gu Jin said.
"Okay."
They proceeded cautiously, using their flying boots to navigate through the dense mist.
The eerie silence was occasionally interrupted by distant growls and the rustling of leaves, heightening their sense of unease.
After what felt like hours, they reached a small clearing.
The mist was slightly thinner here, allowing them a better view of their surroundings.
In the center of the clearing, a large, ancient tree stood, its gnarled branches reaching out like twisted fingers.
"What’s that?" Liang Bao asked, pointing to the tree.
Gu Jin squinted, noticing faint markings on the tree’s bark.
"It looks like some sort of rune. Let’s get closer."
They carefully approached the tree, their eyes scanning for any hidden traps. As they got closer, the markings became clearer.
They were ancient runes, glowing faintly with a magical energy.
"Impossible." Liang Bao suddenly said.
"What happened?" Gu Jin asked.
