Chapter 487: Love was like a knife to cut
"Princess," Vincenzo started but Elliana turned away.
"Prince Stephano, Prince Marcus, Prince Angelo, Princess Matilda?" Elliana asked everyone one by one, and Vincenzo’s heart, which had been beating fast thinking about what ruckus his brother might cause, relaxed slightly when he saw she was asking everyone.
"Hell yeah!" Prince Angelo immediately stepped forward and held her good hand before bending and kissing the back of it, making her smile.
"Well, who said I am going to miss the opportunity? Finally, there is someone in the family who respects us single souls too," Prince Stephano placed his phone on the table and walked to her before looking at her hand, a smirk forming on his face.
"Did you need to put the herbs and handkerchief when it wasn’t needed?" He asked, and Elliana’s smile flattered a bit.
"Hm?" She asked, hoping she heard him wrong.
"We won’t let anyone harm you either way," he said, and Elliana smiled.
"Well, what can I say, prevention is better than cure," She said, and the man hummed.
Elliana finally turned her body to one man that she had been avoiding looking at and smiled genuinely.
This might as well be her last dance with him. She needed to cherish these memories despite her heartbreak.
"Mr. Marino?" Elliana whispered, and Sebastian, who was deep in thought, snapped out before he stepped ahead.
Brooklyn held his hand to stop him, but it was as if nothing could stop him anymore when his wife called him, he jerked the girl’s hands away, walking to his wife with a determined look on his face.
"Princess," He said before looking into her eyes.
The emotions of betrayal were clear there. She didn’t hide it. She didn’t want to. It was important for him to know that he hurt her.
"I have no explanation for -"
"I don’t expect any explanation, either. You have made your choice. The deed is done," Elliana whispered before she took his hand in hers.
"No matter whether you choose me or not, I would always want to have my first dance with my husband only. After all, that’s what I vowed to myself. Besides, I don’t have a long life like you where keeping promises is tough. I am sure it’s hard to stay monogamous for a vampire with high sexual desire. But I Can keep my promises," Elliana’s words were like a hard slap on his face.
She not only disregarded everything he felt for her and made her exclusive, but even downgraded herself with that one statement that only meant he needed her for his sexual needs.
Sebastian wanted to pardon her, but was he really in any position to say anything after what he was going to do to her?
With a soft smile, she guided his hand on her waist before she started moving, her gaze not flickering away from his eyes and he gulped.
"Do you resent me?" He asked, knowing all too well what kind of reaction she would have when he told her about his plans.
"I can’t resent the person I care for. When I decided to love you, I gave you a knife and told you exactly where to cut and how to hurt me. That’s how love is. I was supposed to get hurt from the very beginning when I chose to let you rule my heart" Elliana whispered with a soft smile and tears in her eyes.
Her words finally registered in his mind. It didn’t feel like the dance anymore, but before he could ask her anything, Elliana turned around and left his hand, moving to Prince Angelo, who smiled at her.
"Be honest with me, don’t you feel like killing Brooklyn when she keeps stopping brother to come to you?" Prince Angelo asked, and Elliana chuckled at his words.
"And what about that? What if I say I did?" Elliana asked with amusement dancing in her eyes, grateful that he was her next partner, and immediately took her mind off the hard reality of her life.
"Then you just say a word. I am more than happy to finish this job for you," Prince Angelo pushed her out before pulling her with a jerk, making her stumble into his arms as she looked into his eyes.
"Woah, did you really think I was being serious? Look at your scared face," He chuckled, and Elliana smiled awkwardly.
She moved again, her hand landing in Prince Marcus’s hand, who rather than dancing with her like others, held her wounded hand with pity.
"Does it hurt a lot?" He asked, massaging the back of her hand.
Elliana looked into his eyes which were full of concern.
"The hurt in your eyes hurts me more," Elliana whispered without thinking twice.
Marcus froze in his place, followed by her who realized what she said.
"Are you... Did you just flirt with me, Princess?" Marcus looked at her amazed, and Elliana chuckled.
"Did it work?" She asked to cover her own awkwardness that Marcus quickly caught up on and smiled.
"Of course, how could it not when such a pretty lady is flirting with me?" He asked, and Elliana smiled before moving to Prince Stephano, who took her good hand in his gently and started moving baby steps as if afraid he would break her, and Elliana smiled at his thoughtfulness.
"You can retire to your room after this. It pains me to see what kind of pain you are making your foot go through. And I know it’s important, but you have done enough. I will ask a maid to bring the food to your room," Prince Stephano said and Elliana hummed.
"If I ask you a favor, will you help me with it?" Elliana asked, and Prince Stephano looked at her before humming.
"If I say I don’t want to stay here, will you allow me to sneak out without letting others know? I will be back by dawn, I promise," Elliana said.
Stephano pressed his lips into a thin line.
"You do know you are making this demand from one person who is very particular with rules?" He asked, and she nodded like a spoiled kid.
"And for some reason, I can see myself helping you. But promise me you will tell Sebastian about it. I don’t want to be at the receiving end of his wrath nor do I want any drama before the ceremony. Okay?" Stephano asked, and Elliana hummed.
She turned around and her hand landed back into Mr. Marino’s hand, who looked into her eyes.
"Does it hurt a lot? Let me heal it for you," he whispered, his gaze on her hand, and Elliana smiled before she moved closer to him.
As they danced, Elliana twirled around Sebastian before she came in front of him and rose on her toes.
She placed a soft kiss on the corner of his mouth, cupping his cheeks.
"I feel it everywhere. The hurt you are talking about, it’s etched in my heart. Will you be able to heal it? I was afraid of losing you the most after everything I felt for you, but it’s funny. Like the stars that were never mine and are in the sky for admiration, it was never supposed to be my place. I just want you to know that nothing scares me anymore. Just kiss me before you go," Elliana whispered, her eyes shining with unshed tears.
Sebastian didn’t waste a single second and grabbed the back of her neck before pulling her close.
He pressed his lips to hers, making everyone shy away from their gaze as he deepened the kiss, pulling her infinitely closer.
He didn’t know what he was afraid of losing either. But the way Elliana was putting things tonight didn’t feel good to his heart.
There was no way she already knew the truth. Then why was she acting like this?
He wanted to forget where he was and just kiss her until she forgot all her pain and only knew the happiness that he gave her.
Though passionate, the kiss didn’t last for long and Elliana pushed him away slightly.
"Stop, Mr. Marino. Everyone is watching," Elliana whispered loud enough for everyone to hear as she hid her face shyly.
Everyone smiled at her shyness, apart from one man.
The man who was kissing her. Sebastian.
She wasn’t just shy. She pushed him because she wanted to end the kiss short. And it hurt him that not once did she react like she always did when they kissed.
It was as if she was just kissing him... she... he didn’t know how to explain what he felt in that kiss.
The emotion of betrayal was back in her eyes and just like he had expected, Elliana rushed out of the hall in the name of being embarrassed and he sighed.
It would take a lot of effort for him to persuade her into what he was thinking, and he massaged his forehead.
"Brother, you need to control your horses. Look, she ran away because of you," Prince Santo patted Sebastian’s shoulder, making everyone chuckle while Brooklyn seethed in frustration.
Others might have not noticed, but she surely did.
The way Elliana’s gaze met with hers as if she was challenging her, she could see it. That human vixen planned it all. Brooklyn clenched her hands and walked out of the hall.
Elliana didn’t go back to her room, rather, she went to the forest.
As soon as she reached the entrance of the forest, she was met with Ambrose who was talking to some people, and a smile immediately appeared on her face.
She was yet to give them their gifts too.
"Mr Ambrose," She called out.
"Yes, princess," Ambrose walked to her.
"Will you do me a favor?" She asked, and Ambrose nodded without a doubt.
