Chapter 485: It hurt her
"It’s peaceful here," Elliana sat down as soon as Vincenzo placed her on the ground, more than half an hour away from the royal kingdom.
He grabbed her hand to pull out the glass shards that might’ve pierced her skin, but to his surprise, there was no glass in her hand, and it was healing quite fast.
"Did you forget I am a dark witch? My powers are now helping me more and that’s why my healing powers are equivalent to a vampire," Elliana whispered, and Vincenzo hummed before he grabbed the herbs and placed them on her hand before wrapping his handkerchief in her hand.
Elliana looked at him, confused, unsure what he was doing.
"But others don’t know that, do they? What will you explain to them? That I licked your wounds? So that they can beat me for being inappropriate with my sister-in-law?" Vincenzo smiled, and Elliana hummed, biting the inside of her cheeks to not cry.
Sister-in-law. She won’t be anyone’s anything starting tomorrow once reveals everything and breaks her relationship with Mr. Marino.
"Isn’t it ironic?" Elliana asked after a few minutes had passed, and Vincenzo looked at her, the tears in her eyes unnerving him slightly.
She had been like this for the past fifteen minutes. The tears would appear in her eyes but she would quickly blink them away as if forcing herself to not go weak.
"What?" Vincenzo asked.
"How men think they have the audacity to tell their women to not even look at other men while they daringly go around holding just anyone’s hand, dancing with them, and God knows what," Elliana smiled sadly as she played with a random stone.
"I am sure there is a reason behind Sebastian doing that. He isn’t the guy who would just hold anyone’s hand just like that, especially when we all have seen the love in his eyes for you," Vincenzo didn’t bother to go around circles and came straight to the point.
Elliana scoffed.
"You are right. He indeed has a reason for that. And the reason is, I am no longer relevant in his life. I am useless, incompatible, and -"
"That’s not true, Elliana. Stop overthinking things and hurting yourself with -"
"He is going to marry her tomorrow," Elliana’s words shocked Vincenzo, and he looked at her with wide-raised eyes.
He had expected anything but this.
"Elliana, your overthinking is playing tricks on -"
"I heard them talking about it in the backyard. They don’t know that I am a witch, and probably thought I wouldn’t be able to hear them. Brooklyn’s father will help Mr. Marino 100 votes in return for this marriage. It was all his plan to get the throne," Elliana cut him off again.
This time Vincenzo didn’t have anything to say, not because he doubted that his brother loved his wife or not, but because he didn’t doubt that his brother would go to any extent to get the throne.
He turned to the girl, who was lying on the grass with her eyes closed. With a sigh, he took off his coat and placed it on her upper body so she wouldn’t catch a cold.
"I was feeling guilty that I would break his heart by telling him I am a dark witch, but I guess he found a way to repay me even before that happened. Do you know what he said? He said my work was done," Elliana said, tears finally rolling down the corner of her eyes. Vincenzo extended his hand to wipe them but clenched his hand and retreated at the last moment.
He wanted her to cry. For the first time, he wanted her to cry, and scream until she felt better. He didn’t want her to control her emotions but let them out.
She placed her hand on her eyes, hiding her face under his coat as she cried. Curling herself in a cocoon, making a tear roll down Vincenzo’s eyes that he quickly wiped.
"It hurts," Elliana whispered through her teeth as she bit into the fabric of his coat to control her voice.
Her sobs turned to crying before they turned to wailing as she clenched her hand near her chest. It almost looked like she wanted to plunge her own hand into her heart and caress it until the pain in her heart subsided because it was aching so terribly.
"I thought his love was true. Why did he have to do this with me? I told him I would leave. The day he will ask me to leave, I will. The day he will say I am no longer needed, I will leave, but why did he have to humiliate me like this?" Elliana sat as she held Vincenzo’s hand with a shimmering glimmer of anxiousness and panic.
"Do I not look pretty anymore? Am I not worthy of love, Prince Vincenzo?" Elliana looked at Vincenzo with hope, breaking the man’s heart even more, and he pulled her in for a hug.
He wrapped his arm around her shoulders.
"I don’t want a hug! I want the answers, Prince Vincenzo. You are his brother! You should know! Why the hell does every person I try to love and trust betray me like this?! What is wrong with me?" Elliana asked as she pushed Vincenzo back with all the energy she could muster, making him stumble back.
"Elliana! Get a grip!" Vincenzo shouted when he saw her going into denial and blaming herself for everything.
"No... I can’t... I can’t... can’t get a grip. Something must be wrong with me for everyone to hate me so much. Is... Is my body nothing more than something anyone can use and throw? I... Am I...Am I just a toy? Only... " Elliana gasped loudly, feeling like her throat was clogged as she felt her mind going haywire.
Her mom, all the witches around her, her adoptive family, and the person she gave everything to, why did they only want to use her for their benefit?
Do they not feel pity towards her? Was she so unlikable? She... she was an abomination for real, wasn’t she? Elliana gulped before rubbing her hand, as she felt a weird creep, a kind of disgust she never felt before.
Vincenzo’s heart softened when he saw Elliana losing it, and he sighed before he crawled to her and held her hand, pulling her close.
"Leave me alone! Leave me alone!" Elliana shouted, flailing her hands.
She pounded her fists on Vincenzo’s back, making the man close his eyes.
"Leave me! Prince Vincenzo!"
It was painful. Every hit that landed on his back, his thighs were painful as hell, but he knew they were nothing in front of the pain the girl was feeling in her heart.
"I... I just want to jump from here and die, and this suffering for once and all," Elliana sniffed as she cried in Vincenzo’s arms, making him freeze in his place.
He knew Elliana was a strong girl, and she was only saying this because she was too sad at the moment. The pain in her eyes when Sebastian chose that girl over her was evident to the entire family.
But it didn’t mean he was letting her get away with it. What if she takes a wrong step in the manipulation of her own emotions?
"Please calm down, little Elliana. Please, I beg you. I know that you have been betrayed time after time by your close ones, but rather than focusing on the bad parts, why don’t you look at the good things?
Don’t you have people who are ready to die for you? Don’t you have friends who care for you? I... If you even consider me anything, you have me, your witch friend too. How can you even mention dying? Do we not matter to you?" Vincenzo whispered, hoping this technique would work, and Elliana finally stopped struggling in his arms.
