The Mighty Mage
Chapter 134: James

Chapter 134: Chapter 134: James

Once in the space, Gu Jin performed treatment on Jasmine, she cultivated her dark fire element and slept in space for the next 8 hours.

When she came out of the space, it was early in the morning.

She checked the alarm clock and found that it was only 6 a.m.

Thanks to her space, not only she was able to cultivate and provide treatment, but she could also sleep so well.

While others only got 6 hours of sleep, she slept 8 hours.

All the people were still asleep. Just then Gu Jin’s eyes narrowed. Why was the person who when to the toilet yesterday, not in his bed?

Gu Jin had a suspicious nature.

After yesterday’s battle, even the strongest people would have trouble getting up.

Advanced Rank mages like Zhang Wei and Tang Guan were still sleeping, exhausted from yesterday’s work so why was that man still active?

Just then the door of the bathroom opened and the man returned to his bed.

He rubbed his stomach and sighed,

"Yesterday’s food was truly too weird! I keep on getting loose motion."

Gu Jin whose back was facing the man heard his words and finally relaxed. However, she smelled a strange smell.

"Ah! Sh*t! Did I forget to flush the toilet?"

Gu Jin almost wanted to vomit. She vowed to never use the public washroom.

At 7 o’clock everyone woke up and started to get ready. Today Gu Jin had already showered in advance to avoid any unwanted situation.

Just like yesterday, the team started to fight the beast and took their first break after 4 and a half hours.

"It is just me or today the beast attacks are not as frequently?" Liu Sunhao commented as he wiped the sweat from his forehead, taking a moment to catch his breath.

Zhang Wei, glancing around the relatively calmer battlefield, nodded thoughtfully.

"You’re right. There’s definitely something different about today. It could mean that some high-ranking mage has arrived.

These beasts can sense power and tend to avoid areas with strong presences."

"Who do you think it is?" Yi Ran asked, curiosity piqued.

"I heard rumors before we left that the renowned super mage, Feng Tian, was scheduled to visit this area. It’s likely him," Zhang Wei replied.

"Feng Tian?" Xu Mingtao repeated, her interest caught.

"I’ve read about him. He’s a top-tier mage known for his control over multiple elements."

Gu Jin nodded she too had heard about Feng Lian.

He was one of the role models that teachers at Magic School Academy had mentioned. Especially his Space Element control.

"Exactly," Zhang Wei confirmed.

"If he’s here, it explains the decrease in beast activity. They wouldn’t want to get anywhere near someone of his caliber."

Xu Mingtao and others nodded.

"Good god, now we don’t need to work too much!" Liu Sunhao said in a delighted tone.

"Hey, don’t you dare to slack off, let me tell you, if that counter person sees you, he will definitely deal with you for good." Yi Ran warned.

Liu Sunhao rolled his eyes and threw his arms around Gu Jin as he said,

"I don’t need to worry. Don’t we have Big Brother Su? As long as Big Brother Su throws two to three cold sentences, I am sure that he would not dare to make a move."

Gu Jin pushed away Liu Sunhao’s hands and said in a cold tone,

"Even if he kills you I won’t help you."

"So would you help me if I am in danger?" Liu Sunhao asked thinking Su Jin was afraid of Xiang Li.

Su Jin aka Gu Jin shook her head leisurely,

"No! Never. If you are in danger, at least you will keep your mouth shut."

"Hey! That hurts! Su Jin how could you say that!" Liu Sunhao acted as if he was genuinely hurt and touched his heart.

Gu Jin looked away and from an angle no one could, her lips curled up in a smile.

She didn’t want to admit but Liu Sunhao’s comment truly made her feel relaxed. The constant state of gloom gets visibly reduced whenever she is near Liu Sunhao.

"Wuuu! Wuu! Leader Zhang, you will help me right?" Liu Sunhao said pitifully.

Zhang Wei coldly shook his head and said,

"If possible I would even help him."

"No!! How can everyone be so cold to me?" Liu Sunhao cried.

All the other members laughed.

The group continued to chat, their spirits lifted by the news.

They finished their break and resumed their positions, ready to face any remaining threats.

For the next few hours, the group continued to fight off sporadic beast attacks.

The presence of Feng Tian seemed to have driven most of the beasts away, allowing them to conserve more energy.

It was a welcome change from the relentless assaults they had faced the day before.

Even Gu Jin praised that guy in her heart.

Thanks to him, they were able to rest today!

If she had time in the future she would...

But before Gu Jin could continue with her thought process, an incident happened.

Suddenly, the ground beneath their feet began to tremble. The gentle vibrations quickly grew into violent shakes, and panic spread among the mercenaries.

"Earthquake!" someone shouted.

F*ck!

Gu Jin cursed in her heart.

Can’t she have one peaceful day?

But since her right eye wasn’t twitching, Gu Jin was assured that nothing bad would happen to her.

"Run towards the safe zone!" Zhang Wei ordered, his voice cutting through the chaos.

The team immediately sprang into action, sprinting towards the designated safe area.

Gu Jin was at the end of the group.

She kept pace with her teammates, her mind racing as she tried to remain calm amidst the growing panic.

The ground’s tremors grew stronger, and she could see cracks forming in the earth.

"Keep moving! Don’t stop!" Liu Sunhao yelled, urging everyone forward.

Zhang Wei, Yi Ran, Tang Guan, and Xu Mingtao had already reached the safe zone.

Since many people were pushing each other, Liu Sunhao and Gu Jin were separated from the group.

To their bad luck, the people in front of them were all people with higher cultivation than them.

Soon the crowd moved in and Liu Sunhao and Gu Jin too followed behind.

They were the last few people who were about to enter the safe zone.

Just as they were about to reach the safe zone, a massive crack opened up right under Liu Sunhao’s feet.

Gu Jin and Liu Sunhao’s eyes widened in horror.

A memory flashed past in Gu Jin’s mind.

"Miss Gu you run, I will hold on here!" A firm voice said.

"No! James, I would not leave you! After Donut you are one of the only few people who are by my side, how could I let you die?" Gu Jin said coldly, but her body was trembling.

James was Gu Jin’s friend, teammate, and advisor. He was 3 years older than Gu Jin but his mental age was less than Gu Jin. That was what Gu Jin used to say to him.

However, not once did she doubt his advice.

She was afraid...afraid that he would push her away and be on the helicopter all alone.

The helicopter they had taken was tampered with, the pilot had long jumped away and only he and Gu Jin remained in the helicopter.

Since there was only one safety jacket, James forced Gu Jin to wear it, saying that if she didn’t wear it, he would jump down without any safety jacket too.

Gu Jin could only follow James’ instruction after he repeatedly assured her that he would be okay too.

The safety jacket wasn’t in perfect condition and couldn’t hold much weight hence the plan to jump from the helicopter the moment they reached a relatively low altitude.

James hugged Gu Jin at that time and said,

"Jin did I ever tell you?"

Gu Jin didn’t want to hear James’s words at all, she knew that she might have to face something very unpleasant today and hence she wasn’t ready.

She begged god in her heart.

Begged him to show her some mercy and not take James away from her.

"Plea...Please don’t say...Please!" Gu Jin shouted.

James however patted Gu Jin’s hair and said,

"Jin you are my little sister, if I don’t make it promise me that you will not harm yourself. Promise me that you will live on and take revenge on my behalf?"

Gu Jin shook her head and warned,

"If you leave me I will kill myself!"

James chuckled with a lump in his throat and said,

"Let me tell you a secret, I am your half-brother Jin. For the past 3 years, I have been investigating my father’s accident.

He never acknowledged me till the time, I was alive. But before his death, he had asked me to take care of you.

At first, I didn’t understand why he said that until I saw the news. He asked me to protect you till the last of my breath."
