The Mightiest Little Master of Metaphysics -
Chapter 95 Liking Oneself
Chapter 95: Chapter 95 Liking Oneself
Just as they were about to depart, Old Mrs. Yun suddenly stepped out, looking flustered and hurried;
"Wait, take me with you. I just heard Shen Cong fainted. How could he be terrified by a mere Ghost Shadow?"
She was still thinking about finding an opportunity to ask Shen Cong if that talisman had expired, but she didn’t expect the guy to pass out himself.
Yun Qiuce commented while thinking, "Mom, why are you tagging along?" Perhaps it might show Old Mrs. Yun Qi’s abilities and ease her concerns.
In a moment of hesitation, Old Mrs. Yun swiftly got into the car.
Yun Qiuce was astonished. This old lady has been unexpectedly... lively lately!
About half an hour later, the group arrived at the Shen Family.
In broad daylight, amidst a clear sky. The entire Shen household was enveloped in an atmosphere of tension.
Servants bustled around the yard, serving tea and preparing refreshments, all looking anxious and hurried.
Yun Qi was led by Shen Heying to the front hall. From the moment she entered through the main door, she had been observing keenly.
The Shen Family, like the Yun Family, was also a traditional courtyard house, with its interior landscapes and water features designed to maximize good fortune and ward off disasters per the Five Elements feng shui.
Even the paving stones on the ground were carved into auspicious cloud patterns.
Clearly, ordinary vengeful ghosts and monsters would not dare enter here.
A slice of watermelon was cut into a small piece and handed to Yun Qi.
Yun Qi held the watermelon, eating it with relish, her small body nestled in the large grand teacher’s chair, its solemnity and grandeur accentuating her cuteness till she seemed to bubble over.
Upon hearing that another expert had been invited, the Shen household leaned over the window to sneak a peek.
"Yun Qiuce? Can he manage?"
"Certainly not. But he wasn’t exactly the one invited; do you see the little girl right in the middle to his right? She’s the master the eldest son specifically invited."
"Don’t joke with me; I might just take it seriously! That little girl still needs two bottles of milk a day, and she can bust ghosts???"
"Anyway, it’s her that the Yun Family sent over."
...
Though Old Mrs. Yun couldn’t bust ghosts, her family had done it for generations, so she wasn’t intimidated at all, and said to Shen Heying;
"Where’s your father? Take us to see him. And tell those people to focus on what they should be doing instead of talking."
Her demeanor had transformed, abandoning the despair bred from prolonged illness, she became sharp-eyed and imposing.
Shen Heying hurriedly went to disperse the crowd, politely saying to Old Mrs. Yun and Yun Qi:
"Please follow me, my father is resting in bed."
They arrived at Shen Cong’s bedroom.
Yun Qi first detected a whiff of Vicious Energy, spiraling in from outside the window.
Shen Cong’s room had also been meticulously designed and decorated; both the window and doorways were adorned with protective talismans, making it difficult for impure entities to enter.
Shen Cong lay rigidly on the bed. At the end of summer, enduringly hot, yet his entire body was ice-cold, the quilt covering up to his chest, his hands laid straight by his sides, making him look almost corpse-like.
His face was pale with grayish tints, eyes shut tight, and jaws clenched, as if holding on by sheer will.
Strange tubes extended from beneath the quilt, from devices maintaining his vital signs.
Yun Qi shook her head, "Take those things away, they’re useless. His problem is with his heart."
Shen Heying had also suspected those devices were useless, but due to his superficial practice, he lacked certainty and thus overwhelmed himself with machines in a blind panic, hoping for peace of mind.
Upon hearing Yun Qi’s words, he quickly ordered the removal of all tubes.
Shen Cong continued to cling onto that last breath.
Yun Qiuce poked his head in for a look, then hurriedly drew back in fright.
Yun Qi strolled around the room, coming to inspect the window.
She reached out to move the large sofa nearby.
Shen Heying felt amusement bubbling inside; this little girl indeed had the air of a master, albeit with some things she did appearing comical.
Unlike typical children, she did not rely instinctively on adults.
"Little Master, let me help."
He assisted in moving the sofa chair before Yun Qi.
Yun Qi nodded, pointed out the position, saying nothing, but her large phoenix-like eyes were filled with calmness, exuding a sense of reliability.
The sofa chair set, she stood atop it, reached out to pat the window, clenched the handle tightly, and with gritted teeth twisted open the window.
The breeze and sunshine from outside spilled in, circulating the air in the room, making the atmosphere instantly less stifling.
Yun Qi cautiously steadied herself by the window, one foot on the windowsill, which frightened Yun Qiuce to rush over to support her.
"Qi, what are you looking at?"
Yun Qi shook her head, offering no reply.
From her pocket, she pulled out two talismans, which instantly burst into flames as spiritual energy coursed through them, swiftly engulfing the talisman papers, their ashes scattering onto the windowsill.
And just at that moment, an imprint gradually emerged amidst the tiny ashes.
It was the mark of a pair of Skull Hands, as though something outside held onto the sill, trying to enter but was stalled by the talismans inside the window.
Her small body crouched down, peering intently over the windowsill.
Behind her, a mass of people stretched their necks on tiptoe like a flock of curious geese.
Yun Qi’s golden eyes reflected those fingerprints, strange indeed!
Despite the skeletal handprint, the Vicious Energy was recent; clearly, it was from someone newly deceased.
A recently deceased person’s body shouldn’t have decayed so quickly to a skeleton.
Suddenly, the Little Fox on her shoulder spoke.
"I’ve heard that for heinous wrongdoers, Fengdu Ghost City has a punishment called Bone Stripping and Meat Cutting to atone for the sins the ghost committed while alive."
Yun Qi nodded, acknowledging similar folklore among the people.
If someone committed severe transgressions during their lifetime, upon reaching the Underworld Hell after death, they’d undergo punishment, suffering severe tortures until their sins were cleansed, allowing them to reincarnate.
"Speaking of which, you’re the most familiar with this," the Little Fox suddenly squinted its eyes, speaking meaningfully.
Yun Qi’s large eyes focused as she stared at the skull fingerprints for a long time, then turned around and reached out for a hug—
Shen Heying, who was standing behind her, was startled when the child reached out with her little cheeks soft and plump, instinctively extending his hands.
Yun Qiuce slung him aside with his shoulder, his expression wary:
"Don’t get tempted to hug a cute child just because you like it. If you like one, have your own."
With that, he picked up Yun Qi.
Embarrassed, Shen Heying rubbed his hands together and hurriedly followed.
Yun Qi made her way to the study in the partition wall.
Shen Cong’s master bedroom was a large suite, complete with a study, a walk-in closet, and a bathroom, standing about seventy to eighty square meters.
Shen Heying caught up and introduced:
"Before the incident, my dad was alone in the study. After he fell unconscious, I tidied up a bit."
Ink, paper, and brushes were neatly arranged on the study desk, indicating Shen Cong’s interest in writing and calligraphy during leisure.
Yun Qi casually flipped through a book, her gaze immediately sharpening.
The pages prominently displayed the Puppetry Technique, a Mystical Technique long prohibited by the Xuan Sect.
She turned her eyes to Shen Heying.
With a pleasant smile on his face, Shen Heying asked, "Little Master, what’s wrong, any issues?"
"Don’t you recognize this book?" Her childish voice was remarkably somber, almost grave.
Shen Heying couldn’t fathom how a child so small could, when serious, carry such an intimidating aura. He straightened up at once, earnestly saying, "I don’t, I just thought it was a common mysticism manual. Honestly, I don’t have much talent, just living off my dad’s reputation."
"Your dad practices evil cultivation, dabbling in Forbidden Techniques. You’re not aware?"
Yun Qi got straight to the point, placing her hands on her hips, and began chastising sternly.
