Chapter 523: A hug can solve everything

"Princess," Sebastian held Elliana’s hand to calm her, but the girl gently pulled her hand away from his grip before looking at Nathaniel, her emotions all over the place.

"Tell me, Nathaniel. How the hell am I crossing the line?" Elliana asked, standing from her place before she walked to him and grabbed his collar, pulling his face down, and looking straight into his eyes.

"Am I crossing a line since I don’t want to accept her as my mom because I haven’t once felt her sincerity through her actions or words? Or am I crossing the line because even after knowing she wanted to kill me, I repeat, my mom wanted to kill me, I was ready to forgive her if she had come to me and explained it all like a grown-up?" Elliana asked.

Nathaniel’s pupils dilated when he realized he probably misunderstood Elliana. He felt guilty all over. He opened to apologize, but Elliana shook her head at him.

Azura looked at her daughter at a loss for words. Her hands clenched by her side as she looked at Elliana. This wasn’t the first time she was voicing out those thoughts, but at that time she had thought that Elliana was just using that excuse to stay away from her.

Who would’ve thought she had been serious since the beginning?

Elliana turned around and looked at her mother before sniffing softly to control her emotions.

"I am sorry, my baby. I am terribly sorry that I couldn’t recognize you. The thought of killing you as my daughter never occurred to me. I didn’t know it was you, my daughter. I just wanted to bring back your father and had no idea my flesh and blood was alive, and I was planning to take her life. Please forgive your mother. I didn’t mean wrong. I was just a victim of conspiracies," Elliana said the words that she wanted to hear from her mother, her lower lip trembling as she clenched her hands.

Azura’s eyes softened as she looked at her daughter.

"Was it so hard to say those words to me?" Elliana asked before looking back at Nathaniel.

"I was crossing a line? Do you want me to see her efforts? Where was she with me when I was crying? You guys have been observing me through everything. Did she see my heartbreak when I was crying alone in the room because I was heartbroken thinking Mr. Marino chose some other girl over me? Heck, even an enemy witch made her presence known to mock me and show pity. What were you doing?" Elliana asked Azura, who looked down in shame.

Nathaniel looked at the agony and helplessness in Elliana’s eyes as she placed her fingers in her hair, clenching them.

"I know what you were doing. You were probably thinking and telling him that I should be able to bear the pain alone because that’s how things were supposed to be. That I need to be able to do that for my future," Elliana whispered, and Azura stood there shocked because that’s exactly what had happened.

Those were the exact words that she had told Nathaniel. She looked at her daughter ashamed.

"But I just wanted you to be strong -"

"To hell with this strength!" Elliana raised her voice, shitting Azura immediately.

"Do you think I want this strength? These powers mean anything to me? What I need is my mom’s lap where I can place my head and forget about all the worries in the world. A warm embrace that I yearned for my entire life. It might have been good for my strength, but what about my mental health?" Elliana asked.

"I just wanted love and care from you," A tear rolled down Elliana’s cheeks.

"I don’t want your protection or you to help me become strong. By now I know if it is in the moon goddess’s plans, no one can really kill me. And even if I have to die tomorrow, let me die a happy person who lived a life of love and care. Is it too much to ask?" Elliana asked, looking at her mother, whose lips whimpered.

Azura didn’t know her daughter yearned for her love as much as she did. She looked at her daughter breaking in front of her and fell on her knees, regretful of all the times she held herself back from hugging her daughter.

She placed her hands in front of her face as she cried. "I am sorry, love. I am so sorry," Azura whispered.

Nathaniel, whose eyes brimmed with tears, looked out of the window at the clouds that started to appear and sighed.

He looked at the mother-daughter pair that obviously yearned for each other’s love but had too much self-consciousness and doubts to step toward each other.

One wanted to protect her daughter from the shadows because she thought her daughter wouldn’t ever accept her, and the girl wanted her mother to show her motherly love and just hug her despite whatever was happening in the world.

He shook his head at them, turning around and looking at the clouds.

It wasn’t like he would be able to send these clouds away when they were the result of the sad emotions of two powerful dark witches.

Seeing his wife breaking in front of him like this, Sebastian took a deep breath before looking at her mother who was looking at her daughter with equal sadness.

He couldn’t help but feel pity for the dark witch for the first time.

He didn’t exactly know what transpired between them, but from what he knew how he had met her and how Azura kept on helping him, even going as far as risking her life for her daughter because she knew that her daughter’s happiness was with them, Sebastian could see that Azura really loves her daughter very much but struggles to show it.

"Do you know why I called you mom in the field? I called you that because, for the first time, I saw a motherly concern on your face when you asked me what happened to me. To me you were not the queen of the dark witch, at that time, you were a lady who claimed to be my mother and loved me," Elliana whispered, and Azura, who had been asking Elliana to call her mom earlier, immediately understood what her daughter wanted.

Elliana turned around, not wanting to show her ugly tears to anyone. She really tried her best to keep her emotions to herself, but when Nathaniel raised his voice at her earlier, something flipped inside her and she couldn’t control it anymore.

Azura looked at the back of her daughter and stood from her place.

Without warning, she rushed to her daughter and hugged her from behind.

Elliana, who felt the warmth on her back, felt her heart thumping.

"Stay away from me!" Elliana raised her voice, feeling ashamed, thinking that the witch was only hugging her because she said so.

"I won’t let go. Now that you have given me a green signal. I am not going to let go ever. I am your mom, and it’s the fatal truth that you will have to live with. Whether you hate me or like me, it doesn’t matter. I am going to stay your mom either way. And I effing love you. Doesn’t matter if you believe me. If you push me away one more time, I am going to slap you too," Azura tightened her hold on Elliana to the point that it was hard for the girl to even move.

Elliana’s eyes brimmed with a new wave of tears, and she started bawling her eyes out, this time harder than before.

Azura, who felt something was wrong, turned her around and looked at her, cupping her cheeks.

"Why are you crying now?" Azura looked at her daughter helplessly.

"Because you hugged me so tightly that I couldn’t breathe and I choked," Elliana rubbed her eyes.

"Do you not want me to hug you?" Azura asked helplessly.

"Hug me. I liked it," Elliana whispered, and Azura threw her hands once again.

"A bit lightly, mom," Elliana added when she felt the same steel-like grip, and Azura smiled.

Nathaniel - "..."

Sebastian smiled at his wife’s cuteness. She was just crying a couple of minutes ago.

And then she expects people to not fall in love with her?

Sebastian sighed before he walked to the duo, and without a warning, he pulled Elliana’s hand, making her stumble away from Azura and land in his embrace.

"She needs to rest. I need to rest," Sebastian whispered.

However, when the Mother witch didn’t move, he scratched his forehead slightly.

"I can only sleep properly when she is hugging me, and it’s a bit intimate. *Cough* *cough*" Sebastian’s ears turned slightly red, and Lucas, who had once seen his prince and princess sleeping almost hugging each other, rushed out of the room immediately to give them privacy.

Azura rolled her eyes, while Nathaniel just sighed.

"No funny business. She is still recuperating," Azura warned like a dutiful mother, and Elliana’s cheeks turned red.

Azura walked to her daughter before kissing her forehead.

"Now that you have allowed me, expect to see me more in the future," She whispered before she held Nathaniel’s hand, taking him away with herself.

As soon as Azura left, Elliana glared at Sebastian.

"Who forgave you? Who is sleeping with you? Get lost," Elliana huffed and got into the bed like an angry kitten before covering herself with the blanket from head to toe.

Sebastian chuckled at her antics before sighing when he saw an incoming call.
