The Mighty Mage -
Chapter 188: Parasite
Chapter 188: Chapter 188: Parasite
The parasite struggled against the grip and glared at Gu Jin. In order to communicate with Gu Jin, it took back Liang Bao’s face and said,
"How...how did you know? I concealed it so perfectly!"
Lu Siyao rushed toward Gu Jin, and hugged her and asked,
"What do you mean? Jin’er."
Gu Jin stared at Liang Bao and stated,
"The day when you came to my house, you looked scared and were trembling. I almost believed you. But there was a strange smell around you.
When you left the house, you were attacked by the so-called person named Meyo...the problem is, their story was completely different from yours.
I gave you the benefit of the doubt and let you in. But when you suddenly came to the room, claiming you wanted to see Lu Siyao and touched her cheeks, your focus was on placing a strange thing box beside her.
Even though the box was very small, I noticed it.
There were also many unanswered questions.
Like how did you know my house’s address, even though I haven’t registered it anywhere except the sales office and alchemy association?
And how did an intruder enter my house even though all the house door was locked? Until and unless an insider was the one who had brought it in.
What was even more amazing was that the intruder was just a wisp of energy, so how was it able to hold you? And why didn’t you use magic?
You even wanted me to let the figure go. Real Liang Bao would never do so.
There were also many inconsistencies in your behavior. Liang Bao would get angry whenever Siyao tried to flirt with me, saying ’You can’t flirt with Jin’er all by yourself.’
But you...you seem to just agree with whatever Siyao was saying."
Lu Siyao’s eyes widened. She missed all of these details.
Liang Bao gritted her teeth in hatred.
"Since you already know the truth, then I won’t be polite."
Gu Jin’s gaze hardened as she faced the creature masquerading as her friend.
The creature’s eyes glinted with malice, and its human facade began to melt away, revealing its true, monstrous form once again.
It snarled, baring its rows of sharp teeth.
"Do you really think you can stop me?" it hissed, its voice a grotesque mix of human and beastly tones.
Gu Jin didn’t flinch.
"I don’t just think I can stop you," she said, her voice cold and resolute. "I know I will."
The creature lunged at her, its movements quick and menacing.
. Gu Jin stood her ground, eyes narrowed and focused. As it came within striking distance, she extended her hand, summoning a barrier of green energy that slammed into the creature, halting its advance.
The parasite screeched, recoiling from the barrier. "You can’t keep this up forever," it spat, its voice filled with venom.
Gu Jin’s expression remained calm. "I don’t need to keep it up forever. Just long enough to destroy you."
With a swift motion, she directed the barrier to constrict around the creature, tightening its grip.
"Plant Barrier."
Plant Barrier was one of the intermediate-rank spells.
The parasite writhed, its form shifting and twisting as it struggled to break free. Green energy crackled around it, searing its flesh.
Lu Siyao, still clinging to Gu Jin, watched with fear.
"Jin’er, be careful," she whispered.
"I know what I’m doing, Siyao," Gu Jin replied, her voice steady. "Stay close."
The creature, realizing it was losing the battle, let out a guttural roar. "I’ll tear you apart!" it shrieked, its monstrous form thrashing against the barrier.
"Not today." She channeled more energy into the barrier, causing it to glow brighter. The parasite’s movements grew more frantic, its screams more desperate.
In a final, defiant act, the creature lunged once more, pushing against the barrier with all its might.
Gu Jin braced herself, feeling the strain of maintaining the energy field.
Just as it seemed the barrier might give, a surge of power appeared out of nowhere, sending a wave of red energy crashing into the creature.
"I can multitask." Gu Jin said lightly.
The parasite’s form shattered, its monstrous body disintegrating into a cloud of dark mist.
The mist dissipated, leaving no trace of the creature behind. Gu Jin lowered her hand, breathing heavily.
Gu Jin couldn’t believe the battle she had just now.
Even though she was an advanced-rank mage, she struggled to defeat it.
Who said being an advanced rank mage could make you powerful?
She couldn’t even defeat a strange parasite!
Lu Siyao hugged her tighter.
Gu Jin nodded, her gaze still fixed on the spot where the creature had been.
"It’s over," she said softly, more to herself than to anyone else.
Lu Siyao as if realizing something, took out her phone with trembling hands and called on Liang Bao’s phone number.
However before the call could connect, Gu Jin snatched the phone from her hand and said,
"She is alive. I had called her just before leaving the house."
"You..."
Gu Jin patted her shoulder,
"The moment I became suspicious of the fake ’Liang Bao’ I called the real one and from her, I got to know that she was on a mission currently."
Lu Siyao patted her heart.
Soon tears appeared in her eyes,
"Why didn’t you tell me earlier? Idiot! I was so scared!"
Even though Lu Siyao said those words harshly, she hugged Gu Jin tightly.
Gu Jin sighed and hugged her back.
Fei Hanzhu burst into the washroom, panting from his sprint. His eyes widened as he took in the scene: the dissipating energy, the two girls, one comforting the other.
"What happened here?" he demanded.
Gu Jin and Lu Siyao both of them were stunned. Gu Jin narrowed her eyes and said,
"That is the question I should ask. What are you doing in the girl’s washroom."
Fei Hanzhu as if realizing his mistake turned around and left the bathroom after leaving the sentence,
"Please come out."
Lu Siyao couldn’t help but pout,
"Who is he to comment? Hmph!"
Gu Jin however had different thoughts than Lu Siyao.
She could tell from just one look...the young man who had just entered the girl’s washroom wasn’t simple.
He smelled of...troubles.
After waiting for 10 minutes, when Gu Jin and Lu Siyao came out of the washroom, they saw three people.
Out of which two were dressed in the blue uniform of police and the other one was the young man who had entered the girl’s washroom, just a few minutes before.
Lu Siyao had a bad premonition in her heart and she said,
"Jin’er why do I think, we are in big trouble?"
Gu Jin nodded her head,
"Indeed we are."
However, compared to the previous time, her eyes weren’t twitching as much as it was before.
Fei Hanzhu stepped forward and said,
"Forgive me for introducing myself late, I am Special Officer Fei Hanzhu."
"I can forgive you, as long as you let us go." Lu Siyao said with a serious expression.
"Then...I don’t want your forgiveness." Fei Hanzhu smiled.
Lu Siyao: "..." How rude!
Fei Hanzhu as if not sensing Lu Siyao’s disapproval turned toward Gu Jin and said,
"We don’t want to punish you for killing a person, nor do we want to punish you for destroying a property in the mall, as long as you cooperate with us."
Gu Jin: "..." Are you threatening me, that if I refuse you will charge me those charges?
’B*stard.’(Gu Jin’s inner thought)
"Sure." Gu Jin smiled.
"Its a pleasure to communicate with someone smart." Fei Hanzhu’s comment irked Lu Siyao who shouted,
"Are you calling me dumb?"
"If that is what you want to assume."
Gu Jin’s eyes narrowed and she said,
"Yao’er calm down. Dumb ones are those who can’t distinguish between a girl bathroom and a boy bathroom."
Fei Hanzhu’s lips twitched and he said,
"Miss, I just was trying to save you, hence I ignored the sign."
"Hm. And we are just coordinating with you, so please respect us and stop passing sarcastic comments. After all, I am ’smart’ enough to understand what you are trying to do."
Fei Hanzhu was stunned and so were the two police officers.
What a brave girl.
Gu Jin and Lu Siyao were escorted through the mall, drawing curious glances from shoppers.
The two police officers led the way, while Fei Hanzhu walked alongside Gu Jin and Lu Siyao, maintaining a professional demeanor despite the tension.
As they exited the mall, Fei Hanzhu gestured toward a sleek, black car parked nearby.
"We’ll take you to a secure location where we can discuss this further."
Gu Jin raised an eyebrow.
"Secure location? I hope you don’t mean a jail cell."
Fei Hanzhu chuckled.
"No, nothing like that. We just need to ensure your safety and gather more information about the creature you encountered."
Reluctantly, Gu Jin and Lu Siyao got into the car. The ride was silent, each of them lost in their own thoughts.
