Chapter 202: Chapter 198 Grandson, Dead Dead
"Excuse me, can we sit with you? There are no seats left." The Mummy said after getting his meal, leading Little Skeleton over.
"Oh, it’s no problem, have a seat." Yun Qiuce moved aside, leaving space for the Mummy and his son.
The Mummy served the food from the tray, and in front of Little Skeleton was a plate of spaghetti and a cup of juice.
In front of him was a bowl of steaming beef noodles.
The restaurant’s TV was on a loop playing the news about Bai Ying’s fall from a horse.
"Huh? Sir, are you okay?"
Yun Qiuce gathered up the courage to wave his hand in front of the Mummy’s eyes.
The Mummy picked up a big chopstick full of steaming beef noodles but didn’t eat it, turned to stare at the TV, completely frozen in place.
Yun Qiuce’s voice snapped him out of it.
"Oh, no problem, I got brain damage when I died, so I often get stuck like that." The Mummy tore open some bandages, revealing a dried-up mouth, then slurped the beef noodles like a regular person.
He even took a spoonful of the spicy soup.
"Um... May I rudely ask, do you... do you still need to eat in your current state?"
The Mummy shook his head, "Actually, I only need to absorb spiritual energy, but I was once human, and I know human delicacies, so the doctors at Division 49 made some modifications to let me eat like ordinary humans and enjoy the taste of food, my son too!"
The Mummy looked at his son, whose face was covered with bandages, looking at people through the gaps in them, and at this moment, gentle eyes shone through the gap.
Yun Qiuce followed his gaze to Little Skeleton, nearly dropping his jaw on the floor.
Little Skeleton took a big bite of pasta, then picked up the juice and gulped it down. The juice passed through his mouth, throat bone, and chest, trickling down to the ground.
The blank-eyed and numb-faced janitor next to them was already used to it, swiftly wiping the floor clean with a rag before standing behind Little Skeleton like a spirit, ready to clean up at any moment.
"Sorry if it scared you, but this way my son can experience the taste of juice," the Mummy explained.
"I see, I don’t mind. I’ve seen plenty of monsters with Qi... Sorry, not calling you a monster."
"It’s okay," the Mummy shrugged indifferently, "Outside we’re monsters, inside Division 49, you’re the monster, it balances out."
Yun Qiuce twitched his mouth when he saw Little Skeleton put down the juice, then looked at the TV, pointing with his bony fingers, chattering non-stop.
The Mummy reached out a big hand to tilt his son’s head straight, saying sternly, "Eat your food!"
"*&%¥#..."
Little Skeleton stubbornly broke free from his father’s hand like a human brat, pointing at the TV and babbling a ton.
The Mummy continued eating without reacting to his son’s actions.
Yun Qiuce whispered, "Hey, Big Head, your son seems to be saying something."
"Don’t mind him, I’m not called Big Head, I’m Zhang Yong, that’s the human name I gave myself."
"Oh, aren’t you a demon-turned; you must have had a name in life, why not use it?" Yun Qiuce asked with a smile.
Zhang Yong suddenly looked up, and through the white bandages, Yun Qiuce saw a pair of deep, dark eyes, seemingly issuing a silent warning.
Startled, Yun Qiuce quickly averted his gaze, glancing at Yun Qi for help.
Save the kid, the kid’s just curious.
From a pocket on her teddy bear, Yun Qi pulled out a handful of candy, reaching out to place it in front of Little Skeleton.
Little Skeleton’s eyes lit up, shooting fireworks from his dark eye sockets, pointing at himself, then at Yun Qi, babbling on with exaggerated and excited gestures.
Yun Qiuce suspected he’d go for the gorilla exclusive chest-thumping move.
Yun Qi smiled sweetly, "You’re welcome, this candy is very fragrant; big sis is getting adult teeth soon and can’t eat candy."
Little Skeleton tilted his head, appearing so innocent, and his dark eye sockets seemed to ponder seriously for a moment. Then, with a ’whoosh’, the little hands supported his head, turning him instantly into an ingratiating sunflower.
Yun Qiuce immediately understood that this was his exclusive way of expressing gratitude.
This Little Skeleton is quite interesting.
Zhang Yong looked up at Yun Qi, "I know you, you’re the Ghost Clan little princess who solved the Corpse Ghost Case with Li Bai."
Yun Qi shyly stuck out her tongue, "Not a little princess, just a worker, having to collect 500 resentful spirits every now and then is super stressful."
Zhang Yong nodded, looking at Yun Qiuce, "I know your Yun Family too, Hai City’s Xuan Sect family that’s been passed down for five generations. You seem to be living comfortably; I didn’t expect your family to still support idle people!"
Yun Qiuce was taken aback, "Hey? What do you mean? I... I also have a proper job. Like our Qi, a little kid, where wouldn’t I take care of her!"
His impression of this big Mummy instantly worsened.
"Sorry, I haven’t interacted with the living for a long time, I’m not good at speaking, sometimes I just say what’s on my mind, I didn’t mean any disrespect."
To apologize, Zhang Yong reached out a hand and gave Yun Qiuce a heavy pat on the shoulder.
Yun Qiuce groaned, feeling as if his shoulder had been slapped by a bear, gritted his teeth and didn’t collapse, sitting up straight to show he wasn’t fragile.
"Haha, haha..." Little Skeleton kept pointing at the TV screen, babbling about something.
Yun Qiuce asked amusingly, "Do you like that brother so much, are you his fan?"
Little Skeleton froze, placing his finger on his chin, and seriously thought about what ’fan’ meant, then shook his skeleton head, struggling to spit out two words from his teeth:
"Little grandson!"
"Grandson? Qi, did he just say something? He said little grandson?"
Yun Qiuce excitedly leaned forward, seriously asking, "You said little grandson, you mean that person," pointing at the TV screen showing Bai Ying, "is your little grandson? Hahaha, you got it wrong, he’s in his twenties, by seniority, you should call him uncle, just like you should call me uncle too..."
"No," Zhang Yong put down his chopsticks, saying seriously, "My son died nearly a hundred years ago; by seniority, calling you little grandson isn’t wrong!"
Yun Qiuce: ...
Embarrassingly glanced at Yun Qi.
Yun Qi suddenly had a bright idea, "My dad is the Fengdu Ghost King, by seniority, people calling me little grandaunt isn’t wrong!"
Yun Qiuce’s mouth twitched again, oh, you’re both seniors, you’re so lofty!
"Little grandson... dead... dead!" Little Skeleton pointed at the TV screen, fussing.
