Chapter 527: She wanted to help

Chapter 527: She wanted to help

"You know, at this point, I am just going to assume you have fallen in love with me," Elliana whispered without opening her eyes to look at who had arrived in her room, making the witch sigh.

"How did you find out it was me? I even suppressed my energies and masked my scent," Leila said as she sat beside her on the stool.

"Well, your presence is just like you. Confused," Elliana whispered.

"What is that supposed to mean?" Leila asked, feeling offended.

"Your energies, no matter how much you suppress them, won’t retain my kind of suppression. They give vibes of a mixture of negative and positive turmoil. Just like your heart. You want to act like a bad person, but your heart stops you from doing things most of the time, and now you are dangling between what is even right or wrong anymore,"

Elliana opened her eyes gently before looking straight at the witch, who looked at her without masking her emotions.

Elliana was kind of right anyway. And though it surprised her how this girl was able to judge her character so quickly and accurately even when those witches couldn’t, Leila kept quiet.

Maybe those witches knew the truth too. Didn’t Azrael say she wasn’t a fool to trust her like Arizona did? And then why would Arizona show her that death absorber machine when she very well knew she could tell Azrael all about it?

"And now you are thinking what to choose. Who to believe and who to betray?" Elliana said.

"I... I feel lost," Leila surrendered and was about to say more when they felt a negative energy.

"And it’s funny you are lost near my daughter," the words resounded before Azura arrived, and as soon as she did, an electric strike immediately attacked Leila.

Leila didn’t have enough time to save herself, but to her surprise, the strike never hit her. She turned to look at Elliana, who was holding her hand, which clearly meant if something happened to her, it would affect Elliana too.

Azura’s powers couldn’t hurt their daughter.

"What are you doing, my baby? You want to protect this woman even after knowing what she did to you?" Azura asked Elliana with disbelief in her eyes.

"Please sit down, mom. She came to me because she felt lost. And it’s enough of a reason for me to keep my animosity aside and hear what she has to say," Elliana whispered, making Azura sigh.

Her daughter was starting to behave like a true queen even when she was away from her kingdom. Maybe that was what people say about royal blood showing its color no matter where the person is.

"I... I actually came to meet Azura. But by the time the vampires left, she had left too. I was hoping to meet you, but you left to meet your vampire team. That’s why I waited for you to return," Leila explained, and Elliana hummed, her expression turning ugly when she saw her mother placing another batch of herbs on the table.

Azura looked at her daughter’s expression and suppressed her smile before looking at Leila with a serious expression.

"You wanted to meet me? I assume it must be because you wanted to tell me something. What is it?" Azura asked.

Leila looked at the mother-daughter duo pair and contemplated how much she was supposed to tell them without them risking her sister’s and her life.

"I... I wanted to know what you have decided to do about your father," Leila started slowly, but seeing Elliana’s expression turning dark and full of warning, leaving all the warmth she had, Leila immediately realized she wasn’t supposed to say that and she gulped.

"About her father? What about him?" Azura asked, looking between Elliana and Leila, trying to understand what was going on.

Elliana took a deep breath. There was no point hiding the truth.

"On the day I revealed my identity to Mr. Marino, you guys had heard ’father’ from my mouth when I was asleep and asked about it, remember? I denied things at that time because I didn’t want Nathaniel or you to overreact. That day Leila had taken me to meet Dad. I saw him," Elliana paused, letting her mother digest the news.

Azura looked too shocked to react to the news and looked at her daughter.

"He is trapped somewhere? How is he? Is he doing alright? Wait. How would you be able to tell it when you saw him for the first time? Only I know him that much. Where is he? Leila, you can take me there too, right?" Azura looked at Leila with hope.

Leila looked at the hope in Azura’s eyes and pressed her lips into a thin line. There was no way she could risk taking Azura there.

Unlike Elliana who maintained her cool since she was seeing her father for the first time, Azura, who was madly in love with her husband won’t be able to do so, and the moment something out of order happens, Arizona will be informed of it which will make things difficult for her too.

Elliana observed the hesitancy in Leila’s eyes and sighed.

"You can’t go. I didn’t meet Dad. I saw him. He is captured in some kind of magical realism. As a witch queen, I am sure I don’t need to explain to you that your sister, who might be the person behind all this would shift him to a place even Leila wouldn’t know of if she sensed something wrong," Elliana said, her eyes softening when she saw the helplessness in her mother’s eyes.

She didn’t reveal the fact that she marked the place.

"He is... I can’t even imagine what kind of pain he must be going through. It’s all my fault. I never visited his grave because I was angry at him thinking he sacrificed himself for your life and even you were taken away from me. I feel like the biggest loser of all time," Azura’s eyes brimmed with tears.

"Don’t say that. You have been a victim of your sister’s conspiracy. While it’s true that things probably would’ve been different if you had found the truth sooner, blaming yourself isn’t going to take you anywhere," Elliana stood from her place and walked to her mom.

She held her hand in hers before smiling at her.

"I promise I will bring my father back, Mom. I don’t know how, or what I will do, but I assure you he will be back with us soon. I have seen the desperation in his eyes. Please trust me," Elliana said, forgetting Leila was still in the room.

"Are you sure you will be able to do it? I am not doubting your skills, but I think the witches know what you are up to. They -" Leila closed her eyes before taking a deep breath.

"Arizona has collected the souls of all the rogue vampires who died today. It’s a machine that Prince Nathaniel had created. I... It’s horrifying to even look at. The negativity of those souls... I don’t know whom she is planning to use that on," Leila said.

Azura, whose eyes were full of tears earlier, looked at Leila.

"Is that why you wanted to meet me? To warn me about what my sisters are doing?" Azura asked.

"Yeah... I mean, I wanted to take revenge on you, but I didn’t want your family to die like this and -"

"I am sorry," Azura walked ahead, holding Leila’s hand.

"One thing that I have learned from my daughter is that there is nothing wrong in expressing your emotions and apologizing when you feel like it. And I am really sorry for throwing you out of the Kingdom. I was doing it all because you had started to use black magic and your own clan’s people complained to me and said they wanted freedom from your clutches. As a queen, I had to do it. But I heard about the truth very late and until then, you have already started to act against me," Azura explained what happened all those years ago.

To say Leila was shocked would be an understatement.

It was true that she had started to use black magic, but it was to help her clan become stronger. For that kind of magic, they had to give up one sacrifice and at that time everyone had agreed to sacrifice the unborn baby of one of the clan ladies.

She was against it, but when one of the leaders said that the sacrifice of the born baby would cause the mother more pain, she agreed to the unborn baby’s sacrifice.

It was all for them. How could they say -

Everything started to make sense.

When she was thrown out of the Kingdom, no one supported her. At first, when she left out of anger, she thought that Azura kicked everyone from her clan, but she later discovered that only she left.

When she confronted them about it, they said that Azura let them stay under the condition that no black magic was to be used and that they would stop all communication with her.

Leila was filled with anger at that time. She thought that Azura was trying to single her out because she had spoken about a new system to choose their Royalty through power analysis rather than a hierarchy system.

After she was kicked out, the clan leader obviously changed.

But now everything made sense to her.

"Does that mean I was betrayed by my own clan?" Leila asked no one in particular, stumbling back in shock.

And here she was trying to fight against Azura so she could provide justice to her people?

"Well, isn’t this hospital room looking like a collection of miserable people who got betrayed by someone one way or another?" Elliana joked to lighten up the mood, even though she could see how much she was hurting.

"I... I want to be on your team. I don’t care how, but I am going to help you guys. Yes," Leila suddenly announced, catching Elliana and Azura off-guard.
