Chapter 115: Chapter 115: Advanced Stage of Apprentice Level.
"Catalope has good agility and speed, making it difficult to catch. Their horns are sharp and can cause serious injuries if not handled properly," Zhang Wei continued, his tone serious.
Gu Jin listened attentively, taking mental notes of the information provided.
She knew that being well-prepared and knowledgeable about the dangers they might face was crucial for their journey.
"Also they have very keen sense, so even a slight movement can alert them. It has a single element. Psychic. Does everyone have a mind-calming device?" Zhang Wei asked.
Everyone nodded. Gu Jin had bought a lot of things and though they were of low grade they were still passable.
"Good. Now let’s talk about Catalope’s weakness. Catalope’s weakness lies in its reliance on its psychic abilities," Zhang Wei explained.
"While its psychic powers make it difficult to catch and can detect even slight movements, they also leave it vulnerable to certain countermeasures."
Gu Jin leaned in, her interest piqued.
She knew that understanding an enemy’s weaknesses was just as important as knowing their strengths.
"The Catalope’s psychic abilities are sensitive to disruptions in the energy field around it," Zhang Wei continued.
"By creating a disturbance in its psychic field, we can temporarily disrupt its abilities and weaken its defenses."
"What kind of disturbances are effective against Catalope?" Gu Jin asked, her curiosity evident in her voice.
"Anything that disrupts the flow of psychic energy," Zhang Wei replied.
"Loud noises, sudden movements, or even certain spells can all create enough disruption to throw off its psychic abilities."
"Remember," Zhang Wei cautioned,
"timing and coordination are key. We need to act quickly and decisively to take advantage of the Catalope’s vulnerability."
Gu Jin asked,
"What about Red-eyed deer?"
"Ah, the Red-eyed deer," Zhang Wei replied, shifting his focus to the next threat they might encounter.
"Unlike the Catalope, the Red-eyed deer is a Soul Class beast, meaning it possesses more formidable strength and abilities."
Zhang Wei continued. "Its red eyes are not just for show – they possess a unique ability to mesmerize and immobilize its prey."
"In addition to its mesmerizing gaze, the Red-eyed deer also possesses exceptional stamina and endurance," Zhang Wei added.
"It can chase down its prey for hours without tiring, making it a formidable opponent in prolonged battles."
"Do they have any weaknesses?" Gu Jin asked, hoping for a glimmer of hope amidst the daunting description of the creature.
Zhang Wei paused for a moment, considering his response.
"The Red-eyed deer’s primary weakness lies in its eyes," he finally replied.
"While its mesmerizing gaze is powerful, it also renders it temporarily vulnerable to attacks when it is using this ability."
Gu Jin memorized the information in her mind quickly.
"However," Zhang Wei continued,
"it’s worth noting that the Red-eyed deer’s mesmerizing gaze is not its only method of attack. It also possesses sharp antlers and hooves, which it can use with deadly precision."
"What element does it have?" Gu Jin asked.
Zhang Wei thought for a moment before responding,
"The Red-eyed deer primarily possesses the element of Darkness."
Darkness was a powerful element, often associated with stealth, manipulation, and illusion.
"Do they possess the power to manipulate or create illusion?" Liu Sunhao asked curiously.
"Idiot! Did you not hear? They have the power to mesmerize! How could they have the power to manipulate?" Xu Mingtao rolled her eyes.
"Sunhao you asked a good question." Zhang Wei.
Gu Jin raised an eyebrow.
"Red-Eyed Deers indeed could manipulate, but only if they are in their mature phase i.e. they are about to be promoted to Soldier Class."
Zhang Wei explained further,
"During their mature phase, Red-eyed deer gain the ability to manipulate darkness and create illusions.
This ability enhances their mesmerizing gaze, making it even more potent and difficult to resist."
"So, it’s not just their mesmerizing gaze we need to be wary of," Gu Jin summarized, "but also their potential to manipulate darkness and create illusions."
Zhang Wei confirmed her understanding with a nod.
"Exactly. It adds another layer of danger to our encounters with Red-eyed deer, especially as they approach the Soldier Class."
For the next 5 hours, the team discussed the weakness and strength of the beast and the different beasts they can encounter.
Sometimes, Zhang Wei shared the details, while the other members listened; sometimes another member talked and Zhang Wei listened.
By the end of 5 hours, Gu Jin knew about many other beasts.
"Leader, what about the reward?" Xu Mingtao asked excitedly.
Zhang Wei thought about the reward and said with a heavy heart,
"12 million and 2 days of cultivation tower entry to one person."
The entire team fell silent.
12 million may seem a big amount but if divided into 6 people, it would only be 2 million per person.
Not to mention the supplies they brought cost them 1.7 million. This doesn’t include the cost of medicinal supplies they would need after the mission.
So in the end they would at most earn around 70k to 100k.
Big amount?
Well, they would have to pay taxes and some lodging fees they had spent during the journey which cuts down their fees to just 30k.
Earning 30k in 5 days...is truly...
Especially if the Mystic Seed cost around 10 million...
Who would be able to save up to 10 million with just a monthly income of 180k?
Gu Jin could sense the disappointment among her companions.
"Is there any chance of negotiating for a higher reward?" Gu Jin ventured, breaking the somber silence that had settled over the group.
Zhang Wei sighed, acknowledging the valid concern.
"It’s possible, but we must remember that negotiations with the authorities can be challenging, especially for missions like these."
He continued,
"However if we can demonstrate exceptional performance during the mission or uncover valuable information, we may have some leverage to negotiate for additional compensation."
"Let’s focus on completing the mission first," Zhang Wei suggested, his tone resolute.
"We’ll deal with negotiations afterward, if necessary."
He looked at his team members and said,
"Once we rank up. Our rewards will be much more!"
The team members nodded in agreement, a smile formed on their faces.
Indeed once the mercenary group ranks up the money used to hire them is also a lot.
At the start, everyone faces a struggle. But after the struggle comes the real money.
Gu Jin curiously asked,
"Ranks?"
Xu Mingtao whose mood has improved teased,
"Yes, little brother we have ranks. Just for your information, we are of Intermediate Rank."
Gu Jin guessed,
"Is the ranking of the group the same as the Magic Cultivation?"
Xu Mingtao smiled widely,
"How smart you are little brother~"
Gu Jin didn’t reply to her. For her, Xu Mingtao was just a half-head.
"Okay stop teasing him!" Zhang Wei interrupted and Xu Mingtao snorted.
Zhang Wei motioned everyone to get down and it was then that Gu Jin realized that they had reached a huge lodge.
Looking at the dark night, Gu Jin realized that it was night.
Because of the chatting, for the first time, Gu Jin felt that the time flashed very quickly.
Zhang Wei walked up to reception and after sorting the room issues, he bought 3 rooms.
He turned to walk toward them but due to an accident, he stumbled and got a small cut on his right hand by the edge of the reception.
"Leader be careful!" Tang Guan said worriedly.
"I am fine." Zhang Wei said.
Xu Mingtao chuckled and said,
"Leader you are so clumsy. You should wear a protective necklace like me!"
She pointed at the red ruby necklace on her neck.
Zhang Wei shook his head and the rest of the members chuckled.
It was just a small accident and the team member didn’t take it to heart.
In one room Xu Mingtao and Yi Ran were assigned. Liu Sunhao and Zhnag Wei shared one room while Tang Guan and Gu Jin shared one room.
Gu Jin was a bit uncomfortable sharing her room with Tang Guan and hence she said,
"I will book a separate room for myself."
Tang Guan frowned and asked,
"Do you perhaps don’t like me?"
Gu Jin shook her head as she said calmly,
"I have a habit of sleeping alone."
Tang Guan nodded and didn’t continue to ask. Everyone has their preferences. Zhang Wei too remained silent.
Though he wanted to advise Gu Jin to share a room as it would save money, however, if Gu Jin wanted to spend money it was her own lookout.
Gu Jin booked a separate room and finally was satisfied.
After taking a shower, Gu Jin entered her space and gave Jasmine her treatment. This was another matter. Since Gu Jin started Jasmine’s treatment, Jasmine never once woke up.
For the past 3 days, Gu Jin was wondering whether her treatment was working on Jasmine or not. However, with each passing day, Jasmine’s pale complexion was turning into a healthy rosy complexion which was a clear indication of her health improving.
